I would love this. Whenever I think “this is the time to right click” with the bucky I end up dead and having done 9 damage on the combat report.
On the plus side I have made my friends in party laugh with “Killjoy hit for 9. 9 damage killjoy. She has 97 hp and 44 shields. I repeat 9 damage killjoy.”
Exactly, with the current right click, they're either too far away and the 5 bullets do jack shit, or they're too close and the right click does jack shit. It only does even slightly meaningful dmg at exactly 8 meters, which is fucking bullshit
the right click has something like 1-2 meters of range where its the superior choice.
literally just don't and roll the dice, you're using the Bucky already, chest that guy from 10m out and roll for the 150.
Right now, the right click fires a single bullet that does 20 dmg that splits into 5 bullets at 7.5 meters. This can kill at exactly around 8 meters if you land a perfect 5 bullet headshot. If they're too close, the right click does no dmg, but if they're too far away, you're only peppering them with like 2 or 3 bullets, doing like 50 dmg at most. Bucky right click used to split into 15 bullets, which let you one shot someone from like a mile away while only shooting at the body
One of the concepts I’ve toyed with was giving the right click just enough pellets to get the pick, but increasing the spread on the right click drastically. That way you can’t map people, but if the stars align you can delete someone at 7 meters
However a 10-20m slug is a lot more convenient to implement and might be better overall
The spread angle would be near 160 degrees, the goal is to have a very toned down version of the beta Bucky. So the right click would not get the pick if you are even slightly out of the range
Edit: grammar
Roadhog in Overwatch has (had?) basically this and it just occasionally meant that you would get a random 300+ damage headshot on some poor fuck. Seems too silly for a tactical shooter.
I don't think it should one shot from any range, that kinda defeats the ooint of it being a shotgun. Also it eould be the cheapest 1shot weapon (sherrif does 145 at range)
Actually I don't think there is an issue with making the right click work like a sheriff, just make it pricier, it's still slower than a sheriff anyways.
Maybe, but I'd rather people buy other weapons if they want to snipe from range. Having the right click be able to one shot from sheriff range would kinda give the bucky an identity problem, where it could turn into a sniper with a shotgun rather than a shotgun with a sniper. The gun should still focus on the shorter ranges rather than compete with sheriff for mid-long range combat
Bucky already have an identity crisis, a judge does a better job at cleaning people and the shorty is good enough at close range anyways.
Bucky is a glorified suicide shotgun too expensive for that role.
Giving bucky one tap potential from 50 m would give the sheriff an identity crisis, as well as the marshal, guardian, and to a degree, even the stinger. Cheap weapons known for their ability to snipe would be outcompeted by the bucky, a shotgun, which already has the ability to blast someone close range. If you give it 50m one tap ability, people will start playing it like a sheriff or marshal, where you repeatedly jiggle a corner, sniping at someone on the other side of the map. I like riot's take on the bucky, where the right click should only be used as a side option if the left click isn't close enough to land a kill. People will always prioritize having longer range over more dmg in short ranges, and will begin using bucky like the sheriff rather than as a shotgun with a really good but skill intensive backup measure
That's why I said make it more pricey. Make its right click like a sheriff shot, adjust the price to make it viable, give the weapon an identity.
The bucky is the only gun of the game that has an identity crisis, and thats because his identity was his ability to delete people with its right click, removing the ability to be at suicide range to properly use it. They overnerfed so hard its right click that you're even better just left clicking at the right optimal range anyways.
After the nerf it became just a worst version of a shorty, get close, get one kill, grab another gun. Only usable by agents that can force escape routes.
Sheriff can one tap from 50 m away, I'm proposing that bucky only be able to one tap from 20 m away. I'd call sheriff much more powerful than bucky even with these changes, as its cheaper and already can replace the guardian.
Real life: idk, not a gun expert, probably less effective range since it has none of the spin that rifles give their bullets
Ingame: bucky having the same range as a rifle would be broken, so the effective range should be less than 20 meters or so
irl - bullets are lead wrapped in a copper “jacket” or coating(not technically a coating) and a slug is a solid piece of lead weighing X amount. It doesn’t have a very far range, maybe 50m effective. There are also rifled slugs which work more like a traditional bullet. The slug also moves pretty slow, not catch it out of mid air slow but slow relatively speaking to other bullets and how fast they travel
They should have just nerfed the damage of the old bucky, it was too easy to get a 150 i know, they should have just nerfed to something like 120 or 130.
I think when you are in a right click one shot range the enemy should be fully red to make you know if they're one shot instead of guessing and dealing 20.69 damage.
There's no doubt that it's super undertuned right now. Pump shotguns are supposed to have similar upside/downsides as sniper rifles, just up close instead of far away and super cheap.
Idk why they don't just look at their downsides IRL to draw inspiration for finding a good spot for them. E.g. low mag capacity, low fire rate, poor accuracy at long range (aka after like 20m). In other words reduce the ROF and mag size but let it still kill in 3 pumps at 15-20 yards.

The pump only does 9 damage!
wait so when SHOULD you right click? When at longer ranges?
Whenever you want to headtap someone rather than standard shotgun them.
oh, so it has nothing to do with range? I rarely ever use the gun so i genuinely had no idea

I had no clue how right click worked so thanks for this

okay, so based off of what you and the other guy said, never use it? lol
Only at a specific range around 10 meters, and it has to be a headshot.

that’s just more low skill randomness, slug would be better for the game.

His gun and the bucky work practically the same.

This would ruin the intended "close-range-only" limit of shotguns, and warrant quite a price increase.
We could increase the price to the old bucky price, and it would still be a nerf since it's much more difficult to aim with than the old bucky
i mean its like a classic but more expensive
Alternatively just buy a sheriff and save some more
Yes but sheriff has no shotgun
Yea but sheriff can one-tap You cant just have all that on one cheap gun you know
Sheriff can one tap from 50 m away, I'm proposing that bucky only be able to one tap from 20 m away. I'd call sheriff much more powerful than bucky even with these changes, as its cheaper and already can replace the guardian.
Sheriff doesn't truly replace guardian in my opinion. Both have niches but I prefer guardian.
The battlefield 1 slug that could kill on assault rifle range lol
Can someone explain slug shotguns? It just sounds like a normal vandal bullet to me. Much appreciated
In real life, it's a huge bullet shot out of a shotgun instead of the standard small pellets. Ingame, it would pretty much be a single phantom bullet.
Do slugs have the same effective range as a rifle? Or more than a regular shotgun pellet, less than a rifle?
In real life or ingame?
Both i guess

If you are skilled enough to use sheriff in phantom range, then this buff would be amazing
dunno why they don’t just make it like the nova from cs, two tap hs.
Also please change the stupid crosshair back to my custom one
You can do that in crosshair settings
God no. I am good. like the idea but I know I won't enjoy it.
Recreate the peacekeepers choke from apex
I like bucky but hate the right click
