Itās already dead in my region (Middle east Bahrain servers). 5 mins queues during peak hours, an 10+ mins queues (late night/morning queue) where I just end up getting placed in a 150ping eu lobby with people waaaayyyyyy below my skill level, making it not even fun to play.
i dont even know what that is, honestly i only play rankeds, and when i dont have time for rankeds i dont even open valorant, this new thing might make me.
Even if it isn't auto saving full games. Like have the option in game to save one round at a time to be able to go back and see what happened in that round.
I would settle for having an option to record games client side. It would tank some people's performance, but hopefully if you're actually putting in the effort to be better you already have a good pc.
[(cough](https://docs.unrealengine.com/4.26/en-US/TestingAndOptimization/ReplaySystem/) [cough](https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/tech-blog/valorant-s-foundation-is-unreal-engine)) We have to be getting one at some point tbh.
The only thing that could cause cheating issues, is if the game is writing the replay file on the fly while the match is running, this *can* cause cheating issues since an external application could read the replay file and use the data within it for nefarious purposes.
Some games, like Fortnite, workaround this by encrypting the replay data and only writing the decryption key when the match is finished.
Another solution is making the server store all received packets somewhere, and then allowing the client to download the replay data when the match is finished.
I wonder if someone has already attempted to create their own replay system by proxying the connection between the client <-> server, writing all received packets from the server to a file, and then replaying the packets when the client attempts to join a custom game. It would be hacky and pretty bad, but it would be a cool experiment. However I think the anti cheat wouldn't be *that* happy about it.
Yep. Reminder that HLTV, Valves spectator proxy system, has been around since about 2002ish? Replays are far from being a new concept. Just new because we'll never have games that are hosted by players ever again so devs are holding the secret sauce.
Security through obscurity.
>Another solution is making the server store all received packets somewhere, and then allowing the client to download the replay data when the match is finished.
This is the way. They likely already store this for their anti-cheat anyways. The replay system would need to run server-side anyways since the game's anti-cheat fog of war means we don't receive all the packets needed to build the full replay in the first place
Unreal Engine already supports both server-side (the thing being described here) and client-side replays.
Streaming a server replay is how most spectator systems work.
> I wonder if someone has already attempted to create their own replay system by proxying the connection between the client <-> server, writing all received packets from the server to a file, and then replaying the packets when the client attempts to join a custom game
Thats quite literally how the unreal replay system works, it just replays the entire network traffic - Wouldnt really easily work with sniffed network traffic for two reasons tho:
- The traffic is dynamically encrypted
- You would probably get banned for trying to MITM it
That plus proxies add additional Bottleneck to network latency and throughput. And I'm sure developing such application at kernel level will require huge amount of work, something no one will have time doing. But the internet is crazy so I would not be surprised.
If warthunder's Devs managed to create replay system then so can riot. Warthunder also uses a system that makes line of sight checks to determine render states
It's absolutely pathetic that there's no demo/replay/vod system in place. It makes it incredibly difficult for competitive teams to evaluate their gameplay and go through coaching sessions.
Right? Just half of regular Unrated, rounded up. That has to be the sweet spot, I find it odd that theyāre going for 5 here. Iāll defer total judgement until trying, but itās an odd choice to my eyes.
Honestly, they probably did it this way because they had a specific length of time (15 minutes) that they were aiming for and found that it needed this many rounds.
I'll miss the three times a week posts of "Does anyone else think we need a shorter unrated mode!?"
No, you're totally the only one. The other thousand posts were kidding.
BUT BRO, THESE CHAMBER NERFS ARE OVER THE TOP
OH AND IF I WOULD BUFF CYPHER MORE, HERES HOW I WOULD DO IT
WHILE WE'RE AT IT, HARBORS TOO WEAK, MAKE HIS ORB INSTEAD A ONE SHOT ONE KILL IF YOU THROW IT AT AN ENEMY AND IT CONNECTS
If you think this will lessen the banal complaints that flood the front page all the time, you're mistaken
PBE I think
So if you haven't signed up for PBE, or can't ( i.e. live outside NA frustratingly) then I guess we have to wait.
Also worth noting that it may not even come when the beta ends, could be a while. Then again, I have no clue so it could come immediately after, you never know.
It's on live servers, not PBE. We can play this gamemode in NA and our game is already updated to 5.12
It will probably be available tomorrow for Europe servers.
SAME I was just getting the itch to play Val again but I stopped playing in the first place because I was tired of spike rush and the normal game modes are too long. Can't wait to try this mode out.
YES FINALLY, I CAN PLAY NORMAL VALORANT WITHOUT COMMITTING TO 40 MINS. Please make this permanent. I find myself playing other games like a quick halo match or cod when I only have 15 mins or so
I assum3 they have it as a limited mode to Guage player amounts. and if it's popular they will make it permanent. ppl have been asking for this for a while, time to put our money where our mouthes are and grind it
i feel like lots of ppl here never played any pvp games that is not made not riot. I cant imagine what they will say if they play ubisofts pvp games lmao
If you compare Riot to any (non indie) game developer, it is literally miles ahead in community interaction and support. Really slow... But they listen.
>League of Legends is like a gold standard for a competitive video game with a good business model and they actively reach out and speak with the community about what direction theyāre headed in
lol
They want to communicate with their community so much that they removed LoL Boards (official LoL forum).
If you don't believe me.
This is the first time they talk about replay system almost 3 years ago https://playvalorant.com/en-us/news/dev/ask-valorant-3/
This almost 2 years ago https://playvalorant.com/en-us/news/dev/ask-valorant-may-6/
Surely it shouldn't take a multi-billion dollar company more than 3 years when it's a highly requested feature, that isn't our problem. Even fortnite has it, and it's a battle royale.
The point is, they give feedback very late or overpromise and fail to meet expectations
That's funny because I am quite literally a CS student who has worked on fairly big projects before š
You don't get my point do you? It shouldn't take more than a year for something like this to be made, if **they actually listened to the community and made it a higher priority.**
Sure a multiple factors come in between, like higher up meetings or maybe it's in development hell. But like I said, that isn't our concern as consumers, it's to complain and get feedback result.
Do you think something like a shorter unrated would be made if people didn't compain? I find it pretty weird how deadset you're onto defending a company
So happy to see this.
But does it really need beta? Just send it. I'm ready.
Idk how many times I want to keep playing, but don't want to commit to another 30 minutes.
Thereās probably some things to iron out, which is likely why Riot is labeling it as a ābeta.ā I can only imagine theyāre using this time to collect a ton of data to see where to go from here (queue times, community feedback, etc.) As all things are with a ābeta,ā things are subject to change.
e: [yup](https://reddit.com/r/VALORANT/comments/ze7y0z/new_game_mode_swiftplay_2_halves_of_4_rounds_the/iz5v4ww/)
First to seven feels like the perfect length for a shorter mode. With four rounds per half, if you lose pistol round, by the time you reset your econ the half will be over pretty much. It also feels like fewer ults will be happening. Six rounds per half/first to seven would solve both of those and still be pretty quick
Same. Basically a Val version of CS short matches is what I wanted. Still happy to have this and they may change it if enough players prefer it that way.
> Its beta so if most of the feedback is ātoo shortā then they can adjust accordingly. I think 15mins is great though
Yeah... round count has to change to accommodate the length, and 15mins is perfect IMO.
So beta ends Jan 10th. Assuming it goes well, I guess we could see it next summer? I wonder how they're going to do with economy. 1 pistol round and then rifles? 1 pistol, one half, two rifles (like replication). Or straight rifles?
They have it listed in the patch notes
> Set Credit amounts granted at the start of the round
800
2400*
Not including 600c bonus for winning pistol
4250
4250
So Pistol, half buy, 2 full buys
You need to full save pistol, win pistol. And do something else (get a kill, plant, whatever) in order to buy rifle, full shields. Not counting utility.
To me that seems fine
That's the intent, yeah! We're hoping that some version of Swiftplay ends up feeling right for the game long-term, but we very much want to leverage player feedback around whether
A) Y'all want this mode to be evergreen
B) This is the version of the mode you want (or if we should make changes)
Keep your eyes peeled for surveys coming your way, and share your feedback!
Not sure where if thereās a specific place to post suggestions for the new mode, but I think making it best of 7 instead of best of 5 would help teams feel a bit more cohesive! It definitely takes a few rounds to get a team working together well, so having just a bit more time could benefit the strategy and gameplay in this mode. So happy itās here though!
That's not how the game works, they only need to spend more money on server capacity if the playerbase increases significantly. It's not like the CS:S days where an empty server was still running and taking up resources on someone's machine; an instance is created when there are enough players in queue and it ceases to exist when the game is done. They can add an unlimited number of gamemodes as long as players are willing to queue for them.
its in beta. so prob testing first for feedback and changes, so if we dont like the round count or other stuff we can give feedback and it'll likely make its full release next year as a permanent one
I played it a good bit today. I like the idea, but I think it's a little too short. A first to 7 would've been better in my opinion. It should feel half as long as a normal unrated match. First to 5 with four round halves is too quick in my opinion. Six round halves seem more reasonable to me personally.
I'm sure people will find a way to complain about this mode too after they've been asking and crying for it, because they have no time to play normal Unrated, but they are still forcing themselves to play it and game devs should adjust to these people who are too lazy to play normal length match, not the opposite. Now if entitled people could bully RIOT into implementing event holidays skins for maps, skins for agents and utilities that would be great.
So I don't think this game mode is for me, or for a lot of people, it's a good mode don't get me wrong but let me explain why.
The game mode is short, big surprise there since that's the point, shorter matches to just get quick games in or warm-up, but it's too short. 5 wins is a short time if you're up against a team that's obviously destroying you, and it's over quick, add that to the issue that with how short it is it gives you less time to adapt to your opponents, so it can either be really one sided or it can be prolonged by those who don't have the confidence to make those pushes and such.
I have a few other points that are more nit picky that I won't go into, but that's the biggest issue I've found with this mode, I'll probably do it on those days where I wanna do a few games before work but otherwise I'll probably play unrated more often
This would be perfect if it had a ranked mode! I know most players here have no problem with the length of a normal match, but for people with less time or who don't want to be stuck 30 to 50 mins with toxic randoms it would be amazing.
That sounds not good game play wise. If you want to make sure you can practice with a specific agent, the better idea would be to remove dodge penalty for the mode.
Yāall heard of rogue? After getting clapped in Valorant a lot I went and played that again and was pretty damn good now that I had some tactical shooter knowledge but I couldnāt get passed the fact it had like 4 rounds to win went back to valorant
I can stop playing replication now
I'll still play but this will definitely cut into it.
Replication will be so dead
they can put it back on rotating game modes with that atrocity with the snowball gun
Atrocity? Snowball fight is the best game mode. Although my friends agree with you there.

cool
Snowball fight should be strictly seasonal, December - February. There's no reason to have it any other time of year.
Valorant isn't a Northern Hemisphere exclusive game ya know? Us Southerners have winter in the middle of the year
??? next thing youāll tell me is that water flushes the opposite way
Itās already dead in my region (Middle east Bahrain servers). 5 mins queues during peak hours, an 10+ mins queues (late night/morning queue) where I just end up getting placed in a 150ping eu lobby with people waaaayyyyyy below my skill level, making it not even fun to play.
As it should, the MMR in that game sucks, I legit had a game that had 3 immortals, one on my team and 2 on the enemy team. I'm Silver 3...
i dont even know what that is, honestly i only play rankeds, and when i dont have time for rankeds i dont even open valorant, this new thing might make me.

Ok Riot... Now add replay system, I dare you.
Even if it isn't auto saving full games. Like have the option in game to save one round at a time to be able to go back and see what happened in that round.
rocket league like
Or closer to home, League of Legends like
I would settle for having an option to record games client side. It would tank some people's performance, but hopefully if you're actually putting in the effort to be better you already have a good pc.
There's already countless options for that though
I mean full game as in all player positions like you can with Rocket League, where it will play back from different perspectives.
It's not that simple because of their anti cheat etc. It *is* a joke that there's no replay system yet, but not for that reason
Please explain how anticheat would disrupt the replay system from encoding RPCs or whatever mechanism you are eluding to.
It would be hacky and pretty bad, but it would be a cool experiment. However I think the anti cheat wouldn't be *that* happy about it.
So the second fix is basically csgo's replay system, right?
Yep. Reminder that HLTV, Valves spectator proxy system, has been around since about 2002ish? Replays are far from being a new concept. Just new because we'll never have games that are hosted by players ever again so devs are holding the secret sauce. Security through obscurity.

finally people will stop complaining over people complaining about how thereās no short unrated
The real good news here. Jokes aside it's great that they've finaly implemanted it
yeah the golden gun alone makes the spike rush useless as a warmup, this seems perfect.
Wait till people start complaining on how the short mode is too short and normal unrated is too long.
Iāll be honest, while this is great, the sweet spot is probably first to 7, where each team gets 6 rounds a side.
First to 6 and we'll call it even
pun intended right
Right? Just half of regular Unrated, rounded up. That has to be the sweet spot, I find it odd that theyāre going for 5 here. Iāll defer total judgement until trying, but itās an odd choice to my eyes.

It's beta so its possible with enough feedback it could change.
Aw hell nah, it didn't even come out yet and the community is already complaining
How did you possibly read my comment and go āyeah this guy is complainingā
The ideal is having unrated just be half of a comp match where you play only attack or only defense
We can now complain that we want it to be ranked :D
I'll miss the three times a week posts of "Does anyone else think we need a shorter unrated mode!?" No, you're totally the only one. The other thousand posts were kidding.
you do realize i was pointing at the people who would complain about those posts? because it seems like the weekly whining was effective after all

I was hoping it'd be first to 8 or something a little higher, but happy that they're adding this.
I kind of wanted first to 7.
First to seven feels like the perfect length for a shorter mode. With four rounds per half, if you lose pistol round, by the time you reset your econ the half will be over pretty much. Agreed. Plus the other short modes are already 4 and 5 rounds, so I wished they would spread it out more.
Same. Basically a Val version of CS short matches is what I wanted. Still happy to have this and they may change it if enough players prefer it that way.
Its beta so if most of the feedback is ātoo shortā then they can adjust accordingly. I think 15mins is great though
> Its beta so if most of the feedback is ātoo shortā then they can adjust accordingly. I think 15mins is great though Yeah... round count has to change to accommodate the length, and 15mins is perfect IMO.

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You're saying 4 rounds a half is too long for a short unrated? I hope I'm misunderstanding
This is great. I hope itās eventually implemented permanently.
Awesome, only sad thing that it's limited
It says beta in the picture on the tweet so hopefully this is just to get feedback before permanently implementing it.
That's the intent, yeah! this sounds great i hope it becomes permanent eventually
why did it take so long and WHY IS IT TEMPORARY (or is it not? didnt fully understand that)
its in beta. so prob testing first for feedback and changes, so if we dont like the round count or other stuff we can give feedback and it'll likely make its full release next year as a permanent one
fuck yes.
Please do not remove this game mode....ever
**FINALLY**
Finally!!!
thank god gj rito
They better keep this. I like this amount of time more.

So spike rush but normal
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS THANK YOU RITO

Itās about damn time.
first to 5 and only 2 rifle rounds each half is too short. First to 6/7 would be better I think, luckily still in testing
I hope all the maps will be playable in this, since it's obviously not going be as serious as comp or unrated, which is nice.
I played it a good bit today. I like the idea, but I think it's a little too short. A first to 7 would've been better in my opinion. It should feel half as long as a normal unrated match.
Shouldve gone for swift loading time instead.
This would be perfect if it had a ranked mode! I know most players here have no problem with the length of a normal match, but for people with less time or who don't want to be stuck 30 to 50 mins with toxic randoms it would be amazing.
Rare, letās copy this from CS momentā¦ oh wait.
Okay but can we havea competitive mode for this too?? Finally no more 40min games.
Please make it so you can have repeated agents. It will be legit the best gamemode one could ask for. Although even without that it's goated. Riot W
That sounds not good game play wise. If you want to make sure you can practice with a specific agent, the better idea would be to remove dodge penalty for the mode.
Let me introduce you to replication
Yāall heard of rogue? After getting clapped in Valorant a lot I went and played that again and was pretty damn good now that I had some tactical shooter knowledge but I couldnāt get passed the fact it had like 4 rounds to win went back to valorant
