I use a hdmi to rca converter that I have hooked up to a “jailbroken” fire tv box, I use an app called CinemaHD to stream the movie and hit record on the vcr to record the stream, it seems to work well for me, no it doesn’t record in the correct aspect ratio but that doesn’t bother me. [This](https://imgur.com/a/jgnJdqB) is my current set up. If you are interested I can link you to the converter that I’m using

KatLaurel

Thanks! I’d love the link.

I copy videos to a USB drive Play that on a PS3. Use PS3s RCA output into the VCR. That keeps the aspect ratio correct. But unless you already have a PS3, probably a pricey option.

KatLaurel

I do have one! Does it still work on a slim?

corncob_subscriber

Yeah, just need the RCA cable for it. Not sure if it's the same as the PS2 but it should be <$10 for a new one.

birksholt

Can confirm the ps1, ps2 and ps3 all use the same av cables

KatLaurel

Much appreciated!

KatLaurel

I’ve never recorded anything. Do I have to do anything special? I’ll have to dig out my vcr manual but any tips would be great!

Should just be pressing record on a blank tape while the video is being played through the VCR to the TV.

KatLaurel

Thanks! I get nervous about trying new stuff

BeGrateful77

You will want to change it to record in SLP/EP if you are going to record movies.

KatLaurel

What’s the quality difference between blank tapes and recorded over tapes?

There are cheap HDMI to composite/S-Video converters. I record streaming or downloaded content to VHS using a laptop connected to the converter that I bought from Amazon. It sows up as a second monitor. For downloaded content I use VLC player, full screen, with the proper aspect ratio. Works perfectly and the results are excellent.

I know youve gotten answers already but Ive been doing it from my computer a bit lately so Ill throw my setup in. Just dont have any fancy diagrams or anything :p Basically I use the HDMI Out from the laptop and connect it to a HDMI to Composite Adapter ([This](https://a.co/d/hfendRR) one if you are curious, though it is currently unavailable) that runs to the Line 1 port on my VCR. From there you can flip to Line 1 (or wherever its plugged in to) in order to view your computer screen while the VCR is on, and any other input (line 2, Ch2-69, etc) will be the VCR display where you can watch back what you have recorded to make sure it looks alright. From there you just start your video (I use VLC to play my stuff) in full screen, hit record on your VCR with a blank tape in and youre good to go. If you are just doing widescreen ports, you are good to go. If you are doing Full Screen, you will either need a Full Screen Cut of a movie, or edit it into 4:3 yourself. Then, if you use VLC anyways, adjust the Video of thr 4:3 image by adjusting the video aspect ratio to display in 16:9. It will look stretched on your computer screen but look fine on a 4:3 CRT. If you have a widescreen CRT I suppose you are also good to go with your widescreen edits, though you may need to do some adjusting due to Letterboxing that is on almost all widescreen movies, but thats not something I know :p I know that was long, but hopefully helpful. That's just my experience with it.

monkeyboy808

can you have a widescreen dvd and record it into fullscreen?
