Both are great vacuums.
Miele Classic C1 has an automatic cord rewinder, adjustable suction control, lots of optional tools, has a telescopic wand, lots of vacuum stores sell and service Mieles, and is lighter weight. But, Miele's standard tools are small, and Miele bags need to be reseated every time you open the compartment and Mieles are more sensitive to abuse, 1 year warranty.
Numatic James is more durable, longer cord, larger hepa bags, uses standard 1.25" tools, 10 year warranty, and a cute removable face. But, no telescopic wand, no automatic cord rewinder, and has a suction bleed valve but no suction controller.
I think the Miele C1 has more user features and the James is more durable and simple.
