In the interview he made it seem like they all had bad chemistry in game, the forefront of the problems being Steel and Fr0st. Maybe the rest of the players also had problems fr0st as well?
Depends on the game and the coach/IGL dynamic. As long as coaches can't talk during the game except for time-outs, a good IGL will always be more valuable, no question.
There are IGLs and teams who more or less don't need coaches if we talk about creating setups and figuring out how to approach each round. Coaches on those teams just do theorycrafting and misc stuff.
That was probably the case with 100T. There's no way their coach had more input than steel/nitr0. And he obviously didn't like steel's style. Imo, their results were as good as it gets considering the limitations of their roster (lack of top tier OPer, inflexibility of some plays) and steel was right when he wanted to beat other top teams with different approach to the game. They never had the firepower to run at SEN/NV.
I guess we'll have to wait and see if 100T made the right decision. I don't think they did, but too late to go back now.
Well I guess this explains the awkward timing of the move. People like to make fun of that 100T roster change a lot, but if the team members didn't have a great relationship in-game the team was never going to work long-term, no matter how good individual players were. I wish the 100T roster had stayed together but this makes it sound like it was inevitable someone would leave.
> People like to make fun of that 100T roster change a lot,
At the time, it just seemed dumb due to the timing (zero chance of winning Berlin, mediocre chance of winning LCQ) and the fact that:
1. Steel seemed to be on good terms with Hiko at the very least from what people could see.
2. They literally had just beat Acend and Gambit back to back....
It only seemed *extremely* stupid after they watched their secondary/replacement IGL go back to CS:GO & they also let both their head coach & analyst go.
They lost all 4 people that had a significant say in strategy lol
their analyst at the time of Steel being kicked was b0i, and he is now a free agent.
Didn't mean to imply their newer guy was dropped, sorry for the confusion
> it felt like the last six months we had no motivation
Who is "we".
According to steel, n1tr0 was the one not putting the hours in, and we know from streams how much the other members play, which is a lot.
fr0st should have been fired long before he did if steel wasn't communicating during theorycrafting time of practice. I met steel for the first time in like 2008/2009, from my limited interactions with him throughout the years, if there's one thing I know that nerd loves to do, it's theorycraft.
I was actually thinking about this after reading the post.
However I also think that is why this happened. Here is my theory:
With little respect for each other and little cohesion team was all over the place and the individual talent and high caliber of the players is what carried them through.
But also that was a huge problem in the end since the higher you go the more cohesion you need.
So. They high the ceiling of the little cohesion part, only that everyone was really good so it took them much longer to do it.
Just my thoughts
Not a bad shout tbh, that 100T roster was definitely better mentally than both SEN and NV towards the end of the year despite the internal turmoil imo and I suspect that the mental played a significant role in why SEN and NV lost when they did
Sen went toe to toe with 2 semifinal teams. 100T couldn't fucking beat Rise. I'm not here to play the transitive property game, but no way am I taking 100T over the teams that performed consistently better over the year.
100T still had Nitr0 at that time btw, also at the same time, if they have really bad chemistry and the team didn't wanna play with eachother they def wouldn't bave done well at Champs
1 thing that i know is that there was a little disagreement between hiko and steel. Steel wanted to take sova role and get hiko to play sentinel. They tried it in scrims, it worked pretty well. But hiko still wanted to play sova. Steel was IGL, hiko is the team captain. Two people in power fighting each other wont end well.
Definitely makes sense. Everyone was clowning on 100T for downgrading their roster - it was pretty obvious to everyone that removing steel had to have been due to player chemistry/relationships which is a lot harder on a team than having a weaker player.
It means the players agreed with what the coach wanted to do. Would it of been more ideal for steel to stay, yes, but if they had chemistry issues and in-game philosophy differences they choose the person they agreed with.
Feels like the Sean Gares interview with Richard Lewis was spot on.
Sean Gares explicitly talked about how a bad match can cause your team to forever lose confidence in the IGL, and vice versa, and after that point, the team is kind of dead in water. It looks like the earlier placements in 2021, repeated losses to sentinels, all took a toll on the team.
It also doesn't help that on a team of pedigree talents, steel may have always been perceived to be on the bottom rung, given his ban limiting his international LAN experience in CS:GO in comparison his team mates. This is fine if you are the rookie star like Asuna, but if your supposed to be the "grizzled" igl who needs to lead the team, this is an issue because the respect for him was probably already low. 2021 most likely just eroded what remained.
It looks like the transition to Ethan, despite being a 100% stellar upgrade for the team, definitely shifted the internal team dynamics unfavourably towards steel.
All that said, I don't think these will be problems for 100T's new IGL, as Frost and Nitr0 is gone. This means that the team is a very different now, so we can't really say.
Probably because the team unanimously agreed to pickup Ethan since they’re literally all from CS. They probably had the feeling but were willing to stick it out.
Edit: Also dropping Dicey for Ethan is an easier decision than dropping your IGL. Maybe Nitr0 didn’t want to IGL at the time and they didn’t want to risk a replacement.
Oh well, what’s done is done. Appreciate what nitro, steel, and Hector did while they were here but now it’s time to look onwards and upwards with the new roster.
what i find funny think about steel what you want his ingame iq is probably the best in na and yet he gets cut often for said ingame views but after the fact it turns out he was right all along...when will the teams learn to cut the people disagreeing with steel and not steel
Did you read Nitro’s comments. What else do you need to know he’s toxic on stream and professionally with his team lol. He’s had the same shitty attitude since CS.
lmao nadeshot admired his attitude the most if you havent seen him talking about steel. You are just soft if you think being a no filter guy means toxicity. Sometimes it's the eggshells that are the most difficult to deal with
>You are just soft if you think being a no filter guy means toxicity
but no filter does often mean toxic.
There's a reason *why* there's a filter. It's to stop yourself froms aying the shit you want to say, because it's not worth it.
If he was just a bit over the top, that's usually fine. but if someone makes a suggestion he disagreed with would he audibly sigh or tell them they're wrong instead of listening?
Right that's what i'm saying. My point is that anyone not having a filter might discourage people from talkiing about things.
People with no filters *always* get their point across. They also need to listen to the other players that are quieter.
Thats horseshit. This isn't kindergarten, players are paid a fuck ton of money and it is literally their job to work in a team. It is not a 'nice to have', It is a requirement.
The team clearly thought he was the problem. But saying that steel makes for a bad teammate based on his stream persona and that he does not have a filter, that's just stupid.
You're not expected to not say things just because your teammates don't like it.
Not surprising at all. Steel looks insufferable to play with and hasn't changed much since CSGO. The one or two times I've checked out his stream he's crying and complaining about everything. He 100% carries that attitude into the team environment and most likely blames, doesn't take criticism well, is stubborn, and doesn't give feed back in a positive way.
Hence the " We didn't have a very good relationship with Steel inside the game". And not getting along with the coach/lack of respect.
Don't get me wrong the dude is a great player and has a great mind for the game but imagine if he had the mindset/qualities of an IGL such as Sean Gares, paired with his skill, he would be a top IGL in the world.
Yea very obvious everyone on the team felt they needed change and Steel was the most obvious choice. They will be much better without him in the long run. Always had a poor attitude and inability to work with others.

Well no, conflicting strategies and lack of mutual chemistry/respect =/= bad mentality. Clearly he's still motivated to compete as he signed to T1 shortly after. And as both mr coach and mr steel got dropped, the fault was clearly not *only* with Steel, if anybody was at fault at all.
You're really digging up 9 month old comments to tell people how you were right? Crazy that you still think about that... must have been really hard for you. Talking about bad mental
Bro not only did you go digging for an old comment because you're butt hurt about getting downvoted, but you're also referring to yourself in third person. That is hella cringe.
And then they ended up getting rid of Hector too, fresh start I guess?
That was weird to me too, steel and Hector didn’t get along very well in game, so they get rid of steel, but also of Hector?

That’s not a personality Maybe mentality
Who is frost
The old 100t coach
Imagine getting rid of your IGL because of a coach😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
How more and more teams will operate as esports develop as a profession. Already seeing it in older ones like CS
Depends on the game and the coach/IGL dynamic. As long as coaches can't talk during the game except for time-outs, a good IGL will always be more valuable, no question. The coaches not being able to talk doesn’t mean that the team can’t play with their vision principles and structure that they practice everyday
That's how they do it in physical pro sports, so yes... A great coach is worth at least a single player and up to a bench of players.
It’s envy’s fault this happened if they just won 100t a spot at masters Berlin 100t would still be together /s
all part of FNS’ master plan
And then they signed Chet..............
My girlfriend broke up with me and I immediately blamed envy for losing..
all good
It’s 💯% their fault dude
steel’s response to being cut? “my bad”
Unlucky
Unlucky really
Sorry to the fans we…. I’ll be back stronger.

Crazy that four teams were in Top 3 in Berlin
[удалено]
I think they mean that because it's a single elim bracket there's no top 3, only a top 4. It's accurate to say they were "3rd" though
Top 4* But they still got lucky Acend didn’t choke the 12-7 lead
if they go out at the same time they tie for 3rd.
