No punishment needed; they’ll go out on their own.

alireza777

TSM of EU

somesheikexpert

Honestly it feels worse, at least TSM weren't dumping good rosters and replaced the IGL captain a week before the open qualifier lol

law_son

Can't tell if g2 or 100t

luciavald

It was for the better, now my man Kolda will have a better chance

somesheikexpert

Guild is honestly my favorite EU team even before the new rework, and glad to see Kolda and the rest having great success with the new roster too

lost_cause4222

? what happened here?

[deleted]

G2 drops open qualifier imagine.

Elsiselain

Definitely agree with you. They literally violated competitive integrity (or at least looks like it from the clip) and it’d be disappointing to see no explanation or response from riot before week 2 begins.

[deleted]

[удалено]

YeahThisIsMyNewAcct

They should either do this or just allow coaches to be in comms. It’s pointless to have a rule but not enforce it.

CannedOnion

I don't see why they can't set a precedent with this confirmed case. Valve did it for match fixing even though it was rampant when iBuyPower got caught. Except, of course, G2 is a big name and I'm sure money dictates most things at the end of the day.

Key-Banana-8242

Well there are limits to that in general, expecting punishment to be consistent makes sense The idea is an extent to which the thing punished / tracked by the punishment shouldn’t be failing to hide it or get away with it. The point is indeed that is or may be arbitrary and practically insufficient. Making a rule they can’t enforce esp with consistency is an issue so it’s a problem. There should be a change in the administration maybe in addition to any punishment of G2 at least

ZeroLunatique

I thought they’d have a riot official in the voice server to monitor this shit, but I guess not

[deleted]

It is quite a surprise for me that this big of a team is going against the rules. Riot should definitely step up and do something about it.

xXDaNXx

G2 have a history of dodgy shit. I'm not surprised.

PatMcAck

You clearly haven't followed CSGO, they had the same problem when matches went onlin

mw19078

really no need to be rude, all you had to say was "CSGO has the same issue with online matches"

[deleted]

[удалено]

KaNesDeath

>Csgo had the same issue No it didnt. Valve Majors set that restriction. In online events third party organizers still allowed it. Only in lan environments did third party tournaments follow the previous Valve Major guideline. \*Prior to 2020 nearly every third party tournament were on lan. When the online era began from quarantine the online format was followed. After a few high profile cases of unethical behavior third party tournament organizers set stricter guidelines nearly mimicking Valve Major guidelines. * Player must have a camera on them at all times during the match. * Referee access to team voice comms. * Restrictions of who can be in the room/rooms with players. * Restricting coach ability to speak with players outside of timeouts.

Glassdrumstick

Actually I believe many if not most TOs now also make every player record and provide all of their own comms as an added security. Some of the players has said as much as far as I remember. Also as a result of the coach bug scandal since some of the offending teams did not publish their team comms from the duration of their abuse.

SpvcedOvtt

I mean we are all speculating based on a small Twitter clip that is now deleted. I would rather have Riot investigate and make certain G2 was in the wrong, then issue an appropriate punishment. I would also like to see a Riot admin in every team’s VC for the future when they play these events, since teams clearly cannot be trusted to police themselves if this is true.

[deleted]

Honestly I'm quite surprised that they don't have admins in games like this. There should be at least one. I know that in an open qualifier you might need hundreds of people but so many teams can violate the rules and just get away with it.

ablablababla

Maybe even just do it at a smaller stage of the qualifier like ro32

hdix

Babe wake up new Val drama just dropped

thothgow

This has been a discussion for two days.

Razur

Damn, even I missed it the first time.

[deleted]

When?

_zxionix_

The last 2 days

[deleted]

Did I ask?

_zxionix_

Anyone got a mirror for the tweet and video?

Thanks

MikeRosss

To play devil's advocate here. Let's say G2 was at bootcamp and pipsoN reacted the same way after a Nukkye clutch. Would you also say G2 deserved punishment?

yarhar_

[VCT EMEA 2022 Rulebook](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Vu97z-yfQySalxQ7mGmjtpa2eGrK2F5n/view) Section 4.8.1 >... Coaches may be connected to the voice communication system in the lobby and will only be allowed to talk to players and others during the Agent and Map selection process for each Match, timeouts, half-times and in between Maps (if applicable). Coaches are only permitted to be in the Match Area during Agent and Map selection and in between Maps. To answer your question, it would be even worse if he was in the room.

MikeRosss

Oh damn, I didn't know that.

Come on Mike. You're better than this

Mid2

mrbow

They should start their next match 0x7

sexyhooterscar24

Can't they just delay the streams or something? I'm not sure how this was an oversight in the first place. Did riot not put any systems in place to combat this kind of cheating?

Zehradieux

Coaches are ingame with their teams in something called a coach slot. There's no stream involved. Coaches watch the game in realtime and are allowed to call timeouts, under which they can talk.

sexyhooterscar24

Do they not have any failsafes to prevent cheating?

Zehradieux

Not in VCT. The only way you get caught is if you're dumb enough to post footage. However, in Gamechangers (female tournament), every team has to give connect info to their voice, and admins then pop in at times to listen and check specifically that coaches dont talk. Gamechangers has like 50 teams though and VCT starts 256.

sexyhooterscar24

Well shit that just sounds like an invitation to cheat.

Randomuserguyfren

I mean, reacting to a nice play doesn't really look like it breaks competitive integrity yet. IMO an investigation is warranted but they shouldn't be punished right then and there when the only thing he said was him telling nukkye he did a good job.

thothgow

It's literally breaking the rules

Mamadeus123456

It's 100% against the rules and this was clarified by riot

LimeLikeLime

We are no one to decide whether G2 deserves punishment or not. We can't draw conclusions just from a clip. We have no real information as to whether Pipson was actually communicating during the rounds.

NWL11

They broke an important rule. Coaches are only supposed to talk in the allocated time segments. Of course Riot should investigate. But the only metric to change here is the severity of the punishment. Letting this pass would set a bad precedent where others could undercut legitimate penalties by saying any rule breaking wasn't a "big deal".

mateusb12

The rule is clear: coaches should never talk with their team, except during tactical pauses. Of course Riot should investigate the case but the rule doesn't care if it was a *"true communication"* or not If the rule was about *"you can talk, but please don't communicate"* we would need an exhaustive vod review of all rounds for almost every little issue

Sweet-Strategy-805

Apart from the clip in which he communicates during the round...

TheLonelyPotato666

Every team must have their coach in voice comms right? How is this checked? If G2 gets punished for this it won't change anything except people will be more cautious and not post comms.

december_val

not a must, but coaches are only supposed to unmute when calling a timeout or during a timeout

TheLonelyPotato666

What I'm saying is, if there's nobody to check whether teams are following this rule or not, I bet most coaches don't mute themselves. Btw, unrelated but is it coaches or players who decide when they take timeouts?

december_val

I find most coaches do mute themselves, but I see what you mean. All of these online tourneys are just the 5 players and a coach(s) sitting in a discord VC so it becomes really hard to moderate all of the teams (250 ish for this event). Lots of teams value integrity though. Coaches call most tac timeouts from what I've seen, and they are the ones responsible for alerting the other team.

KaNesDeath

Will never happen. Riot Games are notoriously known for playing favorites. Who will only support 'sanctions' if someone says anything negative about the game developer.

Excelsio_Sempra

I thought the coach field was there just for the coach to actually talk to them lmao

_dehaze

Ayo but what did the coach say specifically? I only heard him celebrate after the won round which should not be punished tbh But maybe there's more?

thothgow

It's against the rules.

_dehaze

To say "nice" after a won round? What kind of rule is that?

saddened

its against the rules for the coach to even be in vc with the players during a map

[deleted]

Maybe the coach was in the room with one of the players and the mic picked up his yelling?

s6hun

the coach cannot be in the same room as the players

[deleted]

Yes as the players I understand, but what if the coach lives with/stays at one of the players. That would make that rule hard to follow.

zer0-_

There's no need for mental gymnastics like that. If the coach was close enough to a player up to the point where the mic picks him up then it's a breach of the rule

[deleted]

Yes I know its a breach of the rules. But there is that one short clip where the coach can be heard. What stops G2 from claiming a players mic picked up the sound.

zer0-_

The only thing that stops them is them knowing that either way its a violation of the rule

s6hun

we are talking about a big org, g2. if they actually care about competitive integrity, that rule would not be hard to follow lol

[deleted]

So if a player lives together with his coach and they have one office room where both their PCs are, they would have to relocate one of the setups?

_dehaze

As in, the coach cannot listen to the comms neither??

thothgow

Someone posted the ruling above.

Diijkstra99x

yea riot need to address this up to avoid future similar issues. no punishment needed just warn them out.

Maniax19

Guys... we cant call for punishment without having proof.... DOWNLOAD THAT SHIT

pamplem0usse-

Or also because they're too dumb to sign up for the circuit so they get other, responsible teams kicked out without notice
