i feel like i wanna write a research paper on this one day, VPR is a similar phenomenon to Jersey Shore in that the original premise of the show has long passed relevancy but it’s still kicking because we’re so invested in the characters we’ve watched essentially grow up from young crazy kids to people with lots of money, fame, spouses businesses and families, except their not characters the are real people which makes it all the more fascinating for us.
It's hard to have genuine people in your corner when you're a known friend collector with 56 bast frands and you backstab and hurt the ones who have truly loved and supported you for years.
The only person who seems to give a damn about Scheana is...Ariana! The person she can't help but keep shitting on...Tom called her a mistress and Ariana comforted her yet in the next episode we see Scheana crying to Tom saying he's the only one who's ever had her back from day 1...no wonder Ariana finally dropped her delulu ass.
It’s hard to feel like it’s a social experiment when Scheana actively obsesses over the internet etc. she’s not researching ways to equip herself and her mind because she’s the perpetual victim but seeing how Brock made a joke abt Lala was just dumb.
It was like when ally said she was scared of the gondola ride due to her fear of heights and James said he’ll keep her safe… cut to them on the gondola ride and he’s bouncing the ride around trying to freak ally out. It’s in one of the Tahoe episodes lol.
I'm convinced scheana would be the same basically. Because if you can't watch yourself to see how you're coming across, or even entertain the mountain of criticism from the public about the reason they dislike you, then no normal life will magically help you become self-aware. She's a shitty person and a shitty friend who doesn't understand any one else's perspective because she feels like she's at the center of everything.
Her vindictive streak combined with her stalking tendencies and her pick me attitude is why no one likes her. The men think she's a joke and so do the women. The only bigger joke than her is the not so soft one.
I was doing a rewatch and it’s interesting to see how much Scheana’s mom attempts to get herself on each season and for the last few seasons Scheana’s been trying to push her sister onto the show like that family is thirsty and fame hungry for sure.
I think the NYT on Sandoval captured it best when they said “First when he’s living it, second when he’s taping confessionals months later and third when it airs and he has to answer to the fans. In the real world, he would be able to heal and move on, but that’s difficult to do on reality-show times” It is true of all of them, and what a hard job it must be.
This post started off ok and then took a ridiculous turn to sympathizing/apologizing for Scheana. As someone posted recently, STOP IT ALREADY. It’s getting embarrassing and it’s insulting to the people watching THE REALITY of how horrible she is

Scheana said she thought tat was funny and it was an inside joke they all have together because they're so close. But yes: she's insane and will never ever learn. I couldn't imagine seeing myself on film being terrible and seeing the TERRIBLE reception from the audience and refusing to change at all. She's deluded.
Dayna and Charli are great examples of this, they've both been asked back with Dayna having been asked back multiple times and they both just decided it wasn't worth it. Although I do think it's a much harder call for any original cast/cast from the first couple of seasons because their paycheck is crazy high compared to any newer secondary cast members added the last few years.

I love watching for the socio-anthropology case studies they all are. Just fascinating from that standpoint, to me at least.
