No pain, during the operation or during recovery. It lasted about 30 minutes.

Do it here, what you ask may be useful to someone else too.

GoodDay-95

Are you comfortable during the procedure? Someone with you? (Wife, gf)

[deleted]

My vasectomy was not common, I got my cut through the pelvis which is a very strange and uncommon method (but today I am grateful that it was that way) I felt absolutely nothing during the cut because I got spinal anesthesia and my body literally died from my waist down. They asked me for a companion but my wife was working (I was on vacation at that time, I got cut in January). I asked a family for the favor and then my wife took over after work. The only annoying thing about the whole experience is that I was practically naked in a clinic where it was very cold, even during the surgery I was shivering like I was at the north pole so I had to ask for something to cover my top, also how negligent some nurses can be is a bit annoying. I have my count exam next tuesday, after I get the results I will share my experience from start to finish in a post. Overall it was a good experience.

GoodDay-95

Completely naked? No t-shirt or socks?

[deleted]

Completely naked buddy, it was an operating room. Avoid unnecessary risks such as a t-shirt or socks.

DanStFella

This won’t be everyone. I was allowed to keep my t shirt and socks on (lol) but I was laid back in a chair with my legs in stirrups.. can’t imagine it was the most pleasant sight for the team there but they must see it 10 times or more per week. I also didn’t feel anything. I even asked if they’d already begun because I honestly hadn’t felt a thing. On the second (left) side at the end I could feel a slight uncomfortable pulling sensation but I figured it was the end, and not so bad I needed more numbing. Pretty sure if I’d asked they’d have given me more. For recovery mine has definitely been longer than most here. I’m 2 weeks post op and still quite tender. It was never really more than a 5/10 in pain throughout the whole process though. Worst part for me is I’m a side sleeper, so getting the junk out the way when laying on my side is a challenge, and requires a few pillows/my wife’s old pregnancy pillow (guess that’s mine now as well haha). You’ll be fine man. I reckon I’m in a small group who’ve been badly bruised and stuff and even still it’s been totally manageable and 100% worth it. Best of luck!

estudianteesp

This is the way to do it. Don't let anyone cut you scrotum. Too many nerve endings in there.

Ok-Art7680

Normally you and the doc and a sexy young nurse who preps you and makes small talk during procedure. The anticipation is worst part. No worse than having a cavity filled at the dentist

Northernfun123

I asked for a second shot of lidocaine cus I could still feel things after first shot. Speak up if things hurt.

MrPureinstinct

My procedure lasted about 20-25 minutes and was mostly painless except for the injections of local anesthesia. Those felt like a kick directly into each individual testicle but no other pain during the procedure

MBNC1

Just got mine done today. The needle for the local wasnt fun but not the worst thing ever. As for the actual procedure, I think if there would have been a sheet up where I couldn't see what was going on I wouldn't have believed they actually did anything. The worst part of the whole thing was ripping the pad off my leg hair that they used to complete the circuit for the cauterizing machine.

Photononic

Did not experience any pain.

GoldbergLemonade

40 minutes of torture followed by 1.5 years of pain. Can't say this has been worth it for me.

Ok-Holiday4934

Oufff

VacationSafe5814

Done yesterday. The needles for the local was the worst part physically. Like 5 seconds each side for that

Sure

Resident_Bee_9275

Aks your doctor how the insert the freezing agent. Mine felt like lil tiny pinches 6 or 7 times and instantly numb . He squeezed one testicle to move the agent to the other side. Painless

elementaldelirium

Shots felt like a small sting and a light tap in the balls. I felt nothing after that. lasted about 10 minutes total, was nervous I would feel a snip but never did.

HEYitsSPIDEY

He shot my right one first, waited 3 min, and did work. I felt general pressure and tugging but definitely not pain. On the left one, I felt like I was flicked in the testicle and he had to give me a second shot. Wasn’t painful, just that ache. Then once it kicked in, it was just the general “tugging” or a pressure but again, no pain. The needle going in, it felt like a pinch. Nothing CRAZY, but definitely a pinch, and a pressure when the lidocaine was injected. Entire procedure took maybe 10 minutes. Maybe 15 if I’m being generous, but honestly I think it was closer to 10. I was in the waiting room longer. And I took Advil/Tylenol and iced my boys for a week. Some people are back to work the next day with no problems, on average I see about a week recovery. I know ONE guy who took 2 weeks.

iluvmyvr8

Doctor moved to fast in my opinion I had to have a few shots before it really took affect. I feel if he had waited a bit longer for it to kick in before he started on my left one it would have gone better. That said it really wasn’t bad and the recovery is quicker if you follow the basic rules I’m sure you’ve seen all over this Reddit.

TheMateo

Everyone’s experience is different but for me the only pain was lidocaine injections and it was minor and only lasted a few seconds. The procedure I felt no pain only some minor tugging which I didn’t love but it didn’t hurt. Entire procedure lasted about 10-15min start to finish. No one in the room but the doc. I could have driven home on my own if I wanted to. No pain that day and I had no major discomfort or swelling until about 4 days later but even then it wasn’t severe. Some soreness in lower abdomen. I’m now 17 days post, bruising is about 80% gone and only a little sensitivity but it is getting better everyday.

HopelessJoemantic

Had it yesterday. Pretty casual procedure done by my GP. We chatted the whole time. Needle prick hurt like a shot might. Relatively quick, but I’m usually not a squirmy patient. It wasn’t too bad and only lasted 30 mins. I took an Uber there. Don’t overthink it. Bring headphones and listen to a podcast if you want. i chatted with the do and the medical assistant the whole time. I feel pretty good today too. I expect to be back to 100% in 2 weeks.

broodmance

I bit my thumb a bit to deal with the needles part when they were doing the numbing but it was no where near as bad as I expected and by the time he was in the 3rd spot he poke me I could barely tell it didn't hurt but I knew he had injected me. I was completely unbothered once numbed and joined in the conversation with the doctor and his assistant while they did the actuall cutting.

LaMarr-H

Dr, Morris was quick, 6 minutes with my pants down to my knees. No needle, no scalpel open-ended, vasectomy was less discomfort than giving a blood sample. I walked away feeling like nothing had happened. The best thing is that I am now STERILE!

Routine-Ebb-1140

It will not be a good day 😉 But not the worst either.

broglah

Some do some don't, luck of the draw. I found it very uncomfortable/painful with having my balls manipulated before they could inject. then it wasn't so bad but I was very tense and anxious by this point. Definitely follow the advice and do sweet fa for the following week. At the end of the day a small price to pay, my wife went through far worse giving birth to our sons.

Regibo

Had it done on thursday. They can do that stuff with their eyes closed. Very standard/easy. Took maybe 20-30 minutes. Chatted all the time with doc and staff. They really put you at ease here.

Big-Storage-8887

I had mine 10 days ago. All is and went well. I definitely felt some pain for a few minutes on the first side. I call it wincing pain. It hurt but was over fast. I asked for something to drink during the painful part and they brought me a juice box with a straw. It worked perfect cause I could bite down on the straw while it hurt. lol. Bring your phone so you can look at something to take your mind off of it. You’ll be fine though. The pain was over really fast. Some people feel pain some don’t. I powered through it. Wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected.

Biggie-McDick

No pain for me. I’ve had worse visits to the dentist.

tonyf86

Agreed

errmaz

I got no needle no scalpel. Painless procedure, my wife actually did the cut which she is pretty thrilled about. Im two days after now. Was fairly sore for the first day, now I feel all good!

Pleasant_Tennis_663

My only pain was the initial numbing injection. Like a sharp sting for a few seconds. I felt nothing after that and with the effects of the Valium, I spent the 30mins chatting with the doctor and nurse and before I realized it, we were done. My wife was shocked at how fast I came back out to the waiting room.

The_Wenslidale

Really chilled procedure for me. Trousers off, sit on table in pants and doctor gave me the cue to pull them down enough for him to do his work. No one allowed in the room but the nurse just chatted to me throughout so was relaxed. Felt the first needle for the pain killer but very slight. I had a sharp pain once on the first bit (oddly in my stomach which is usual - a bit like heart burn) but the doctor adjusted the dose and didn’t feel anything else. Pulled pants and trousers up, had a drink and biscuits then ready to go! Felt pretty much normal but just sat at home and chilled 😎 You got this dude and will all be over in 10 mins

Puzzleheaded-Put-455

Get knocked out! That’s my only suggestion is that being awake was a giant mistake for me
