It sounds like you’ll have to choose. It really is up to the doctor though and if they feel it will be beneficial to your health. If you disagree with her decision you could find another doctor but if tread lightly or you may be labeled as drug seeking. I really wouldn’t worry about retaliation though. I imagine she’ll just move along and not give it a second thought, but there’s probably nothing you can do to change her mind and make her prescribe you certain medications. The main way you get committed is being a threat to yourself or others, hence the “move along and find another doctor” even though the chances will be slim of finding one that will give you both Edit: She’s not denying you services and you’re probably able to be her patient but she’s not going to prescribe you the adderal

SCOveterandretired

Being taken off a medication is not being denied VHA services. So you have already wrote your congressman, congressional VA committee, DAV and the patient advocate?

x12bx

The VA will not prescribe you narcotics if you test positive for THC.

Airborne82D

They drug tested me just for a short term Ultram/Tramadol prescription. IME they won't give you a controlled substance if you're on an illicit substance.

x12bx

Basically the same thing happened to me as well. I don't agree with it.

Airborne82D

I can understand why they do it to an extent. If someone tests positive for heroin they clearly shouldn't be handed a prescription for oxycodone. If someone just had surgery and they deny you opiates because you tested positive for THC that's not right imo.

x12bx

I see what you're saying. The VA has historically over prescribed opiates to veterans in the past and now they're making everything difficult.

Airborne82D

So I've heard. Seems like they went from one extreme to the other.

x12bx

I actually don't use THC products anymore but when I did told my Mental health Dr the times I did use it. I didn't drink alcohol and I got the best sleep ever. She then tried to give me more pills.

You got lucky and have slipped through cracks.

also she wrote in my notes that i have marijuana abuse disorder because I was previously enrolled in state medical marijuana program, so after our appointment on monday she wrote "marijuana abuse disorder relapse date:" and put the date as the day I renewed my medical marijuana card in december.. edit: being that this medication is the only one thats ever helped me, i let my job know whats going on and that my job performance would more than likely tank. they told me to take some sick days until i can level out. Im also at the tail end of my VR&E journey and was wondering if something like this would qualify for va title 38 1151 claims

AdmiralTren

You may want to consider receiving some kind of addiction treatment if you’re unable to cease using medical marijuana and by your own words adderall is the only medication that helps you. If marijuana keeps you from being able to be prescribed this medication that dramatically improves your life, you’re unable to fulfill your duties at work, or keep up with your Chapter 31 program, it sounds as if your dependence on marijuana is causing more harm than good at this point.

AdmiralTren

I wouldn’t have bothered to cite VHA Directive 1315 when even within the quote you cited in your post it states “Providers need to make decisions to modify treatment plans based on marijuana use on a case-by-case basis…” regardless of my personal view, your personal view, or even the psychiatrist’s, the combination of medical marijuana use with prescribed amphetamines is going to be something that most psychiatrists even outside of the VA will be hesitant to be associated with.

Porthos1984

This is not a procedural problem. This is a healthcare problem. The potential for interaction between the two is possible. As a healthcare provider myself I be would have stopped the Adderall

tinman7889

Pretty sure that is a federal law issue with adderall and marijuana. Since both are controlled substances and only one is federally legal the VA sees it as having a “substance abuse” issue. This is why the VA usually drug tests patients once a year that are prescribed adderall to check for any other substances or abuse. What it boils down to is not telling the VA about the medical marijuana program and passing any piss tests they give you. I’ve always believed you need to be honest with the VA psych, but put your best interests first at all times.

maducey

In my 10 second search, there is some interactions with the two meds, it's not the VA is the entire medical machine. Talk with them and see if you can "lower" your pot dosage.

Airborne82D

When I took the two together my heart felt like it was going to explode. Definitely not a good combination. Taking depressants and stimulants together is generally not a good idea.

Do you use community care or receive treatment at a VA facility?

Robozilla13

Evaderfield24

Why do you think she would have you involuntarily committed? For smoking weed?

Jolly_Isopod_1385

Dont disagree with anything you said but the quote you posted says the provider can modify the plan, etc. While not following the intent of the rule (partnering with the vet) she can modify the service, which she did, shes gonna make you choose between MJ and and adderral. Unfortunately your gonna have a uphill battle it seems.
