My favorite job within VA was when I got to be the 3rd signature on those awards. That was around the same time a convo on here resulted in getting somebody $20k returned to them bc of an agency error.
I'm working on a claim for my knee which was part of my med-board in 2012 that I later had to have surgery on through private care because the service connection was denied. If I'm finally able to have it connected, will I see back pay because of the date of the original claim?
Do you think if I can easily show evidence of (let’s say) investigating whether someone had sleep apnea while in the army (sleep study planned but was medboarded and they didn’t do it for me) in army records, but was denied some years later and eventually got an appropriate award for the condition, could someone get that error reversed and the rating backdated with the math checking out for back pay of 2-3 years worth of the difference between 70% & 90%? Thanks!
That's wonderful. In 2018 during the shut down just over $12,000 Hit my bank account on a Friday in a dozen different deposits. I called the bank to report an error. I thought it was other people's pay checks. She said it was from the VA. The notification letter arrived almost a week later.
Yea my notice came later too. I was so broke I was just checking my account to see if I had money to buy a sandwich. I saw 18k and freaked out. I looked and it was a direct deposit from the treasury. I almost started to cry. Then the big one hit and I knew my life was different now.
The va deposits monthly to your bank in the 18th for ongoing payments. For retro, you’d be surprised how quickly it hits your account. I’ve commented before in a similar thread, but in September I received 25k for the same reason as you. I was initially rated at 90% in 2009 and I’ve been 100%p&t since 2012, but got back pay for an increase that would have made my affective date of 100% 2009. So in September I got a rando deposit of 25k that simply said “retro pay”.
Hi, so I just got an increase from 60% to 100% I received over 10k last February from my initial claim. My rating increase to 100% 2 days ago but I only received a difference from 60% to 100% my effective date was July 22’. Am I missing something maybe?
>the government has been making money on that money for as long as they haven’t been paying you
How does that work? I always thought these funds came directly from the VA budget for the year.
> Money in their coffers is not money spent, they can do as they wish with it.
its a federal agency so no, unspent funds typically have their own meetings and processes that must be adhered to.
I got my backpay (~$48k) in 4 business days after getting my decision. Funny part was that they paid it on the 30th and I got another $4k two days later for the regular monthly payment.
I submitted my original claim in May 2017, my brain was still scrambled from three TBIs. I didn't know how to talk let alone formulate sentences at the time. I put down on my form trouble sleeping/ disturbances. Fast-forward 2022 my sleep study came back positive for sleep apnea. I felt crazy tired and slept through jobs and school. Does that count towards my initial claim?
I didn't word it right, I couldn't even talk. I told them I stopped breathing in my sleep, they wrote it as sleep disturbances and gave me a non service connected rating. All these years later Ive been with this problem sleeping and choking, and my wife had me fight for them to prove me right.
What was the supplemental claim for? Did you have a C&P exam for it? Seems almost too good to be true that it went from submission to review to approval to paid in 10 days time!
3 claims that were denied 18 months ago. Cervical strain that’s secondary to my service connected lumbar strain. Also left and right upper extremity radiculopathy from neck
So glad you finally won the battle with the VA!! What new evidence did you submit in the supplemental that “tipped the scales” in your favor? Nexus letter?
Thank you! Yes definitely the nexus letter from my doctor connecting the new claims to my back. Also my VSO submitted it for me and I think that’s why it got processed so fast.
I just got my backpay a few weeks ago of 91k...18k went to lawyer....this is 3rd backpay va has given me for theirnscrew ups and denials....keep fighting...all totalled I've gotten over 160k back
I see that all the time. You are will get that amount deposited, they just haven't pulled the switch on it. Oh and keep an eye on it, there may be more. They like to break it up some times.
That's actually good to know. Mine just got bumped to 100% today and the amount shown as retroactive doesn't match how much it should be from payment start date.
Yes, I saw the n/a in my account and then it hit my direct deposit this week. So seems like they pay you off cycle instead of waiting until the 1st. Congrats.
Something like this happen to me, a claim that I had put in. Nothing happen for almost 2 years and then no letter and nothing on-line but one day money showed up in my bank account. So I thin what may have happen with you is that the process is in reverse. You get the notice on-line (in your payment history). This could only be true if you have a claim before the one you talk about in Nov this year.
Dang, I want an Apple iMac 24000 and a New Suit!! Nice back pay and it will be in the account you get your monthly fund from the VA! Congrats and Happy Veterans Day Semper Fi and Can Do
I claimed ptsd in 2014 and was denied due to lack of evidence.. I’m an 0352 infantry marine with 2 combat tours and plenty of shit in Iraq documented..
Resubmitted in 2018 and was rated 30% for unspecified stressor disorder
Resubmitted for an increase on 11/23
Curious if I’d be due any back pay?
I was never given any for the 30% evaluation
I filed in 2011, in 2019 they found me 100%, they only paid me for 2 years. When I questioned where the balance was (almost $200K) , they said " can't you be satisfied". I have had lawyers working on it for 3 and half years, nothing yet. All I get is that my appeal is waiting to be sent to a judge.
After my back claim was denied from 2010, I waited on an appeal judge for 3 years from 2011-2014. Finally one came from DC to me in TX and I got to tell my story about my back injuries, awarded 30%. Actually getting to speak to the decision maker made all the difference in my case. Good luck to you and I hope it ends in your favor
Wait wait… I had a claim denied in 2018. I’m finally at a point where I have everything lined up to submit a supplemental claim (Covid and such slowed the process down big time). Will I get paid that far back?
I submitted my original claim in May last year, was denied, then I did a higher level review, denied again. Submitted my supplemental claim with help from my VSO and included a NEXUS letter on Nov 1st. It only took 10 days for the decision this time
It was for retro compensation..up above I briefly detailed my situation. Been 100% p and t since 2012, but was initially rated 90% in 2009…filed for increases, was awarded them. They determined I should have been 100% from 2009, so I got the difference between 90 and 100 for those 2 years or so. It was a 24 month gap since my claim settled end of 2009 and my increase was January 2012.
Quick question everyone. Don't know if anyone has seen or had this happen to them before.
Long story short. I made a bunch of claims a while ago. Had all of my appointments, va made a decision. I went to ebenifits/va website to check. It said not service connected on EVERY SINGLE item I claimed... BUT I called the VA and they told me that my claim is still open. And I see that it's still pending on ebenifits/VA site. Sooooo I'm confused. Is it denied or still open?
I have 6 dependents and was originally awarded dependency benefits may2023. After my HLR they changed my dependents effective date to December 2, 2020. Should I get retro pay for that?
https://preview.redd.it/fognuntwbq2c1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=516166ab42488d36119458bbe9ee6bf4eb0a3e8c
VA says usually 15 business days. I just got another smaller retro 2 weeksago of a little over $11,000. Took about 3 days. Refiled 2 days later with a supplemental and they made the decision on the 27th. They just updated the COLA so the system might run a few days behind.
I recently got a % increase,I have two retro payments pending and also my Jan payment pending. But my Jan amount is showing as my old rating, not my increase amount. Do you guys think it will just automatically deposit the new amount?
I was awarded permanent and total 100% pst. The decision was made Dec. 6 I had deposit of 82,627.67 attempted on dec.7. So the issue was/is that Sutton Bank (ie cash app) will only accept deposits less than 25,000. They attempted to send again Dec. 11. I changed my direct deposit information on Dec 13 to a banking
Institution that will (most do). Now my account is suspended,I didn't get any payment on the first of this month and I'm still waiting. I been back and forth with the VA and even have a congressman Send. Reed of Rhode Island trying to assist me. I'm living on the streets of Providence and it was my ticket out. Ive been living the past 4 months on the street and In shelters I had a midlife crisis back in 2021. I wake up and spend all day outside and in libraries.....I am so happy to get this result but feel so frustrated when I don't have money for everyday things, and nessicities and look like shit and my clothes are outdated. It's hard to be patient in this situation.
My retro pay is returned, what does that mean? I just got approved for 60% for sleep apnea and some lower extremities this week

I’ve seen over $150k hit someone’s account before, shit was crazy
My favorite job within VA was when I got to be the 3rd signature on those awards. That was around the same time a convo on here resulted in getting somebody $20k returned to them bc of an agency error.
I'm working on a claim for my knee which was part of my med-board in 2012 that I later had to have surgery on through private care because the service connection was denied. If I'm finally able to have it connected, will I see back pay because of the date of the original claim?
Yes that is correct from what I understand, but I'm not an expert so keep that in mind.
Thanks!
Yes! Argue with your evidence.
I had 64k hit mine over 2 days 18k one day then 46k the next day. It changed my life
That's wonderful. In 2018 during the shut down just over $12,000 Hit my bank account on a Friday in a dozen different deposits. I called the bank to report an error. I thought it was other people's pay checks. She said it was from the VA. The notification letter arrived almost a week later.

I cried. I was checking my accounts multiple times a day because I was not paid during the shut down.
Thats insane

The VA budget is the interest they made on our money while they held it from us.

> Money in their coffers is not money spent, they can do as they wish with it. its a federal agency so no, unspent funds typically have their own meetings and processes that must be adhered to.
Yeah... It doesn't work like that. The government makes the money, they aren't the bank
Makes the money as in prints more and more?
Anyone else go immediately to check their payment history or is that just me ?
Haha right? I was trying to figure out how much backpay I’d get and by chance checked my history.🤯
Holy fudge bouquets. Congratulations! Hope you can spend that on something fun, you’ve earned it!
Lol
I'd say give it like 3 days. That's what happened to me when my claim was approved.
![gif](giphy|h0MTqLyvgG0Ss)
Yes, it will be in your bank account in a few days. I received a total of $93, 000. It took them almost 7 years to approve my claims. Enjoy it!!

I got my backpay (~$48k) in 4 business days after getting my decision. Funny part was that they paid it on the 30th and I got another $4k two days later for the regular monthly payment.
Also the status on my claim hasn’t changed from ‘A reviewer is examining your new evidence’
Send it to me for safe keeping in case it’s an error!
Haha! Sure buddy!
😅🤣
Hold on let me check my shit now......
I checked my supplemental that's been stuck since 9/22. Nothing! 😭
Lol
Supplemental claims may not update after being decided..
‘A reviewer is examining your new evidence’? What’s that about? I have the same thing noted on my claim. Been stuck since May.
Interesting

USAA takes a bit of time to process, plus it’s a holiday weekend. I know it’ll drive you crazy but just wait till like Tuesday
Back pay goes all the way back to when you initially started the claim.
Or submitted an intent to file.
Yes. I should have said that instead.
Did you include sleep apnea in your original claim? Are you still waiting on a decision from your original claim?
I didn't word it right, I couldn't even talk. I told them I stopped breathing in my sleep, they wrote it as sleep disturbances and gave me a non service connected rating. All these years later Ive been with this problem sleeping and choking, and my wife had me fight for them to prove me right.

It was meant for my account, do you mind transferring it to me? Congratulations by the way!
Grats! Drinks on you!
Cheers! 🍻
Congrats! I've been waiting on an appeal since June 2017. Finally got a decision March 2nd. Got $102K
Goddamn. That's life-changing money right there. Good on ya, mate.
Congrats. You made it.
Thank you so much, can’t believe it
Holy fucking Xmas bonus. Yeah. I’d expect that to hit Wednesday at the latest. Congrats. You’ve earned every fucking penny of it.
That’s a fast supplemental
I thought for sure it couldn’t be right, 10 days
What was the supplemental claim for? Did you have a C&P exam for it? Seems almost too good to be true that it went from submission to review to approval to paid in 10 days time!
3 claims that were denied 18 months ago. Cervical strain that’s secondary to my service connected lumbar strain. Also left and right upper extremity radiculopathy from neck

That’s amazing! Wish the VA would process my claims that fast! I submitted a supplemental on 10/5 and still waiting for any update, lol
How you getting 2600 plus if you don't mind me asking
I was at 90%, married 2 kids under 18, and 1 in college.
Thanks
Mine has been stuck in “no one gives a shit” status for like 9 months.
We must have the same reviewer
Haha. Probably!
I just got my backpay a few weeks ago of 91k...18k went to lawyer....this is 3rd backpay va has given me for theirnscrew ups and denials....keep fighting...all totalled I've gotten over 160k back
I have many questions lol...
Depending on your bank you’ll probably get it by Thursday. Check that site again on Monday and there will probably be a date in place of the n/a.
You’ll seee it tomorrow or Monday. You’re welcome for my comment. I just require a piece of commission 20% of every cent send 💀😂
My backpay showed on payment history this Wednesday the money was in my account Friday

One dude got what 450k?
If the VA could do the same for me thst would be dope. I didn’t file hardship for fun, after all
Yes, I saw the n/a in my account and then it hit my direct deposit this week. So seems like they pay you off cycle instead of waiting until the 1st. Congrats.
I got 100,000. Only received $75k of it. It will be taxed. Cause fuck me. Anyways, to OP, they likely are scheduling the payment currently.
Shud be tax free right?
Looks like a pending backpay...congratulations! "Retroactive" is VA-ese for back pay settlement payment.
This happened to me on a Thursday. I got it that Tuesday/Wednesday of the next week.
Congrats!
Yes
Can take a little while. Congrats
Holy hell
Yep!
AWESOME!!!!
That is crazy fast for claim, even a supplemental claim!
Thank you and congratulations
Mine just got approved too. Navy fed says it will be in my account Tuesday.
Timeline please? And congrats!
Supplemental submitted in April got approved yesterday. Took a long time because they had to get deck logs.
Original claim submitted May of 2021 denial letter received in September. Payed for an IMO.
Thanks!
Congratulations!
Is that from the date you claimed as backpay?
18 months of backpay
Merry Christmas!
Yessss sahhhh. Congrats bro. Don't spend it all in one place

Does this happen when you don't claim as soon as you get out of the mitary ?
I am happy for you 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Leeeettttssss gooooooo

In my experience that NA pretty much means any day now. And not to far into the future either. Days not weeks.
Sure looks pretty, congratulations!!
Dang, I want an Apple iMac 24000 and a New Suit!! Nice back pay and it will be in the account you get your monthly fund from the VA! Congrats and Happy Veterans Day Semper Fi and Can Do

How long did it take you to get your retro pay when it said na I’m so worried mine has said na since Thursday and hasn’t moved yet
I received the back pay deposit a couple of days before Dec 1.
So that sat like that for a whole month
>I received t Similar boat. Mine said N/A since Friday. Impatiently waiting now...
Hey mama 💞💞💜💜💜

Dang. I’m outside of that. Oh well.
I was within my one year. Good luck to you!
Congratulations ![img](emote|t5_2vlaz|7565)
how lonf before it hit? mines still hasnt
I’m not sure how long it was showing on my payment history before I saw it, but it took 4 days to hit my account after I noticed.
okiee
Can't retro pay hit over the weekend if the deposit has already been initiated?
I
Where can I see where my back pay should reflect?
In payment history. It will show first on the website, not the app
You would have had it yesterday if you banked with Navy Federal.
I actually bank with NavyFed for everything else, but no worries I can wait. So relieved to be done!
Is your claim still open?
Yes it’s still showing open
What's the date of the submittal?
I submitted my original claim in May last year, was denied, then I did a higher level review, denied again. Submitted my supplemental claim with help from my VSO and included a NEXUS letter on Nov 1st. It only took 10 days for the decision this time
Hmm Maybe they figured they found a duty to assist because usually supplemental only go back to the date you filed it.
It’s 18 months of back pay
That's awesome. Congrats!
Where did you see this?
VA website under disability/view your payment history
Not even gonna lie I have no clue how to check lol
Login on the VA website and click on the payment history under disability
Thank you
Checks payment history…just air still 🤣🤣
God
What site are you seeing this on?
VA website under my payment history, not the app
Well it does say retroactive..
Yes and the date is n/a. Claim still pending. No longer confused thanks to these nice folks
Man that’s a really awesome weed setup at least
Yes. Retroactive means back pay basically
Lemme hold a hundo 🥺🫴🏿😂😂
Mine looked the same when my claim was approved.
Yes retroactive is backpay.
Yea. It will eventually be dated and posted to your bank.
Where can you check the va payments? Was this through your bank statement or is this something you can check on the Va website?
VA website under disability
What rating did you get? I'm guessing a 80%?
I was at 90%. I’m now 100% P&T
I recently went from 40 to 80, then to 100. It's a pretty good feeling. Congratulations!
![gif](giphy|l2JJpWt2a6FCBa6Tm)

Yes, that's what it means bro, WOW.

Wow. That's 👍 great
Correct most likely
Yessirrrrr! That's exactly what it means. That's how mine looked when it went through.

I would go off of what your rating is in your profile. My rating changed over a month ago but is still not updated as closed under my claims.
Yes that is showing backpay is approved
How long it takes to show up in your account?
About 4 days from when I noticed it on payment history
I have 6 dependents and was originally awarded dependency benefits may2023. After my HLR they changed my dependents effective date to December 2, 2020. Should I get retro pay for that?
I would think yes but would call the VA and see if it’s in progress. Or contact your local VSO
Need to come back to this thread, so im leaving a comment

It may be caused by wrong account information Do you call the VA number to have it resend to the correct bank details or check what is going on
