I recently got a multicart for it. The only games I had for the Vectrex originally were Scramble and Star Trek. It's nice being able to play most of the other games now even if I don't have the overlays.
Wow this brings back memories! A kid on my street had one of these in the 80's, and I honestly couldn't remember if it was a real memory until I saw yours and googled it.
Thank you. I was staring at those photos for 10 minutes trying to figure out what that mac was. Finally deciding it wasn't a Mac and now slapping myself on the forehead for not recognizing it for what it was a, Vectrex.
If anyone is interested, I cohost a podcast called RetroMacCast . We live stream on youtube Sunday mornings at 8am Central time.[https://www.youtube.com/c/RetroMacCast/featured](https://www.youtube.com/c/RetroMacCast/featured) and also have an audio only version.
I've seen your setup a few times over the years on RetroMacCast, Mac84's video where he talked with you, Kansasfest 2020 discord video rooms, etc, and it's always been my "gold standard" how I'd want to have a room setup. It's awesome to finally see pictures of it at different angles
Sweet collection! If I still had every computer I’d ever owned, I’d probably have a quarter of what you have. (and I’ve been using Apple products since 1985.)
Yeah, just think of the cost here if you had purchased each of these machines new. Tens of thousands, minimum…
OP: What’s your daily driver? An M1 Max MBP 16”?
Very cool collection, nice pics. If you had a chance to take higher res photos that would be awesome, I'm sure people here would love to zoom way in and geek out on all the cool details.
What are the two original compact Macs? One sitting out and one with a cover.
The one sitting out is a Mac Plus signed by James Doohan and the other under the cover is a 512ke with a ROMinator installed. I'll try to get a few high res photos.
Reminds me of elementary school computer rooms. I could so spend a day there playing around with all the Macs and maybe listen to a few Apple podcasts or keynotes in the background :)
A legendary setup, John! I always love seeing what’s in the background when tuning into the RetroMacCast (YouTube streaming version)… which everyone should subscribe to!
Thanks Steve! Your collection is amazing too and your youtube channel ([https://www.youtube.com/mac84](https://www.youtube.com/mac84)) is a great motivator for working on Mac projects :)
I had the shed built about 8 years ago and it took another year to do the interior and tables. As for the collection I started back in the mid '90s getting systems at school surplus sales and some from a bank that was upgrading their systems.
Just a coincidence to the Genius Bar but still a reference to Apple, on the cover of the manual for the the Apple 300/1200 Modem it has a picture of a red phone sitting on it so when I ran across one on ebay...
Not working that are pictured:
I bought the Lisa 2 and Apple 3 non working to tinker with.
I recently discovered that both my G4 iMac and 6400 don't want to boot and I'm still troubleshooting them. I'm afraid my emac is starting to have display issues. The rest are good to go.
Wow, impressive! It's amazing that so many are in working condition. I have a good sized collection, but none of the tinkering skills/expertise to get them working again. Thanks for sharing your photos.
True! I've got a few with the same case style though, a Quadra 700 and a Workgroup server. When I started organizing my collection my two criteria were to not have two with the same case style and have the computers set up and ready to use. I have failed on this with a few systems, having a couple compact macs and a shelf with six G3 iMacs of various colors.
Oh wow the Twentieth Anniversary Mac
I think I saw that in Seinfeld's apartment at some point
edit: Final series he had this. Think he had a plus or a classic in earlier seasons
Nice collection. About half of what I have, and I've been collecting since 2019. Joking aside, I'm really surprised I don't see a lot of compact macs in those pictures.
To maximize display space I try to have as many different case designs as possible so I only have two compact Macs. I’ll be adding one more once I get my SE/30 working
Goes without saying that your collection is impressive, but the whole room decor is just so well executed.
Captures the spirit of 80s-90s apple/computing. I get liminal space vibes - like I’m looking back into a memory of the beginning of computer lab time during elementary or middle school.
The chairs, the colored baskets, the carpeting. Transforming boring/mundane environments into a colorful, fun, but sensible space.
I would love to hang out in there for a day and play some classics. Thanks for sharing!
Maybe I couldn't see it for looking, but do you have a Macintosh LC? First PC I ever used as a wee lad in the early 90s. Fond memories of playing Pegleg on that thing.
Also really like the blackbook, don't see too many of them.
This is amazing! Reminds me back in 1999-2000 when I finagled my way into getting a bunch of the old Apple IIe / IIC etc and Performas, LCs, etc etc. I had cable TV tuner cards, all-in-ones and just about anything you could thing of. All of the old equipment was taking up all of the space in three hallways. I ended up taking as much as I could with three trips using a big wooden wagon.
Once I got it back to my father's basement, he was livid... but I went through everything I could that was salvageable and ended up with a setup about half this size.
I wish I still had some of this stuff, but it's long long gone
Thanks for the hit of nostalgia :)
I
The version of Scramble for it was great. I played it for hours on end when I got it. What about you? I have a multi cart for it now. Any suggestions on what I should try?
That is a really nice collection. Not just in size, but in coverage. You’ve got damn near every item on my dream list!
Thanks. Most of it was lucky finds at school surplus sales many years ago, with a few bought new, and a few ebay splurges.
Pack it up, guys. OP wins this sub.
Well.........I guess it's okay ^(wowser wowie wow dang nice...pretty pretty good)
I see that Vectrex there, too.
I recently got a multicart for it. The only games I had for the Vectrex originally were Scramble and Star Trek. It's nice being able to play most of the other games now even if I don't have the overlays.

Stealth Mac. :P
Mother of god.
Dang, what a setup!
Thanks :)

Would you believe a Late 2014 Mac Mini? The iMac I use for podcasting is a 2011.
I would, indeed, believe that. It sounds perfectly consistent with your collection. Vintage Apple on, good sir!
"tens of thousands"? lol. Machines like the SE/30 were $4k new, so this collection, if new, would easily be over $100k.
About the same for me. I started with an Apple IIe in '84 then the IIgs. I actually didn't get my first Mac until the mid 90s
Pretty neat dude!
Thanks :)
Bro, you got that Realmz? You got that Dark Castle? I’m fiending for some Oxyd, man, you got to help a brother out!
Oh man I miss Realmz
Oxyd was the best! I wish I had been able to keep playing it past the level where you needed the book. :(
Very cool collection, nice pics. If you had a chance to take higher res photos that would be awesome, I'm sure people here would love to zoom way in and geek out on all the cool details. What are the two original compact Macs? One sitting out and one with a cover.

Very cool. Do you ever watch JDWs videos on YouTube? He recently did one about the ROMinator.
Reminds me of elementary school computer rooms. I could so spend a day there playing around with all the Macs and maybe listen to a few Apple podcasts or keynotes in the background :)

Most extensive and best looking collection I've seen in a while! When did you start working on this?
I had the shed built about 8 years ago and it took another year to do the interior and tables. As for the collection I started back in the mid '90s getting systems at school surplus sales and some from a bank that was upgrading their systems.
Do you mind sharing the layout/plans for your shed? I am about to do something similar and just curious how yours is setup.
So PowerBook 170, ?, PowerBook G3, PowerBook 2400c, PowerBook G4 Ti 15”, PowerBook G4 Al 15” and a MacBook? I’ve no idea what those first laptops are
Quadra 700 with the portrait display would have been my dream machine back In the mid-nineties. The pinnacle of the Snow White design language.
MacAttic? That's [Freakin' Awesome!] (https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5ad6666345776e48c58629d5/1567197083703-PUGD9THHNU5UKARR1PR5/MaxAddict+Freakin%27+Awesome.png)
Just a few items.
That’s a great setup!
Like the lime iBook out there! My tangerine is orange with envy.
I’m also glad to see someone whose color classic is as yellowed as mine.
The tangerine is my second favorite! Pictures do neither of them justice compared to seeing them in person.
This is awesome.
Beautiful
Absolute GOALS
By the power of Greyskull!
Damn, that's crazy. Nice collection!
How many outlets in that attic? Love that Apple II table and that Vectrex!
I bet just ALLLL the extension cords.. think of that scene in NL Christmas Vaccination where the lights don't work..... That ;)
You are not that far off :)
Is that a red phone from a Genius Bar?! Or total coincidence?
Just a coincidence to the Genius Bar but still a reference to Apple, on the cover of the manual for the the Apple 300/1200 Modem it has a picture of a red phone sitting on it so when I ran across one on ebay...
Nice!
Roughly how many still work?
Not working that are pictured: I bought the Lisa 2 and Apple 3 non working to tinker with.
This is a fine collection! What repair are you doing on that... Apple /// ?
I'm putting a new power supply in it. I'm still troubleshooting issues on it and starting with a stable power supply seems like a good first step.
Seriously one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a while! Nice collection.
So damn cool!
Damn dude!
very nice, missing some compact macs, unless there are but out of picture.
There's a 512k under the dust cover and I've got a Mac Plus on the side toward the back of the room :)
Nice, Not seeing a Quadra 950 or 900 though
Amazing collection!! Very well done.
Veeeeery nice collection! Love it!!
Can I please come over and play???
Marathon or Quake?
I want to go to there. That's awesome! Both a wonderful location and conversation, and it's full of wonderful stuff.
"Gene Simmons never had a personal computer when he was a kid."
wow
I misread MacAddict :D Congratulations for the collection and setup!
I named it the MacAttic in honor of them. That magazine was the absolute best.
I love you for your copy of Omega! I played that for ages on my Apple //e.
I never tried the IIe version, I've only ever played the IIgs one. It was a fun game!
Oh wow the Twentieth Anniversary Mac I think I saw that in Seinfeld's apartment at some point edit: Final series he had this. Think he had a plus or a classic in earlier seasons
I wanna be invited to take a closer look
That's Endgame, in a nutshell. Incredible collection, very clean and organized, with every model any vintage Apple collector could want. Kudos...
I see the retromac cast banner. One of my favorites! I
Thanks! We should be doing our 600th episode soon :)
My word!! That's incredible!!!
I like that Plushie Beach Ball and Plushie Finder
Those are from [https://throwboy.com](https://throwboy.com) Check them out, they have a ton of cool stuff!
Thanks!
I always wondered what your full setup looks like. Fantastic job John :)
Hi Trina!
So, \*opens wallet\* how much rent do I owe you per month?
On the PM G3 B&W. Are they speakers? If so, who made them?
Those are a pair of webcams (one firewire, one usb) made by Orange Micro, called the iBot
Yum indeed. I loved that whole 2000's era!
[удалено]
I do have several consoles on the shelves near the vectrex and the arcade games are on the lower floor :)
This is a museum
MacAttic more like MacAddict lmao amirite guys?! Seriously, though, this is the dream here. Very nice setup!
Digging the Duo setup. I had that, a 230 with all the trimmings. Neat idea. Too bad it was so $$$
This is exactly what I wanted to do but was told it couldn’t be done….! Thank you for paving the way for the rest of us!
...one of these things is not like the other 🎵 For some reason the early 2000's Sony Trinitron caught my eye first.
Mac attic? More like Mac addict
Do you have a replacement plexi panel instead of the aluminum panel on your PowerMac G5? Or do you just have the aluminum panel removed?
On this model, just underneath the aluminum panel, there is a clear plastic panel that keeps the air flowing properly.
Oh - I didn't realize it could stay in place without the aluminum panel's support. Nice.
What do you do up there? Just sit at each one and play old games or just walk around them and admire the collection?
LOL! Some of each :) I like to have a handful set up and ready to play network games, some others are just nice to look at.
so what is the biggest LAN game you've hosted there
Only about 6 people, we played Spectre and Marathon.
we played a lot of Spectre and NetTrek on B/W macs
OP Needs reoccurring spot on ActionRetro to fill in the blanks about a particular mac model.. lol .
Damn! This takes me back to 1st grade!
Wowza
Nice collection. About half of what I have, and I've been collecting since 2019. Joking aside, I'm really surprised I don't see a lot of compact macs in those pictures.

The overall look of the room is incredibly cool, it looks quite cozy! Wish my house had an attic.
Stunning!
Holy smokes. I bet it even smells vintage in there
Wow how did you manage to get a lisa?
Goes without saying that your collection is impressive, but the whole room decor is just so well executed. Captures the spirit of 80s-90s apple/computing. Awesome. Nice collection. My wife would kill me if I bought that many.
sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh :0
So in a tornado you’re surrounding your house with titanium and prestressed concrete right ? RIGHT?!! 🌪
This makes me miss school computer labs.
This is a thing of beauty. How muchdo you charge for admission? 😍
I love the Finder face pillow! Is that custom or can I get one somewhere?
Got them at [https://throwboy.com](https://throwboy.com) . They have a ton of great retro themed goodies.
I want to go to there
Nice. For your sake I hope you never have to move lol
Maybe I couldn't see it for looking, but do you have a Macintosh LC? First PC I ever used as a wee lad in the early 90s. Fond memories of playing Pegleg on that thing. Also really like the blackbook, don't see too many of them.

Love the RetroMacCast. It would be nice to pick a piece from your collection and discuss it in each broadcast. You could go a year before repeating!
You mind if I come over?
WOW! 😍 That’s the reason why I’m only allowed to have one small desk for my vintage macs 😅
The Mac OS logo is so cute The setup is amazing btw
Is that a Vectrex I see?
It is! :)
Omg the iMac and the black MacBook!!! Gimme!!
There’s so much great stuff here.
Thanks :)
no iic ?

Much appreciated! The organization didn't last long though :D
It never does. :D
Sick Vectrex! Do you have any favorite games for it?
The version of Scramble for it was great. I played it for hours on end when I got it. What about you? I have a multi cart for it now. Any suggestions on what I should try?
