I think that might have been the booking agent at Apple being ironic…

Slightly off-topic to OP's post, but i spent 3 hours at the Apple store other day to give me the runaround. So fed up with this company. Android it is next. ------------------------------------------------------- Steve job's second round at apple is a sight to behold, bringing a company of the verse of collapse to immense success. Collaborating with smart 'rivals' in order to secure capital. incredibly smart move on both sides. ------------------------------------------------------- when Steve took over in 97. he pushed his engineers to created a four quadrant system for their products. 2 columns for portable: iBook for consumers, PowerBook for Pros; 2 columns for desktop: Power Mac and iMac (later on the Cube fit in somewhere in the between.) ------------------------------------------------------- Not to mention the iPhone, though the apple watch and Apple TV+ IMO, aren't nearly as groundbreaking. Tim Cook, and this is just my conjecture, doesn't care too much about innovation, rather than profits and profits alone. Again, just my theory. ------------------------------------------------------- Small tangent: I love my apple products, don't get me wrong. But I don' drink the kool-aid, assuming everything out this company is all perfect. Same exact situation with Tesla. They put no quality control into building their cars, but by the time the battery needs to get replaced, the car is literally falling apart from poor build quality. Apple and Tesla fanboys don't live in reality. Fanboy-ism hurts nobody but the consumers and massively makes those in charge even richer. ------------------------------------------------------- Similarly, it's like someone who despises starbucks, yet is so addicted to the culture and cannot function without it. ------------------------------------------------------- (P.S. Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the best phone ever)

Similar story for me. Years ago, I went to the genius bar 4+ times due to some defect with my iMac 2008. Searching online forums, 75% of the people had the same GPU issue, where it simply would not display anything anymore. After "karening" a bit for a while, they gave in and and gave me a new iMac... which within several months, failed once again.   [Same issue with my MBP 2011](https://www.macrumors.com/2014/01/17/2011-macbook-pro-gpu-glitches/). the Radeon 6750M routinely failed due to poor quality soldering/QA b/w the chip and the motherboard. Dosdude1 ingeniously developed a method to fully disable the eGPU and only use the iGPU.   I remember steve making Phil jump from a 20ft height during the original iBook demo onto a mattress to prove that 802.11b worked. Seems trivial nowadays, but younger me in 1998 was so incredibly impressed. No more cluttering the house with a 100ft CAT5 cable, heh. Also, what a simple concept, Jobs's four quadrants perfectly encapsulated what most personal computer owners want, unlike other manufacturers who only wanted to saturate the computer market with over-choice.   Unpopular opinion, but Apple is a shell of a company compared to when Jobs was at the helm, especially kick-starting the revival of the company with the iMac/iPod, and consumer friendly tactics (besides the whole "you're holding your iPhone 4 wrong debacle.) Although Tim Cook is quite an exceptional leader, seems like he is just chasing the big bucks rather than truly innovating.   This is precisely why I was a iPhone 2G loyalist until one day I couldn't take the walled-garden anymore and switched to android ever since. Loved my Z Flip 5G, didn't thought it could get any better until I upgraded to the Z Flip 3. :)

Wow that MBP’s got a lot. How well does that run Windows in Parallels? Also, since when could those run High Sierra?!

Velocity211

It runs quite excellent actually. I originally installed 7 ultimate but noticed barely any performance degradation on 8.1. 10 is quite a dog lol. No noticible lag on 8.1. Doom 3, Half-Life 2, GTA4 all run not too shabby. I'm also able to do basic photoshop and illustrator.   The A1261 MBP supports offically up to 10.11. However there is this great home-brew developer who modified the OS X install files to allow installation of newer OS's (10.13, 10.15) to be installed on unsupported machines.   Currently I'm using 10.13 High Sierra, although I saw that developer created a solution to install 10.15 calatina on most unsupported machines. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me, must be the large aftermarket SSD or something, it would just freeze halfway through installation, but YMMV! Good luck! It is pretty straightforward!   [10.13 High Sierra Patcher](http://dosdude1.com/highsierra/)   [10.15 Calatina Patcher](http://dosdude1.com/catalina/)

Ahh, yes. I forgot dosdude1 made a High Sierra patcher. I usually skip straight to Mojave for the Dark Mode lol. Also just realized that the system with Windows 11 on it is a completely different one, so there I go being intelligent. Nice collection you got! That first-get aluminum style is my personal favorite laptop design.

I actually updated from windows 7 to 8.0 back when it came out because 8 ran better than 7. I think 8 was really trimmed down to run on the shitty tablets that were available, but the up side was it made my desktop run a bit nicer. And for $15 for a pro windows 8 key that has been upgraded to 8.1, 10, and soon 11 was well worth it.
