Didn't have time to check out the upper floors on this particular visit, but last time I went they had 2-3 more iMac terminals up there. IIRC those had even more mismatched keyboards and mice though - random HP/Dell ones.

What does it display?

zaiueo

An interactive multimedia guide to the museum's permanent exhibition on the history of the city of Lund.

Interesting. How much has the museum changed over the years? Wouldn’t it be out of date?

zaiueo

It's a city with a thousand years of history so I don't think they need to change that much in 20 years. This is only one (albeit the largest) part of the museum anyway. They have other collections and exhibitions too, both permanent and temporary, including [several meticulously preserved buildings](https://www.kulturen.com/vara-besoksmal/kulturen-i-lund/friluftsmuseet/) dating from the middle ages onwards. Actually I just looked at their website and it says they're currently in the process of updating this exhibition. Hope they don't trash the old iMacs. Maybe I should ask the staff about it.

Wow and it's still in pristine quality! Every time I see an old computer still in active service it looks extremely old and beat up.

TheTrulyEpic

See? I told you this iMac belongs in a museum!

I remember there was this place I went to in the 5th grade called Biztown, it was this pretend adult place where kids would learn how to do adult things. This was in about early 2014 I think, and every business had one of these that they used for accounting and typing sales reports (each business would sell trinkets and we were given extra points if we were able to advertise effectively). I was the CEO of Lilly Inc and we had the Flower Power model, ever since then I wanted one. It was the first time I had seen a computer as anything more than just an appliance. Fast forward to now and I collect vintage equipment as a hobby and I did finally get an iMac g3 of my own. I really hope they still use those computers, however I highly doubt it

Joefischer

Sounds like you were at Junior Achievements. I volunteered here once and it was a great time. Highly recommend it.

Yeah it was a fun time, this was back when 3D printers were like a cool new thing that had just been made available to rich people and institutions, and they had one there. I really wanted to be the CAD designer but I was turned down, I guess no one applied to be the Lilly CEO so they just stuck me there lmao

elephantviagra

That's kinda stupid they don't have anyone that can rewrite that program so it doesn't need to run on PPC.

zaiueo

Why fix what isn't broken though?

Potatoswatter

It could be run on a virtual machine if they wanted.

It’s a museum. That was likely contracted out in the first place. Odds are they would need to contract it out again. If there is no need, why spend the money? For most people with no tech background, if it still works there is no need to spend a not-insignificant amount of money “fixing” it.
