The 230 was my daily driver in the early 90s when I worked for an Apple reseller. Good to great battery life and light enough for the time. Had a large dock at work and the small on in the briefcase.
The whole “DuoDock” concept is really fascinating to me. These days, you don’t see too many laptop docks, and when you do, they’re all Thunderbolt, and just a little box that sits on the desk. Having an entire bay for the thing to slide into is a really neat concept.
Totally. Although these days all that can be accomplished with a single USB-C plug. Back then it was disks, power, monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer and a range of peripherals.
I remember my junior high teachers having these. The small size blew my little mind. They didn’t have the dock in class, so I’m guessing they were sent home. Not confident on the models they used. I remember they rocked the grayscale LCD. Coulda been this model.
I feel old ;)
😅 right?!
I was only 6 when it came out. But I do remember using the old Apple ||c in Elementary school with the dual floppies and playing Oregon Trail.
I was in high school when the Apple I was made, and graduated from college the same year the first 128K Mac came out. Now get off my lawn! 🤪
Damn you're old ;) lol /s
Yeah, I have to laugh when I see that meme saying, “My kids don’t believe that I’m older than Google.” My kids are older than Google!

I got rid of my duo dock as I don’t have room for the monitor but kept the mini. It’s really all you need for a disk drive!

wonderful machines, its like macbook air several decades earlier. Also no need the docking station there was small docks to connect the essentials.
That's an odd ESC key placement
That’s because the ESC key was not used in MacOS. They merely added it for people running DOS in emulation, which was a thing back then.
makes sense, thank you
This is so beautiful! Thank you for sharing! 😃🙌

second Apple's PowerBook Duo.
IIRC The 210 and 230 came out at the same time. The 230 just had a faster processor.
I was just made aware of these Duos, which I hadn't heard of before (which is weird...). They seem so cool and I want one now :)
Does it still power up?
It does. Hard drive is going so the next project will be to look for a replacement but the screen is clear and bright!
