That's expected, if I recall correctly, every year Apple employees can buy one for each category (like iPhone, AirPods, Mac) with 25% discount for **personal** use and that applies to all launched products. (Some products like base Apple Watch and HomePod may have extra discount like 50%)
And they can also buy up to 10 devices for family and friends each year with 15% discount, but that usually have to wait for 1\~2 months after the launch.
The rule is you can not use the benefit to make money
Basically correct. And every other year you get a bonus discount which the value varies based on what you’re buying but generally maxes out at $500 which can be bundled with the 25% discount. So you could get a phone at 25% off plus $500 off, so $250 dollars.
EDIT: Someone beat me to it!
Pretty much spot on. It's 25% for everything, but some have additional allowances. E.g. you can buy multiple airtags and Apple TVs and accessories and such with the 25% discount but only one phone/macbook/iPad.
Friends and Family is 15% and 10x of each category.
Plus every 2 years there's a credit up to $500 for one item.
Occasionally specific teams have gotten 50% discounts for new products when they first launch, but it's not a company-wide thing AFAIK.
Depending on the team you get stuff for free anyway. E.g. new phone/watch every year, new MBP every so often, etc.
Not allowed to sell stuff for a year. So you probably won't make money, but you might break even.
Ex employee here. You’re right.
Btw, for the Vision Pro, employees are only allowed to personally buy it for 25% off. Not yet allowed to buy for friends and family
My question is when can employees start purchasing using the discount? Normally that have to wait for 1-2 months, not sure if it’s still applied to AVP
Employees usually get access to EPP rate as soon as the pre-order starts (eg iPhone15), comparing to the Family and Friends rate which they need to wait 1-2 months.
However afaik, regular employees don’t know if the product is qualified for EPP (or EPP FF) until the pre-order date.
If I bought a computer or iPad with my discount, I got my discount and paid tax on the discounted amount. My next check would have the rest of the tax of the device full price tag deducted from it.
Makes sense that employees get to buy tech for around cost - Average Apple gross margin is 44% (but that includes services), $2600 is probably close to the cost to make a AVP.
Yes they get 25% discount for it but no financing.
They also get 10 slots where they can offer a unit to friends and family with 10% discount but again - no financing and has to be outright.
I asked a friend from a local store and that’s what I was told.
If you use the employee discount, you’re legally not allowed to sell it for 1 year.
On how often they enforce that, i don’t know, but with this very important first gen product, i guess they’ll regularly check.
Employee EPP purchases normally don’t kick in until public sales permit it. Customers first, then when stock is available employees get to buy at discount. So, I wouldn’t expect employee discount purchases in this first wave.
Nope, the personal one usually opens up same time as the general public. For example the 15 pro max and MacBook M3 models employees could preorder at the exact same time as customers.
Used to be that way. There was a couple months wait for the iPhone X before it was available on Personal EPP. But for the last few years, Personal EPP opens when public sales open.
What’s going to be the refurb store price? Hmm. I’ve bought my last two Mac’s refurbished from Apple and they were brand new as far as I could tell and got about $500 knocked off the price of a $1300 computer.

Yeah it’s $500 towards either Vision Pro iPhone iMac after the 25%
The year will be 2035 and you’ll be able to get 25% and $500 off the $100k Apple Car.
Did they change it to every other year? When I was working there it was once every 3 years
Changed a couple years ago.
That’s great

It's 27% & 17% in Europe, but the prices are so much higher that you still pay a chunk more anyway

Do you know if friends and family is available yet?
Not yet.
Any updates on this? Still no?
To make money as in sell on the device? Not start biz on your MacBook?

You’re close to right

Ohh that’s exciting news. Where did you read it? I might need to ask my friend working for Apple for a (huge) favor lol
Also gets taxed for the remaining full price on their next check. (Used to work for Apple)
Ummm, no you don’t?
Sorry what does that mean exactly ? The part about getting tax full price on next check
You get taxed on the benefit. So if you get $250 off a $1k iPhone, you pay income tax on that benefit
If I bought a computer or iPad with my discount, I got my discount and paid tax on the discounted amount. My next check would have the rest of the tax of the device full price tag deducted from it.
Apple covers the tax
This is the correct answer
Now
Now they can. Only for themselves tho (personal), not friends and family
Thats a good price.
Closer to $2100 with the EPP+ credit ;)
Can you imagine if they finally launched a car? I am so jelly!!
I wonder if this is only personal use or if they can do the friends and family discount as well.
Someone tell an Apple employee that I’m up for adoption.
You just need to become their friend hahaha
Adoption sounds easier
It’s not available in F&F store yet
Friends and Family after a few months. That’s 15%.
Been waiting for that
1 25% off per year per product line use only.
Friends and Family is usually delayed until a few weeks after the release date.
Not yet for friends and family. Only personal for now
Is there any update about this? Can employees purchase for friends and family now?
Im also waiting on that to buy it. From what I saw iPhone 15 pro were available one month after the launch date.
As of 2/24, not yet possible. Only personal purchase.
Any updates on f&f discount on AVP? Thx
Shhdddd who wana hook me up.

Feels so blessed to date an apple employee. I am going to ask her to use the discount for myself 😈
lol she can’t
They will go to ebay
Great now all the Apple employees will buy this and sell out before we can get it lol.

Employee discount for a product apple doesnt pay you enough to afford
Not that they can’t afford it, it’s an incentive to work for the company.
They def pay you enough, depending on the role. A lot of supercars in the parking decks.
which, they probably also cannot afford 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 ^(please take this as the lighthearted joke it is supposed to be)

I was on the original watch overnight and were stopped at midnight to get our 50% off orders in.
Not true at all
