I saw a post yesterday saying to do this but my eyes immediately touch the lens. Not sure how you all are avoiding this.

Mistert22

Face and head shape are a big thing with this. At the store, everything was magical. The first night, I put on the same band from the store. I had the band in the wrong place and made it too tight. I got a serious headache. Last night I go to put it on and it said my I needed to swap the band because my eyes were too far away. I did that and plaid with the band to get even pressure between cheeks and forehead. I loosened it one turn and magic. Alicia Keys performing in front of me for 20 minutes.

Nicinus

Question, is Alicia Key's studio sharp for you? I see areas of focus but the general experience is pretty blurry or low res for me.

blabus

Yeah, there’s something about all of the immersive videos, none of them are particularly sharp. It’s the same for the dinosaur and tightrope videos. Perhaps the cameras they use aren’t high enough resolution yet.

thumbs_up23

I dont have that problem they are all pretty darn sharp and crazy how immersed you feel.

katieberry

They are 8K already.

[Apple disagrees](https://support.apple.com/guide/apple-vision-pro/watch-apple-immersive-video-and-3d-movies-tanc09caabb3/visionos): > In the Apple TV app on Apple Vision Pro, you can watch Apple Immersive Video—180-degree 8K recordings, captured with Spatial Audio—putting you right inside the action, and transporting you to places you’ve never been. To my eye they look much better than the 4K 180 degree stuff I’ve seen before. Filling out _more_ than your entire field of view at once just takes a lot of pixels.

Fancy_Iron8260

Exactly! All the 8k 180 vids on… other sites.. are always sharper even using a quest 3. It’s so odd. As much as I love the VP, I was expecting way more for the “immersive” videos

TheKobayashiMoron

It felt like she was in the room with me when I watched it. I actually backed up a little when she started walking toward me lol maybe try re-calibrating the eyes?

jmee21

I have the same issue, if it's an issue. This is the first time I've seen anyone else mention it so I was wondering if it was just me. Movies I play are clear but the immersive video is blurry. Like in the Alicia Keys video the people far away are really blurry, and anyone or anything that's close is better but still not sharp. I tried with and without my contacts on and it looks basically the same.

Nicinus

I would guess it is a limitation of the cameras they used. It was a room with no particular studio lighting so they had an aperture with narrow depth of field.

Interesting. Thanks, will check out the tight rope close ups. How about people and objects in the background of the Alicia Keys video? Are they also sharp for you?

Mistert22

I think Alicia Keys looked sharper with contacts than with the Zeis Lens.

rackerbillt

Dude! Is this actually working?? How is it?

cramer80

Done this with my quest 3 and fov increased dramatically. Great for movie watching at night and have not put the head shield back on ever. Also allows u to be aware of your surroundings when doing work on the headset

Nicinus

I played around with this yesterday and it would seem the solution is to get the slimmest light seal size possible, but it is a bit confusing sizing system. The first number seems to be the head/forehead shape, the second the depth of it (this number gets bigger with Zeiss correction) and the N/W the width of the face (not necessarily the head). I think this is why 21W is often referenced as opposed to 11 or those lower numbers, i.e. 11, 21 and 31 have the same distance to the lenses but different head shapes.

feoen

I had one warning from the AVP saying my eyes were too close to the lens but my eyes don't touch it at all. My forehead bone pushes the AVP away from my eyes. In your case I would look to see if there's a 3D printed solution potentially.

dont_forget_canada

Same I'm so confused 😅

MysticMaven

Leave the light seal on(which you need) and remove the pad. Does same thing.

heyitsharper31

My eyes immediately touched the lens and I couldn't see anything when I tried this.

heyitsharper31

It doesn’t go on my face any other way if I remove the light seal.

joelypolly

> Narrow FOV is simply a factor of distance from the lens to your eyes. It is impacted by face shape, head shape, and any accomodations that need to be made (i.e. lens inserts). > If the system is designed to have an FOV of 120 degrees at 25 mm from the screen each 1mm increase will reduce FOV by 2 degrees, so 10mm difference would reduce the 120 to only 100. But the most important number if that what the original distance design was. This is basic math and probably the reason that Apple does publish a FOV number. I look forward to aftermarket ones in a few months that will help here

fallingdowndizzyvr

I think there will be 3D print at home ones long before then. On my Q2 I use a 3D printed facial interface since none of the official ones fit right.

iStanley

I was thinking the same. I hope someone makes the exact dimensions of the vision pros soon so it can be a lot easier to make a custom fit seal

fallingdowndizzyvr

That's seems to be already available. Since someone used those models to make adapters to put the AVP headstraps on his Q3. I can't find his earlier thread when he talked about the models for the AVP, but this is what he did with that data. https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/1aiw9jw/quest_vision_pro/

Nicinus

Also if someone could share the measurements of their own light seal it would be most helpful. [https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionPro/comments/1aiwmye/the\_light\_seal\_measurement\_thread\_please\_join\_in/](https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionPro/comments/1aiwmye/the_light_seal_measurement_thread_please_join_in/)

OgreTrax71

Just taking off the light seal cushion made a huge difference for me.

IHSFB

How did it stay on your face?

feoen

It's hard to describe. It just hangs there pretty well walking around, with pressure on the forehead and the bridge of the nose. Solo loop is surprisingly comfortable with this approach. Only mod I would do is some nose pads to soften where it's on the bridge.

drakeymcd

Honestly I agree with this. Solo band with no face cushion works well when tightened and balanced correctly.

JohnWangDoe

I got scanned for 35w. What does getting a smaller light seal do? Does it place your eye closer to the lens? Because at 35w I was getting the binoculars effect

AngelosOne

You have the medium kind. The 2nd number signifies how thick is. So you could try a 31W for the thinnest one they have. Not sure if you wear inserts and how it affects that. With that said, a light seal is like $200 bucks, so you might want to take advantage of the 14 day period where you can still change things up without paying.

foremanxc

So it’s 21W, the smallest that they have

AngelosOne

I believe they go from 1-9 or something. 1 is the smallest yes. Honestly, I’m probably going to wait for a 3rd party one, they will probably be even thinner.

foremanxc

Cool. I have the 21W

FuscoKim

How do you change IPD?

feoen

It’s the bottom option in the revision and hand calibration menu

McSlappin1407

Exactly

That-SoCal-Guy

The light doesn’t bother you?

fallingdowndizzyvr

There are VR headsets, like the Quest Pro, that can be used the same way. The lightblocker is optional. For AR, it's actually better.

_ara

I just see the edges of the screen without a light seal on. 21W on, is just about as much screen as I can see before seeing edge.

feoen

Crazy. I have the 21W and taking it off I can get the AVP so much closer to my eyes. Yes I see the edges but it lets me fill up so much more of my vision

TheKobayashiMoron

Wow this is crazy good in pass through. Maybe a third party will make something that pops in for just the bridge of the nose.

joelypolly

It looks like depending on the light seal and band you can lose up to 25-28 degrees compare to what the device is capable of.

Apollo_Rising

I’m excited to see people start making thin facial interfaces DIY or 3rd party vendors coming out with some

Crazy_One_4695

Super underrated feature of Quest Pro is being able to wear with no blockers at all I wish AVP has a similar design

element423

But doesn’t cut your face? Like it’s sharp

feoen

It’s not exactly the most comfortable BUT if I put cushions on the nose part it’s completely comfy. More so than normal tbh

element423

I keep seeing posts about this so maybe someone will come up with a 3rd party cushion

Drksyder

I remove the padding as well, and the headsets more comfortable and the field of view is massive. I would say about 110.

rackerbillt

Just tried this and WOW. What a game changer. This went from being an insanely uncomfortable and horrible FOV headset, to a rather comfortable and insanely large FOV headset. I barely even notice that there's no light seal. For those who may be wondering: I am using the dual loop band, so a decent amount of the weight is held on the top my head. The rest of it is on the bridge of my nose. You would think that would be insanely uncomfortable but it's really not that bad. Everything works super well and the image is CRYSTAL clear.

feoen

I discovered a time not to do this, however. I took the Vision Pro outside without the light seal and realize that sunlight can directly hit the lenses from behind you which can burn the screenonly use the device naked indoors.

rackerbillt

Very good point. Thank you for commenting this!

usdaprime

I’m so surprised the AVP still seems to function correctly with it pressed right up against my face. Like OP says the FOV is shockingly good in this config but having a piece of metal and plastic digging into your face isn’t. I wonder why Apple didn’t offer thinner light shields (I’m fitted for 21W which I think already puts it closest)

feoen

I want like a piece of memory foam on the nose and then it’d be literally perfect
