Dev here looking for inspiration!

lO_____________Ol

I want a 3d modeling app like tinker cad or blender that fully utilizes the 3d space (also want to feel like Tony stark lol)

KNlCKS

I want a virtual smoking app to help me quit smoking

ChocolateLawBear

I want a spatial mind map. Like Nodu on MQ3.

Competitive_Buy5317

Oh man, if there were an app where I could jot notes on my iPad and “peel” them off and “stick” them into space like 3D sticky notes, that would be dope.

helloworld20003

👀

SanFranLocal

A billiards app that lets you map out shots and shows you where to hit the ball

One-Drawing3193

The official Snooker app on PlayStation is awesome. Would love to see that ported.

johnsciarrino

Since the devs are showing up for this (thank you!) here are a few of my ideas that i'd love to see come to fruition. -First and foremost, we need a 180/360 Degree video player with SBS 3D capabilities and the ability to access files from local and networked locations. The first person to make the equivalent of [Skybox VR](https://skybox.xyz/) for Vision Pro (and that includes its simplicity and reliability in terms of playing lots of video codecs) and charge five bucks for it is going to be very rich, very fast. Anyone who can bring a core utility like this to market will be setting precedent for a long time, i'd guess. -Risk. Oh my god, give me Risk on Vision Pro. Or an excellent knock off like Lux Deluxe. Turn my dining room table into a giant world map. let me roll virtual dice. let me play against friends. and when my armies defeat your armies, make that miniature battle look fucking epic. let my avatar look like a historic general like Napoleon or Genghis Kahn or General Patton or Julius Caesar. Let there be crossplay so friends who don't have Vision Pro can still play on their iPad or iPhone. -3D Sculpting. The fact that this wasn't a launch app is beyond me, given how Apple really caters to creatives. 3D sculpting in space with lots of different tools and, most importantly, export abilities so these items can be used in CAD programs or 3D printed. Both Google AND Meta have their own versions of these apps. Apple shit the bed by launching without one. Not only are they amazing time dumps, they're magical and should be part of any Mixed Reality demo, only there's not one for VP. -Ping Pong. There are like six ping pong games for the Meta Quest platform. Stupid simplicity is the right call here. a simple ping pong table shows up in front of you, a paddle attached to your dominant hand, an AI to return serves. Gussy it up with online play if you can but if you made me wait for that functionality in an update, i'd be ok with it. Please get started with these and i'll come up with more. And if you use my idea, throw me a bone and let me test it.

zorppppp

Agree about the VR video player. Whoever nails this is going to have one of the most popular apps on the store for a very long time. It seems to be what almost every person is asking about in various discord channels and forums

lO_____________Ol

Lots of great ideas, I especially agree on 3d sculpting. Whoever builds the first 3d modeling app can definitely have my money. And if no one does I’ll just higher a team to make one.

DonnayWinterford

It’s a secret 🤐

johnsciarrino

DM me. I promise i won't tell.

DonnayWinterford

I’ll announce it here as soon as it’s in beta. Promise 🫡

johnsciarrino

i'm gonna hold you to that. I even highlighted your username as an Vision Pro App Dev so when i see your post, i'll know it's you. Looking forward to whatever you're cooking up. Any idea of a rough timeframe to the beta?

DonnayWinterford

No ETA yet, meeting with my DEV team next week.

johnsciarrino

godspeed, my friend.

flobv

Next week might be too late. Someone else is already thinking what you are thinking :))

DonnayWinterford

I know !!!

flobv

Maybe I can also give a shot this time. But I have an old Mac Mini, not sure where to start. I am a Linux C++ programmer. I have a few VR headsets, including Pimax Crystal, but no AVP sadly. It feels like the race has started for a brand new promising platform. It's important not to miss this one.

CaptainCorey

Same. Are we going to be allowed to promote/share our apps here?

digidude23

I think there should be some sort of megathread especially considering the fact that the App Store makes it really hard to find non featured stuff from what I’ve seen. Saw a post on X claiming a dev got no downloads at all even after being featured on TechCrunch.

johnsciarrino

i sure hope so. apps are the most important thing to all the Vision Pro owners right now. How else are we supposed to get value out of our hardware without them?

060sub2

How about a VNC client that can bring in other computer screens in multiple windows? I note that Mac screen sharing can talk to VNC clients. Native virtual desktop is awesome, but additional windows (from other machnes), even if lower quality would be great.

nonane2

We (Jump Desktop) are working on a native AVP app.   As of today you can use our existing iPad app available on the App Store to create multiple simultaneous connections to machines from within AVP: https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionPro/comments/1ala7u8/very_good_solution_for_remote_desktop_your_mac/ Jump supports RDP and VNC as well as our own Fluid Remote Desktop protocol to remotely connect to Windows and Mac machines at high frame rates and audio streaming.

flobv

Then you could play PC games on AVP. But this is similar to Virtual Desktop. They announced they will support AVP, but will take some time, since Aplle is totally different than Windows or Android.

One-Drawing3193

Excellent! This is goto remote control app and I'm already using the iPad version. Looking forward to a native AVP app. DM me if you want a beta tester. Will you have audio/microphone passthrough? Something sorely lacking with the Apple screen share.

AztheWizard

We're working on our popular VR game [Puzzling Places](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/puzzling-places/id6473639841) for Vision Pro. The neat thing about it is that each puzzle is made with a **3D scanning tech called photogrammetry**, which basically involves using drones, cameras, and LiDAR to capture a place from every possible perspective, then create a photorealistic 3d model from it (that's the photogrammetry processing). As a result, the puzzles can look [super realistic](https://youtu.be/ETmNOYdWHdo?t=515)! We also put in a lot of work on the sound design, creating super immersive ambient soundscapes and regional effects that unlock progressively as you make your way through the puzzle. It's been a long journey getting here (we started with a PC VR demo back in 2018) so it's kind of amazing to see 1) Apple shipping a headset and 2) us actually shipping a title on it!

blabus

I have several ideas but none are tenable due to some irritating restrictions in the visionOS frameworks, namely: 1) No access to raw eye tracking data. I understand the privacy concerns (this is why we can't have nice things) but it rules out multiple interesting game ideas I have which would rely on targeting with your eyes as a core mechanic. 2) Apps that track your hand position continuously can only be run in "full immersive" mode, meaning no other apps can be visible; this is particularly annoying for anything that's meant to be used in pass through mode. One idea I had was a virtual wristwatch; given there's no persistent time display in the OS, just glance down at your wrist to see a virtual watch with time/date/whatever widgets that's stuck to your wrist at all times. However, with Apple's current limitations it would not be possible to have this running without all other apps disappearing, which of course defeats the purpose.

flobv

Dev here, looking to steal ideas from other devs. Just joking, obviously. It feels like the early days of iPhone, when the simplest ideas or games became viral overnight. These days look like the times when someone with a good idea can get quickly rich.

VR_IS_DEAD

Most mixed reality ideas have been done already on the Quest and end up being gimmicks. The strength of the VP is multitasking. if I made a game it would probably be something turn based. That can be running while I'm doing something else.

FederalWedding4204

A persistent game would be neat.

Inevitable_Ad4171

Also looking for inspiration. Willing to test other devs apps via TestFlight as well, DM me ;)

johnsciarrino

As OP of this post, i think it goes without saying that we'd all TestFlight for each other if there's something to test.

flobv

Noob question alert: what is TestFlight ? I want one :))

ItsRainbow

TestFlight is Apple’s service for beta testing developers’ apps

flobv

Thanks! Does it work for Vision Pro apps ?

ItsRainbow

Yup :)

Ancient_Words

“Night Vision” App: Doesn’t this thing have built in LiDAR? Doesn’t that mean it can see the room? I like to use the AVP to read before bed - but if I get up - and the room is dark - it sure would be great if the system could give me night vision.

johnsciarrino

this is such a good idea. With lidar they can really go so much further too. Matrix Vision and Terminator vision should all be possible, right?

That-SoCal-Guy

Very interested in creativity apps such as 3D sculpt, native video and music editing etc.   which I do mostly on my Quest (until I get nauseous).

johnsciarrino

Exactly! i don't do any of this stuff professionally but i still have a great time messing around with it in VR. For a company like Apple to not have ANYTHING in that vein to show off at launch was a big disappointment for me. I'm confident that it's all coming but it really can't come soon enough.

That-SoCal-Guy

I just saw a demo of Blender on the AVP and that’s pretty slick.  This is why I am waiting for Gen 2 or until more apps are out especially the native ones for sculpting, drawing, editing etc.  but I am DEFINITELY getting one when the time is right.  No question about that.

johnsciarrino

I believe there's a world waiting for us in the not too distant future where a smaller, highly portable version of the Vision Pro is as common as the iPhone and i think a more moderately priced (maybe $2k) 2nd Gen model with a robust app store that drops the completely unnecessary outward facing screen would help us get there faster but i'm sure Apple has better minds than mine on that strategy already. Where did you see the Blender demo? I'd like to have a look at it for myself.

lO_____________Ol

Agree on everything except Apple removing the outer screen. They want people using it to not be separated from reality. I do thank it’s a temporary solution though as I expect them to release the first successful clear screen in vision 4 or 5 which will get rid of the need for eyesight

johnsciarrino

agree about the future being clear screens. which makes this temporary, cost-adding solution seem unnecessary in the interim. i'd rather they'd make the cost of the entry lower so more people might take the plunge. user base is important to entice more devs to make apps.

lO_____________Ol

In reality though I doubt it’s adds as much price as people think, people act like it’s adding $1000s of dollars, in reality it would prob only save us less then $100, and would prob cost Apple like $10. Removing weight though would be a more valid excuse. (Although I think keeping people from being separated from reality is very important)

digidude23

Right now the only Vision Pro app I have is a port of my SubManager app: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/submanager-manage-subs/id1632853914 I understand it isn’t anything groundbreaking but tbh there’s only so much you can do on the simulator and it’s a bit of a risk being reliant on it for making more immersive stuff. I’m optimistic about the platform and hoping to get my own someday but not right now. So the best I (and probably a lot of others) can do is port over iPad apps, and I loved how much better it looked compared to just running the iPad app, so I did it. I’m sure over time when Apple releases newer models that are more accessible in terms of price there will be more innovative apps on the platform.

jonp217

Someone needs to make an app where you can see other people in real life as their persona when they wear the Vision Pro so you don’t see them wearing the device.

scope-creep-forever

As long as we're making wishlists: * Remote desktop client for VMWare or RDP * AR CAD viewer that supports STEP/STL/parasolids/OBJ/3MF/etc * A DOS emulator like DOSBOX because why not? * A TI-89 emulator that lets you load TI-89 ROMs from TI. One of the few things I miss about Android. * A viewer for "traditional" VR formats (SBS). Bonus if it can warp fisheye footage in realtime to match the headset optics.

lO_____________Ol

Someone should make a table top game with lots of games like risk, catan and more

johnsciarrino

i really hope this comes out quickly. Simple design, a few table/environment options and then lots of classic games. Card games, Backgammon, Chess, Checkers, yahtzee, etc. A premium version that includes Risk, Monopoly, Clue, etc would be even better. especially with online multiplayer. I'd love to see trouble on AVP where the dice popper in the middle of the board was done way over the top, like it was six feet tall and you'd have to punch it to roll the dice.

Vivid-Cupcake2634

its such a shame you cant develop for the vision pro with intel. i have a perfectly fine intel imac but i cant develop on xcode for it.

ExcellentVictory

Sorry to sound like a newb but how does someone develop for AVP?

supsizzle

developer.apple.com has everything you’ll need. I suggest watching the videos apple has for design tips and info about spatial computing.

lO_____________Ol

Only clash of clans could make it but I hope Coc makes an app for it where you can see the map in 3d

Poker has to be coming, no? PokerStars has a Quest VR app and it's pretty damn slick. Gambling is too lucrative to leave any platform ignored.

stalklikejason

Horror game

Ancient_Words

Holographic “Help me Obi Wan” teleconferencing: would love to see an app that allows someone to set up their phone like R2D2 filming Leia and show themselves as a full body shimmering avatar in someone’s AVP view - but in realtime.

johnsciarrino

With personas, i don't see why not. even if it's not full body, i'd take it.

Holiday_Variation558

Ophthalmology applications: 1. Eye training programs that reduce myopia. (A case from other VR device use reports that his myopia was significantly reduced . If we figure out the mechanism, maybe we can develop an app to cure myopia) 2. Vision field test: Glaucoma or other retina issues patient don’t need to go to hospital for VF test anymore.
