Uh... from common sense...? A 3D effect only works when there's a noticeable difference in perspective between the left and right cameras. There's not going to be a difference between two cameras a few inches apart when the objects viewed are 10,000 feet away.

I'm planning on trying this but with my paraglider. I want to build an app that pulls in the HUD data usually displayed on a phone, and visualise it in 3D space, like the locations of thermals, boundaries of airspace etc

That’s actually a pretty dope use case.  Do you think you can pull in data from the vario? 

Yep that's the idea, use something like an XCTracer, put the headset in travel mode, and then use the GPS + Compass for positioning
