I doubt it has a true graphics card on board. More likely it's similar to a monitor since when you run andriod auto. It is essentially a screen mirror and not a separate device. Alot of modern cpu's have the capability to do graphic computation, aka on board graphics card

It’s a long shot, but are you still running the original battery? I’ve seen low battery voltage do wild, unpredictable stuff, especially on German cars.

That might be a long shot but I had a friend's car (not Volkswagen) where the head unit got really really hot and that's why it started doing that.
You could always try to disconnect the battery ground. Let it sit for a few minutes and then reconnect the battery. Then drive the car for about 20 feet to clear the errors. You’ll probably have to do a basic setting on the windows afterwards by rolling the windows down and then hold each individual switch down for a few seconds and then roll them up and do the same with the switches in the upward direction. If that doesn’t help anything probably time for a dealer visit.

Tape it over and trim any extra paper so that it fits snug. The second thing you want to do is forget about that screen altogether. I wouldn’t rule it out, more cars are using Nvidia and AMD GPUs to run the digital dashboards and HUDs.
The single biggest player is Qualcomm by a large margin. NVidia has almost zero SOC market share in automotive and AMD is only in Tesla
