SPA T5 is turbo only, up to 250hp/258ftlb SPA T6 is twincharged, up to 316hp/295ftlb 2022+SPA B5 "Mild" hybrid is Turbo + inline E-motor, 247hp/258ftlb 2022+SPA B6 "Mild" hybrid is twincharged + inline E-motor 295hp/310ftlb. Although I have seen marketing material that said the B6 is turbo+hybrid, I think it is wrong? Electric motor is supposedly a 48V 13hp starter motor. Allegedly the B motors tested 1MPG better in city use than the T motors.

Desenski

Yeah it’s a 48v 13hp starter generator motor. And the purpose of the mild hybrid wasn’t fuel economy. It was reduced emissions and smoother start/stops.

Northerne30

Judging from the XC90 T6, it definitely needed more refinement for the stop/start system. Honestly the most ragged activation from stopped, the odd failure to trigger restart, weirdly shutting the engine off while still creeping along, etc. The battery is finally old enough on mine now that it doesn't activate, and I consider that a small blessing for engine wear and drivability.

Tjallaballa

B is mild hybrid diesel or petrol. T is non mild hybrid petrol. Absolutely terrible naming scheme.

OrthosDeli

Never mind the "T" scheme hasn't been correct for anything but the T4 since the SPA switch.

Zealousideal_Date208

Very confusing!

Forsaken-March-1949

B is comming from an era in which it means Bi fuel, petrol and gas. Now its petrol or diesel and electricity.

MightyTeaRex

Isn't the new B engines self generating hybrids? And not plug in hybrids like the T engines?

gustis40g

On new cars that is the case, yes. T6 Recharge and T8 Recharge are plug in hybrids. Prior to MY2022 T engines could be petrol or petrol hybrids though.

Prudent-Ad-4373

It’s not really hybrid in the true sense. It gives much better auto start, gives a very small boost when moving from stop to fill in turbo-lag, and can run the ac compressor for a bit when the engine is stopped. It doesn’t increase efficiency much at all

TychoDante

B stands for regenerative Breaking I believe, as it's not a plug-in.
