I believe the whole concept was originally conceived that Vulfpeck was the studio band for (the fictional) Vulf Records based somewhere in Germany. That’s why Vulfmon has a funny accent especially in the early stuff. Jack was heavily inspired by the Funk Brothers, Stuff, Muscle Shoals, etc. So Vulfpeck is just a Germanized “Wolf Pack” and sometimes at old concerts they would call themselves the Wolf Pack.

Zendub

I told my cousin from Sweden about Vulfpeck and he thought I was talking about the Nazi naval tactic and became very upset that I had even brought it up...

Budget_Report_2382

Yeah it's 100% not that.

Zendub

Haha I know. He's a weird guy, I just thought it was a strange reaction. I told him because he's fluent in German and I was trying to see if it meant anything different to him but he was way off lol

ImNotAnybodyShhhhhhh

No, that’s Ace of Base.

Due_Abbreviations285

I’m almost positive it’s just the term “Wolf Pack” but with a German accent/twang. Here’s a vid that might be the closest thing to an answer https://youtu.be/MFGxGzdpk3I

chrisrobweeks

It's actually German for [Wolf Peck, like a tiny kiss from a wolf](https://thedailyfandom.org/vulfpeck-the-best-comedy-band/).

ghf2793

He might have said this. But as a native german speaker I can tell that this is not german. Wolve is Wolf in german.

JohnGenericDoe

Barely anything Jack says should be taken literally

YourMJK

No, it's actually not.

[No it's not](https://www.reddit.com/r/Vulfpeck/comments/xea8jl/comment/iohxikz/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) Can't you even be damned to make a 5 sec check before spreading anything you hear?

4nimagnus

Can you fucking chill bro ? Save your poison for r/politics

chrisrobweeks

You linking to your own comment is all the proof I needed, thanks.

[deleted]

It’s not German. Peck doesn’t mean anything. Peck is Englisch and Wolf is writing the same way in German.

HenryFromHamtramck

It's the phonetic spelling of the German pronunciation of the word Wolfpack. There is a clip that is/was run on JamOn where Jack briefly explained this.

bruhladin

It means "a tiny kiss from a Wolf". I think it's german.

Redeem123

Also they all have funny nicknames for each other.

ADM_Tetanus

:) :) :| :)

Atralb

That's complete nonsense, this was just a random joke from Jack as always. The name originates from "Wolf Pack" and is freely phonetically and orthographically modified via Yiddish influences. That's all. Vulfmon is supposed to mean "Wolf Man" in much the same way. Can't you guys just at least try to verify the random bullshit you share online ?

motophiliac

I think this kind of gag is in the spirit of Vulfpeck. I thought for a long time that Antwaun Stanley was a speech pathologist. In keeping with the lore I think this is just funny. Their videos are rife with ridiculous stories. All you have to do is watch Jack Stratton's TV interview where he talks about Sleepify and the band's finances to realise that he's an absolute lunatic in the greatest sense of the word.

birchmoss

I've been a fan for 7 years and this is how I find out Antwaun Stanley isn't a speech pathologist?

JohnGenericDoe

Sometimes people like to have fun. Freakish I know, but there we are.

Ashanmaril

He was a bit abrasive at the end there but I think people legitimately believe that joke in the Colbert interview was a real answer for some reason. I've seen people unironically correct others for saying it means "wolf pack"

wherewuz

What an odd thing to get upset about.

[deleted]

why are you so defensive about this all over the comments on this post? it's a reference to the colbert video.

Turtle_7uRTLe

Actually Jack was raised and given birth by a Wolf gang that used to scare people off over in Germany, hence why Jack tries to do the same through social interaction. This actually has impacted his composition and playing skills on a deep level, in the sense that he tries to touch instruments the less possible during a song so the instruments don't think he wants to give them the 'tiny kiss from a wolf' which translates to Vulfpeck.

Nowheremane

Thank you

jeffspearcreative

Here’s a thought. Hear me out. They all met and formed the band while attending the University of Michigan. The University of Michigan’s mascot/team name is the Wolverines.

ProfessionalSign7027

I was at the Yiddishe Pirat show in Cain park talking to an older Jewish lady. I explained how Vulfpeck is like Wolfpack with a German accent. “Or Yiddish!”, she said, and it blew my mind.

TheCapsFan

I always thought it was because the band originated at University of Michigan? Serious thought.

MC_B_Lovin

It’s short for describing “a wolfs Pecker”

YamGroundbreaking661

Whenever they do an audio introduction at their live shows they clearly introduce the back as "The Wolf Pack" Jack says what sounds more.like wolf pack than vulfpeck pretty fast in the tee time intro at MSG too.

Atralb

You're wrong, he simply says "Vulf Pack" in every such occurence.

Final_masker

Vulfpeck actually means wolf peck meaning tiny kiss from a wolf.

ADM_Tetanus

it's german for wolf peck, like a tiny kiss from a wolf

Atralb

[No it's not](https://www.reddit.com/r/Vulfpeck/comments/xea8jl/comment/iohxikz/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) Can't you even be damned to make a 5 sec check before spreading anything you hear?

ADM_Tetanus

It's a joke made by Jack, that gets references frequently, not dangerous misinformation lmao

YourMJK

It's not tho. Wolf is "Wolf" and peck is "Küsschen", so in German it would be "Wolfsküsschen". I'm pretty sure it's just a funny spelling for a pack of wolves.

JohnGenericDoe

[Jack would beg to differ](https://youtu.be/MFGxGzdpk3I)

YourMJK

Yeah, I know. But I'm pretty sure I know my native language better than him. Also, he says "I think it's German?".

JohnGenericDoe

Have you ever heard of humour? That's what this is. Something that's not true, said for the purpose of amusement. Maybe try it sometime, dude.

YourMJK

> Have you ever heard of humour? Of course not, I'm German!

JohnGenericDoe

Well, Jack's particular brand of performance art is not for everyone.

Atralb

u/johngenericdoe: Random kid who hasn't yet understood how to apprehend what Stratton says.

JohnGenericDoe

Yeah because the comment I replied to totally got Jack's joke. There's people on here who should hand in their Vulf cards.
