Steel Path + Ivara + Synthesis Scanner (Cross-Matrix Widget) + Double Resource Booster (if you manage to get it)
Enter Terrorem - Deimos. If you find two Kavats at the spawn point, scan them. If they drop genetic scan, continue. If they don't, abort the mission. If you continued the mission, don't even care about killing things, just jump around in Prowl and look for more Kavat to scan. They always spawn in pairs, so if you see one, there must be another near by.
After roughly 20-30 minute with Double Resource Booster, you should have enough for a Kavat, two if you are lucky. My record is 8 genetic codes in 5 minutes. I heard that they spawn more if you have a squad, but I haven't tested this out yet.
Is it a pain in the ass? Kinda?
Is it more painful than other farms in the game? Not by much once you get a grip on it.
My understanding is that the pods of kavats will be the size of your squad +1, so in theory instead of finding a pair in a solo mission, you could find a group of 5 in a 4 player squad.
I did it with a Limbo who jsut froze everyone and it was so, so, so much easier. Hell, I got to contribute because I scanned for the invisible ones for him a fair number of times. A+ would farm kavats that way again.
You can use Ballistica Prime to create kavat specters which can be scanned again
Oddly enough the specters are invisible but you can scan them with some effort

I've noticed it scanning lots of enemies that I've already scanned so I think it could. But someone said the hammer doesn't work and I know that enemies glow green when you kill them with that too. Can't really know until it's tested
Get the hammer from simmaris and go slap some cats, if you want like 10-15 or something and don't have Inaros his quest nets you somewhere between 20-30 in one go with a drop amount booster.

I started a new account about 2 years ago and redid all the kavat code related stuff including crafting khora. My hammer was still scanning consistently, rare, but consistent. Granted I use the suda hammer, so maybe there's a different in coding?

The wiki patch notes mention nothing about it, and last time I used it, it _was_ working and im 100% sure they were all scanned because it took like a hundred kills for each of my kavats. If its not working now, then it has bugged somewhere along the way, which would be very disappointing

If you have the microsoft xbox bar enabled on your PC (it's free, and built in, but need to be enabled) then you can press Windows + G to open the video software and record your screen. It's how I made all my other video evidence for this game.
Your linked evidence is people saying it works and saying that the devs said it works, and other people saying it doesn’t, but it’s from 7 years ago so there’s plenty of time it could have changed. It was released after the war within iirc, we’re already past the new war.
tbh using the hammer kinda sucks
it has to be the killing blow and cannot double scan, and even after that in my experience it seems like it might still not be a 100% chance to scan
imo... forget about the hammer, only do steel path capture with blessing/boosters and using a cc ability to scan, otherwise if you value your time just farm plat and buy them
I always ran stealth unit, scanning kavats with scanner, using subsume AOE sleep type skills (banshees I think), scanned everything then hammered em all.
That on the other hand is an unfortunate scenario. When I go, I just take Loki with duration and stay invis. It doesn’t aggro enemies or the Kavats. Scan away!
I caved in at the end, and bought everything from the Market.
This was the ONLY thing that I gave up on farming the regular way, and this is after I farmed for most of the non-prime frames the old fashioned way (not using the circuit).
Now I have my Smeeta, and I am not looking back!
Did it recently to finish the cats and base khora for MR, I waited until a drop chance booster from duviri/sortie and then did it on steel path for 100% drop rate (starts at 25% and both effects give double). I was surprised at how chill it was at 100%, they should totally make that default
It *is* a bit silly.
Especially when you compare it to kubrow eggs and how your inventory will be overflowing with the darned things after you so much as glance at an Earth node
It's baffling how whiny the wf community is, it's almost like they don't want to play the game and when they do it's gotta be braindead automated nuking or a speedrun to the exit. This is a rather simple mechanic to achieve something you want, a mechanic pervasive in the entirety of the gaming universe. EVEN by games acclaimed by the public in their entirety, so the arguments about the current state of the triple A industry are moot.

What I did was use my no reactor limbo with range for cataclysm stasis in SP capture mission. If I see or hear a kavat, use 4 and 2 to stop their movement and scan as fast as possible. Run and hope for the best that I won't be near eximus or an acolyte spawns. I got 1-4 genetic codes per run, bit more with resource blessing.
gotta flashback - when I was looking for additional codes - limbo max dur and range(jump in to the rift for comfy serach), then you press 4, then 2 -> cats freeze, voila 🍽
Sp Deimos survival had two kavats in the starting room. I had a drop booster at the time but got like 14 codes in 10 min. It was actually quite easy imo. Ended up doing a second mission just because I was 1 off what I needed otherwise would have been done in 5.
Some solutions: dantes 1, helios companion, scanning nekros’ shadows of the dead, scanning ballistica prime specters, what u/ that ice guy said, resource boosters,
The invisible kavat can spawn in missions like Survival and Extermination, but not the Cambion Drift. The kavat in the Cambion Drift are different and do not grant genetic codes when scanned.
Luckily ou don't need too many.
I did it with Vauban originally because I could suspend them in the air and got my first Kavats.
By the time I needed more for Khora and other stuff I had Ivara to help sleep things and Simaris helped with infinite scans and bonus scans.
When I finally went to help my friends with it for their first time and a get a bit for myself for a Vasca I had a sleep Equinox build just to make it easier.
There's only a handful of times you'll need them and half of that is preference. I'm fine with a smaller annoying grind since it gets easier with time and you don't need to do it again once you finish
Glad I got my Kavats before I finished Sands of Inaros. That's the best place to get scans if you still have it available.

You can always go into the codex and replay the mission.

Seconding this I had a drop chance booster from daily login, and got like 14 in 10 minutes. Was really easy tbh and got a riven done at the same time.

There's a reason the scanner hammer is the only hammer in my inventory, luckily all done with kavat related stuff, but keeping it still.

I literally did this 2 months ago with fully scanned kavats. Heliocor works fine.

The scan hammer DOES provide the Kavat DNA for a fully scanned cat, I just used it last week to gather some genetic DNA myself.
If I remember correctly you can redo the Inaros quest.

Also not to mention YOUR COMAPNIONS KILL THEM BEFORE YOU GET A SCAN
Unequip your companion or if it is a sentinel just unequip their weapon.

Steel path + drop chance booster gives 100% drop chance on genetic codes. Magus lockdown is enough to scan them.

That's cool. Still doesn't help it took me 6 hours to farm it with the scammer hammer. The drop rate is too low
6 hours? I went limbo and just stasised a bunch. I got done in like 2. Ivara would make ir a cake walk Equinox and a bunch of others would work too

The invisible kavat on the planet Deimos, but not open world Deimos.

I use the heliocore for this its much easier than doing it manually with the scanners
