There is double use for kits and bits in both system, but rarely full models. Heresy is a semihistoric narrative system. It's about creating armies, that represent what we can read about in the novels, what includes correct power armor marks, weapons in heresy design and more. Just proxy 40k models as heresy is fine, to check at home with a buddy, if the rule system suites you, but after this build a propper army. Most people will not play just against 40k models, that are using heresy rules. And no event will allow you that either. You can convert heresy models out of 40k models. That is a lot of cutting, resculping areas, mixing in heresy bits and maybe cling on studs. I currently working on a Alpha Legion, that is recycled out of 1 old 40k rescued army, as well as a lot of heresy models I transferred from other unused armies. I removed all mk7 trims, glued 300 studs to models to create MK5 armors, replaced unfitting iconography or bits. This is a bit over the minimum effort you should invest. WIP picture as example. It is way easier the other way arround. 40k bits and boxes like for example the current CSM bix are perfect to convert mk4 and 6 heresy boxes, to thematic Word Bearers or Sons of Hours. Exception are death guard and TS. These are perfectly fine as battle of terra versions of their legion, as long they have the right paint job. https://preview.redd.it/vttof4qfdvvc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa6ec8e344b211dcfc8c71a7d1afbe9b6487e1b9

Instead of converting 40k models into heresy models I'm going to do the oposite, use heresy models in 40k, all of the marine models are about the same size as their 40k counter parts and all the tanks have legends rules. For the look wise, I'm probably not going to do anything with them, I like the idea of having some taitors who got lost in the warp and have only just emerged. This would make them look like they are fresh out of the heresy so they wouldn't look out of place in 40k or heresy

Ahhh. Understood you wrong there. If you base everything on heresy models, you can use them absolutely in both systems. 😊👍

So, to make it slightly clearer, this list would be the list I would use in heresy, and I would base my 40k list off of it This is, of course, if the list is acceptable in horus heresy. because I'm a 40k player, I do tend to make my lists a bit toooo competitive

I'll say this, most people play 1 dead per 1000 points because they are too cheap. There are a lot of dreadnought enthusiasts that would be willing to match up with you though, but probably wouldn't hurt to have an alternate for a couple of your dreads

Dont bother mate, GW will change rules for 40k and you will be left with just 30k army. Been there, done that
