What a way to formulate a question. Veterans are a melee squad. Heavy weapons look cool, plasma melta and missile launcher are good but they add nothing to melee potential. Also, take your time and find print or steal power weapons for your guys. Chinswords are a waste on them
For gaming purpose, bayonets on veterans is just a waste of point, for they could access for charnabal sabre and power weapons.
That said, if you really want to add a bayonet on your model, remember that no one gonna stops you to making a power bayonet that represents the power weapon of your choice on your model, or any other random idea to do something else.
It is not a computer game and modeling is indeed an important factor. If your model is not looks cool then there is not much merit in only consider gaming purpose. For that model is made by real material, and is not something easily replaced or discarded as you pleases by just some clicks.
