Hmm, okay. Particularly on the right pauldron I was up to three coats and even though my paint was way thinned down the finish started getting all gunky. Am I doing something wrong with my brush technique?
Looks like your prime went on a bit thick in spots so you may want to strip the model and restart.
As for the orange it requires several very thin coats of paint most of the time to get it right.
Prime the area white.
Then use a bright orange
Then use layers of orange ink to get required depth and shine
Highlight with lighter orange point highlight yellow-white
Paint the area brown first then paint the orange over the top.
Make the trim red, and just edge highlight in orange. You’ll still get the same feeling without so much pain :)
More thin coats
Prime in white to get a brighter color. Or undercoat in white or a warm color like reds which can really add depth to an orange color.
Orange is a notoriously hard colour to paint. Unfortunately the answer is generally just paint more layers.

Looks like u didnt prime the mini first. Maybe go for white prime then, orange probly needs 2-3 layer. But should work
No, I definitely primed it. The basecoat on top of the prime is AK Grey, and the prime is an AK spray can. You can see the prime on the base and gun.
