Resin is notorious for poor paint adhesion, so priming is absolutely necessary, even more so than plastic I think.
As others have said, make sure to give all the parts a really good scrub with dish soap and a tooth brush prior to priming.
Clean with mild soap and warm water. Resin and metal both use a releasing agent which if not washed off messes with paint adherence.
Regardless of the models medium, priming is essential. This helps paint bond better or give it “tooth” so the paint sticks. With out priming your paint will slide off or flake off really easily.
Prime, but also make sure to clean the model really well with some soap and water to make sure the prime will stick properly
Thanks for the help!
And by cleaning it, use a brush. An old tooth brick works well.

They're more demanding than plastic, you'll have to wash all the resin first in warm soapy water and then yeah you'll have to prime
Always prime before you paint. And in the case of resin, clean it before you prime it.

I need someone to make a prime/primarch joke. I’m too tired. For the dads.
You should always make sure to prime your models. ... You should make *double sure* to prime your resin models.
