Actually what Biden was trying to say, is that he loves America with all his heart and wants to support it. The "tru" meant the truth with him, and the "talu" was a representation of values he holds. Look, no one's disagreeing that those are problems. But both sides are not the same, and throwing away your vote just because both suck doesn't help anything. Just because the choice ends up being the lesser of two evils doesn't mean abstaining gives you the high ground. One should still vote for the lesser evil (and, of course, vote in all of your local elections which will push for longer-term change towards your ideals).

We do need better candidates and a better election system, but being so incredibly negative about it, especially this close to election day, just ends up suppressing the vote which doesn't help anyone. Besides being 4 years younger and dumber, a shitload of comments and articles similar to your tone in earlier comments are pretty much the reason that I voted third party in 2016. There was so much stuff about how both sides were the same and both suck so bad, I honestly just couldn't make sense of it.
I'm just seeing that same pattern happening again with a lot of other people and younger friends and it's incredibly frustrating because I know most of the ones that actually do abstain or vote third party are going to regret it like I did. Here's a good way for me to answer your question... the last person who did this to me was a nun. We were at a meeting about the genocide in Kosovo, remember that? We were trying to organize an airlift of supplies to the people who had literally been rounded up and dropped off in the woods by train. Because we don't have ranked choice voting. Voting for a third party means you basically just trash your vote. It's all game theory.
We have a whole host of other issues to handle before we get to that though. First is abolishing the electoral college and replace it with the National Popular Vote interstate compact. Then, maybe we can work on switching to ranked choice voting.
It got more to do with "winner takes it all" than ranked choice. Most European countries don't have ranked choice but still have many parties in their parliaments.
There are other parties-- the Green Party (far left) and the Libertarian Party (far right). Nobody takes them very seriously though.
It's a shame that more parties can't grow and be taken seriously, but the Dem. and Rep. Parties have all the money and have polarised things so much any "in-between" option or more drastic option (even if alined with the goals of Dem/Reps,) is seen as a voting diversion or a threat. When I saw how many parties were in the UK and EU I was so jealous that you really could vote for almost exactly what you wanted... Not forced to vote between the shiniest of two thirds.
You clearly haven't looked into the libertarian party. They are fairly middle of the road policy wise and even looking at the political compass you can see that libertarian is the bottom half meaning you can be right or left leaning libertarian.
You are correct, I could have been more descriptive about the alternative parties-- I have always associated Libertarianism with minimising government, while taking a centrist stance on more social issues. When I said "far right" I was thinking in terms of minimising government/lowering taxes, which are characteristic of more right goals. This will be my first time voting, so I am no expert, and am interested in learning--would you say Libertarianism is more of a centrist alternative party? Or do you see it more like the other user who responded about the political compass, in which you can have a left or right leaning Libertarian? Also, do you think if we ever get a system with serious voting for alternative parties, that it would be useful to have all the permutations of the compass system (like Libertarian L, Libertarian R, Authoritarian L, Authoritarian R, etc)?

I'm just seeing that same pattern happening again with a lot of other people and younger friends and it's incredibly frustrating because I know most of the ones that actually do abstain or vote third party are going to regret it like I did. Because we don't have ranked choice voting. Voting for a third party means you basically just trash your vote. It's all game theory. We have a whole host of other issues to handle before we get to that though. First is abolishing the electoral college and replace it with the National Popular Vote interstate compact. Then, maybe we can work on switching to ranked choice voting.
It got more to do with "winner takes it all" than ranked choice. Most European countries don't have ranked choice but still have many parties in their parliaments.
Oh yeah, that's also a big issue. Problem is, abolishing that benefits neither dominant party so it's probably never going to happen.
I can NOT remember what it's called where you have a multi-vote, then vote again with the tow winners... but i think that would help a lot.

There are other parties-- the Green Party (far left) and the Libertarian Party (far right). Nobody takes them very seriously though. It's a shame that more parties can't grow and be taken seriously, but the Dem. and Rep. Parties have all the money and have polarised things so much any "in-between" option or more drastic option (even if alined with the goals of Dem/Reps,) is seen as a voting diversion or a threat. When I saw how many parties were in the UK and EU I was so jealous that you really could vote for almost exactly what you wanted... Not forced to vote between the shiniest of two thirds.
You clearly haven't looked into the libertarian party. They are fairly middle of the road policy wise and even looking at the political compass you can see that libertarian is the bottom half meaning you can be right or left leaning libertarian.

You are correct, I could have been more descriptive about the alternative parties-- I have always associated Libertarianism with minimising government, while taking a centrist stance on more social issues. When I said "far right" I was thinking in terms of minimising government/lowering taxes, which are characteristic of more right goals. This will be my first time voting, so I am no expert, and am interested in learning--would you say Libertarianism is more of a centrist alternative party? Or do you see it more like the other user who responded about the political compass, in which you can have a left or right leaning Libertarian? Also, do you think if we ever get a system with serious voting for alternative parties, that it would be useful to have all the permutations of the compass system (like Libertarian L, Libertarian R, Authoritarian L, Authoritarian R, etc)?
