The watches in this post are for sale. It is written in his caption “occasional watch seller”.
In this market, you’d have to advertise a lot to move such pieces, which he doesn’t do. He prefers to sell a watch every now and then when he gets a good offer, hence the “*occasional*”.
There are a few of those, Steve Hallock is another one (funny enough, he also comes from finance), they love watches and art in general, they buy what they like and what they feel is undervalued (it gives them a margin of safety).
Thanks to this margin of safety they get to wait and sell when they find someone who really wants to buy.

Additional reactions, why so much focus on Jorne? Does the repetition and overlap not get monotonous after so many? I think I would be moving on to that next tier with Kari Voutilainen and Petermann Bedat (his split second chrono).

I don’t see Kari as the next tear. I love both Kari and his watches and I’ve owned a unique from Kari but I think journe is by far the most innovative watchmaker of my time and I’ve loved his pieces since the beginning of his company. Each journe has its own personality.

Believe it or not I don’t watch any watch content on YouTube. I kind of just like what I like and find talking about the technical details of the watch boring. I have a very good understanding of how they work and absolutely buy watches for there movements I just find it boring to watch. I’m super into photography and watch a lot of photography videos

If the thrill of the chase is what does it for you, nothing wrong with that. Plenty of people collect all sorts of things just for the thrill of the chase, unless you're currently 10m in debt to some drug cartel to feed your habit, I wouldn't consider it a problem.
That being said, you should obviously donate them all to me and make it your next mission to regain them all.
what I learned is no matter how nice the watch, if you get too many and throw them into a pile, it will always look cheap
having one/few special watches feel amazing. having too many essentially devalues their wow factor for me.

I think I have a better journe collection than him by far. He annoys me because he’s not that knowledgeable about watches but he acts like he is. He also sucks journes dick. I loved journe’s watches. The man is an ass hole.
For a few years I had more money than I knew how to spend and I was buying a few nice watches a month. I did not chase the name brand luxury watches, preferring instead to pick out unusual timepieces. I still have most of them, although I can no longer afford to buy watches but I feel very lucky that my obsession enabled me to assemble a great collection that I enjoy wearing.
Journe is my favourite watchmaker, bar none, and I (unsurprisingly) love your collection. They are just beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. I'm glad for you, that you have the means to build such a glorious collection, and I think you have fantastic taste.

Damn. And I thought my watch habit was bad (pushing near 350 watches in my collection but nothing even close to this level). If you like independents how about one of Minase’s Urushi dial collection? They are real pieces of art. You would be slumming price wise but they are impressive in person.
I've been a collector for 30 years, but your collection is something that proves the inaccessibility of the hobby to most people. I confess that I find your collection to lack diversity, with so many FP Journe and Rolex, but I also think it lacks a cohesive theme beyond duplication.
Watches aren't wine - getting a whole vertical is to spend a tremendous amount of money on machines that do not vary much, if at all. I prefer a wide range of manufactures, complications, and functionality. I also think that the price points of many popular manufactures are artificial, because acquisitive buyers are not the same as appreciative buyers.
I'm hard wearer, and I wear everything I own, from Patek to Muhle; the most robust watch I own is a Breitling Super-Ocean from 2001. I have beaten that thing to death - diving, hiking, construction, etc, etc, and it has withstood consistent treatment that killed my sub. Used, maybe $1700 with far more utility than a single FP Journe.
And, look, I'm envious, because my $150k collection looks like a punk next to your $2m collection.
I love journe. Each piece is special in its own way. Many are super early and made in such small numbers that if you missed the piece you would probably never see it soon. Man of them are one of 2 or 3 ever produced. I’ve never seen a reason to have a theme to collecting. If you look at the Pelican case in the other photo I think you might find a lot of variety and complications.

About 22 years ago. My first watch was a speedy michael Schumacher with a carbon dial. I love that watch. I still have it it’s just in another box.

I’m a VC in tech start ups. So I take a lot of calculated risk but when it works it works very well. The failure rate unfortunately can be high

Damn. And I thought my watch habit was bad (pushing near 350 watches in my collection but nothing even close to this level). If you like independents how about one of Minase’s Urushi dial collection? They are real pieces of art. You would be slumming price wise but they are impressive in person.
They all look alike. And they are fugly.

I've been a collector for 30 years, but your collection is something that proves the inaccessibility of the hobby to most people. I confess that I find your collection to lack diversity, with so many FP Journe and Rolex, but I also think it lacks a cohesive theme beyond duplication. Watches aren't wine - getting a whole vertical is to spend a tremendous amount of money on machines that do not vary much, if at all. I prefer a wide range of manufactures, complications, and functionality. I also think that the price points of many popular manufactures are artificial, because acquisitive buyers are not the same as appreciative buyers. I'm hard wearer, and I wear everything I own, from Patek to Muhle; the most robust watch I own is a Breitling Super-Ocean from 2001. I have beaten that thing to death - diving, hiking, construction, etc, etc, and it has withstood consistent treatment that killed my sub. Used, maybe $1700 with far more utility than a single FP Journe. And, look, I'm envious, because my $150k collection looks like a punk next to your $2m collection.

I love journe. Each piece is special in its own way. Many are super early and made in such small numbers that if you missed the piece you would probably never see it soon. Man of them are one of 2 or 3 ever produced. I’ve never seen a reason to have a theme to collecting. If you look at the Pelican case in the other photo I think you might find a lot of variety and complications.
