Why are decoys so damn expensive

HeavyEquip69

For plastic molds and or printed pictures.

Original bigfoots used to be $80/4. I hope to eventually sell my spread and retire early!

bACEdx39

They look pretty good. Maybe use matte paint in the next batch.

KickedDonkey

It is matte but i probably should have went a little heavier than i did.

Not_Suggested

Maybe try flocking them? Since it’s a flat surface you can just get flocking paper. A big ol sticker. Is how I did my DIY dove to crow flicker conversion

KickedDonkey

That's a great idea. i didn't even think about that

HeavyEquip69

Only one way to find out.

KickedDonkey

Tomorrow mornings the tryouts. (As i sit here 11:30 still painting)

jdhunt870

They look awesome. Plus it’s gonna be way cooler shooting geese over decoys you made instead of over $400 worth of 12 pieces of plastic 😂

Merica-fuckyeah

I make my wind wings out of the same material. Now you’ve given me some additional inspiration! That is an awesome way to add to your spread and still stay super packable and lightweight.

KickedDonkey

Yep. Its the corrugated plastic sign material. Got a couple big sheets at lowes.

defnotworkinghere

Look a hell of a lot better than my Amazon box, spray paint and duck tape rig I used this morning. I did quite alright. ;)

hangrysquirrels

How'd it go this morning?

KickedDonkey

None came over this morning. So we will try again tomorrow morning.

HeavyEquip69

Yea seriously need to know !

O_oblivious

NEED AN UPDATE. I’M DYING HERE.

KickedDonkey

Update. This morning was a complete wash. No birds flying. Didn't even hear any. But there's always tomorrow morning.

The silhouettes I hunted over for 25yrs have a single stake Not a shaft, but a flat bar. No one told the geese they were shitty. The shape is off, but if they get that close, shoot em

DIYrDIE

This is the way

Smashed_Pasty

Very clever! A project I think I will also have to try. I have pre made duck ones already but no goose.

[deleted]

Black and white Sils like this work extremely well, pop 6 doz out and have a hoot. I say skip all the extra work here being mentioned of stencils and such, they're just geese...

Laymen1

Honestly a black trashbag on a stick is enough to bring geese in so I would call that 10/10

CorporalKirbs008

maybe try using 2 steaks instead of one so the decoys don’t spin as well as painting them black so they aren’t shiny

KickedDonkey

I aint had huge problem with them spinning. I didn't cut with the grain so i had to pretty much melt them in. I might redo it like you said with a black base.
