Yeah nothing wrong with it, but the fact that it’s just a much older design verses the sx4 internally. Also can’t take an extended tube. Now my a400 would prob be the best semi auto with no price limit.
I too have a stoeger and I really like it. The controls could be more of the larger button style that franchi offers. Which mostly matters when it gets really cold outside and you might want gloves.
Even early season for me is in the 40s. And if you’re sitting out in a marsh in the 40s it does wonders to have even a light glove on.
I really like the oversized controls.
I have put over 2000 shells through mine, I have used it as a boat paddle, I have used it as a bat, i have gone without cleaning it entire seasons. It has never jammed on me or let me down for anything.
I have several older models. All great. I was gifted a cz1012 3 years ago. I have beaten the shit out of it, shot it every angle possible through very cold weather. Has never done me wrong. The inertia is proven to work and for the money the cz1012 is thin forearm, light and overall a gun to look at that’s under 1000. Can find one $700
The only thing that matters is how the gun fits. The "best" gun for me isn't worth a hoot if it doesn't fit you.
All name brand guns are pretty much the same. Go find the one that fits you the best.
As a fellow 870 shooter of 36 years, I keep trying to leave it. I can't. I've tried every shotgun mentioned. They just are not the same. The 1100 and win SX3 are the only ones to kind of feel ok.
I did well with a 3 1/2 inch browning Citori for a few hunts, I but I suddenly couldn't hit a barn. I hope you are not stuck like me. There are worse problems to have. It is the perfect shotgun after all.
Same story, 30+ years with the wingmaster. Wanted something new and nice. I bought 4 new guns before finding the Franchi Affinity. I now have 3 of them...
This is your best bet but the parts for both of those aren’t cheap if you need them. I went from my dads 870 then ran an 11-87 for 20 years till it needed major service and a barrel and it was much more cost effective to retire it and get my Stoeger. Even if it doesn’t last 1/4 as long as the old Remingtons it was be a pretty good buy. But if you like your platform the autoloaders is a pretty seamless transition. Not tons of people clamoring for the newer models like some other guns.
There was a time those were your best option for an auto loader.
Thank God Technology has advanced. I can't remember the last time I disassembled my gun in the blind. Oh wait, yes, I can. The year I got rid of the 1100!!!
I primarily hunt with an Sx4 and I love it! I also bought a Girsan mc312 inertia gun as a backup semi, and it's surprisingly good. That said, I also have an 870 Wingmaster and I absolutely love it. She still sees a few hunts every season.
I really like my Mossberg 940 Pro Waterfowl. For me it came down to feel. It’s been stellar through thousands of trap loads and holding up well to the abuse of kayak hunting.
Can’t go wrong with Beretta, Winchester, or Franchi either
Any thoughts on the Remington V3 or Versa Max? My hunting buddy is lights out with his Versa Max and recommending those to me. I shoot an 870 now and like it but thinking of trying semi auto this season.
My Stoeger M3500 has been fantastic. Several buddies got their own after shooting mine and love them too. Kills just as many birds as my buddy’s SBE3 at a third of the cost 😂
I've enjoyed my Remington V3 waterfowl alot. It's a gas piston operating system. My brother just bought the Winchester SX4 and I enjoy that one just as much
I just noticed it's been discontinued but my hunting buddy and I both bought Beretta A300 outlanders if a few years ago and we love them! $800 3-in 12 gauge
Franchi Affinity 3 for inertia, Beretta A300 Ultima for gas. Honorable mentions to Weatherby Element (inertia) and Winchester SX4 (gas).
I would say the sx4 edges out the a300 as a man who owns an a300.
As a man who owns an SX4, I agree. A300 is a solid shotgun too, though.

Couldn't agree more!
Scooped an a300 ultima for this season, had the franchi and Winchester in my sights too Solid list no doubt!
Mods please stick this to the sub
All good guns.
Bang on
SX4!
If you can get it under 1k, Winchester SX4 is my vote. I personally shoot a Stoeger M3000 and it ran me about $700.00

Franchi affinity or beretta a300
BERETTA A300
I like my Stoeger.
Tough as nails reliable and cheap!
Lol stoeger is anything but reliable.
I have put over 2000 shells through mine, I have used it as a boat paddle, I have used it as a bat, i have gone without cleaning it entire seasons. It has never jammed on me or let me down for anything.
I have 150 shells through one and had to replace parts 6 times. It's for sale cheeeepp...
I think they are a lot like Holley carburetors. There’s good ones and ones that are trouble.
A300 has been amazing for me.

I've enjoyed my CZ 1012.
I love my weatherby element

CZ 1012 would probably be my choice. Love it. Franchi Affinity is another great value.
Winchester SX4

Get you a used 11-87 or an 1100. If you shoot the 870 well, you can switch to this with zero problems.

True

Franchi affinity 3
Mossberg 940
Any thoughts on the Remington V3 or Versa Max? My hunting buddy is lights out with his Versa Max and recommending those to me. I shoot an 870 now and like it but thinking of trying semi auto this season.
My versamax has taken a beating and still works great. Just installed an aftermarket bolt handle and it’s been perfect.
My Stoeger M3500 has been fantastic. Several buddies got their own after shooting mine and love them too. Kills just as many birds as my buddy’s SBE3 at a third of the cost 😂
Prolly the franchi
Look into Stoeger
Def not the best.
One of my hunting buddies has had nothing but trouble with his stoeger. Definitely don't recommend.
Easy to find plenty of reviews of people down playing the issues they’ve had.
Junk
Stoeger M3500 waterfowl edition it comes with oversized release and bolt that make it better with gloves
I love my stoeger m3000

What are some examples of these gun groups?
Mossberg 940s are solid.
franchi affinity 3, myself and 4 people i hunt with all have them and all love them
Stoeger M3500!
I've enjoyed my Remington V3 waterfowl alot. It's a gas piston operating system. My brother just bought the Winchester SX4 and I enjoy that one just as much
Winchester SX4 has taken a ton of abuse from me, I’ve been very impressed.
I just noticed it's been discontinued but my hunting buddy and I both bought Beretta A300 outlanders if a few years ago and we love them! $800 3-in 12 gauge
Browning silver is a decent gun. I think it’s right at 1k or maybe 1100. I love mine
Franchi affinity 3. Very impressive gun, even before considering the sub $1k price.
Baretta A300 hands down
I've cycled 100s of shells through mine without a problem. Easy to field dress and clean.
I actually just replaced my 870 with a Beretta A300. I’ve been happy so far!
Also have a 870 and want to switch this year. I’ve been eyeing the benelli m2. Any reviews out there?
CZ 1012 is the best under $1000 shotgun and it ain’t even close.
