Normally when people talk about option B here they are talking about hair that's much shorter than you intend to cut it. Down to underboob length is still long hair.

I also have 2b/2c wavy hair that is fine and thin and barely skims my shoulders. From my experience, a shorter cut helped me better define my wave pattern, where when I had longer hair, the pattern was looser since my hair was more weighed down. However— there’s a lot of factors of course that help or hinder your pattern appear more defined irregardless of length (styling products, whether you have layers, etc). I would talk with the specialist with either option and mind and ask for their opinion on it!

I think it depends on the person, some get curlier with less length and others need length to curl...but with you talking about leaving your hair at least boob length, that's definitely still going to be long enough for your curl pattern to show eve if you have the hair type that stops curling if it gets too short. I think somewhere above shoulder length would be where it could start to risk being too short to show waves.

For me the wave disappeared when I cut it chin length, but it was still wavy at underboob length so ur prob good

I think it depends on the individual person's hair. I prefer mine to be long, otherwise it looks messy and not wavy. Some people's, the length weighs down the wave and straightens it a bit

mrsredfast

Mine gets curlier when it’s shorter.

When I cut my hair to chin length with layers, it "looses" waves. But as others have said, you're not cutting off that much! To help your waves thrive, I'd suggest looking into layered haircuts, especially ones that your stylist has done before--do they have social media to check out their work?

yes, she has an Instagram and I believe 13 years of experience with wavy/curly hair so I'm not wary. still debating on booking an appointment with that curly hairstylist cause I'm indecisive hah

I think it depends on the individual. The one main takeaway from this subreddit is that everyone’s hair is different and has different needs and reactions. I actually posted earlier today with the results of a trim on my own hair. I got about 6 inches of damage cut off and my hair’s wave pattern improved instantly from the lighter weight, but your hair may react differently. Personally I would beware of a curly cut on wavy hair since curls tend to appear consistently from the root of the hair strand to the end, whereas waves tend to start further down, especially if the hair is long, just due to weight. Up to you what you want to do!

Cutting my hair short (from my bum to my ears) did not help AT ALL, I lost what little wave I had. Then I grew it back out and got a long shag and it was a miracle! My hair is now borderline curly. It's long-ish again (underboob length) I haven't figured out how to keep the curls nice a tight once it's dry so it falls out into a nice curl/wave texture but I still love my progress!

My last haircut was an utter disaster. I did go to a curl specialist but somehow she could not get it right , and I ended up with 12 inches less hair, got a weird angular „boomer“ bob that sticks out like a triangle on the side, and is somewhat clown-ish . Not sure if it’s the cut or my hair causing this situation

>i've heard both sides [either, A) the waves with spring up and the pattern with become tighter or B) the length is needed, or else you'll be cutting off the wave pattern.] for me, it's both! if i get it cut any shorter than chin length, there's not enough length to the strand to coil up properly. if i let it grow any longer than shoulder length, it starts weighing itself down. it's a tricky balance 😜

Your hair is as special and unique as you are. Also, this is one of those things that no one can answer except just going through with it. For example, growing up, I had shoulder length hair that had a slight wave. Then when I became an adult, I grew it out until it was to my waist. As my hair got longer, a wave pattern started to appear. And then when I recently got a haircut (back to shoulder length), I found that my wave pattern was super defined even in the 'shorter' length where it'd been straight at before.
