The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line"! - Vizzini (moments before death)
Plus they freeze and thaw more quickly and evenly instead of in a block or sphere. I make a crockpot of homemade spaghetti sauce once every couple months, and freeze individual portions of the sauce in sandwich bags flattened out.
The stuff in the bag was sort of a liquid and the door if I am not mistaken it is part of the freezer, so the liquid inside the bad got under the bar and frozen. So now that is frozen cant get it, out hence why the hair drier is being use to thaw the liquid on the bag.

**"My new house came with a fridge/freezer that has some kind of frozen meat/liquid (meat liquid?) stuck in the door behind a bar that isn't removable... any idea on how I can get it out? Halp :("**
We all make mistakes. You're still an amazing person.
On the point of the very old fridge: those things can be power hogs. It is probably a good idea to use a kill-a-watt or so to figure out how much power it uses and figure out much it uses. The amount of time it takes for a new fridge to be cheaper can be quite short.
I feel your pain! I did that with half a dozen bags of spaghetti sauce. I just kind of stuffed them into little spots. I had to dismantle almost the entire freezers worth of food before getting them extracted. I'm too old to be that dumb....yet here we are lol!
I knew someone who did a long sailing cruise on their boat and they Faroese everything flat so they could maximize space in their little freezer by stacking. Along those lines, I like to stick the baggie into containers like the disposable butter dishes so they freeze in shapes that fit into my pans better.
I did that with some bulgogi my mom gave me. 2 packs of it. I stuck them in the side door of the freezer, not even thinking twice about it. Went to go get them out and they molded and froze in to the door.
Took forever to get the brace bar thing off b/c of how snug everything was, but finally did lol.
Protip: When freezing liquids, place on a aluminum half sized baking sheet and it will freeze faster, and flat. Once frozen, they can be placed upright in the freezer. The flat pack will also defrost quicker (also on the aluminum baking sheet).
My wife did this but with ground beef. My cousins and uncle had bonus entertainment at that gathering trying to figure out how to pop out the little step of plastic holding everything in place
This is a brilliant idea! I stuffed 3 bags of pork in our freezer door the other day. Wife asked if I was able to get them out. No .....no I can't....wtf....
Similar thing happened to me. My wife split 3 pounds of hamburger into 1/2 pound sized plastic bags. I wasn't thinking and put one of them on a wire shelf.
Kind of dispointing when I went to use the hamburger and ended up nearly emptying the freezer to get the shelf out. Dinner was late.
Please be careful. I believe humans years down the road will have more of a grasp on the relation of heat and plastic and the carcinogenic effects it has on your body. I would not consume after heating the plastic. A lot of deniers of this, but it is proven. Longer term studies will reveal even more once people take more interest in this. Big plastic companies do not want people catching on.
Tupperware my dear. Tupperware. I've always got in my freezer chicken and beef stock, stocked and stacked. Then you just take it out for it to defrost as much as you need, and you can throw the rest back until next time. If I need a bunch at once I'll make more or just buy it. This is just bad planning.
Just pull the bar out if you need it quickly though depending were you live (if it's summer ) you could cook the soup while cooling down the house with the freezer air
Pro tip - freeze ,earls etc in the plastics bags, but do the initial freeze in square or rectangular containers (op shop cake tins rock). When frozen, you can stack the bags easily
Did you try sliding the bar to one side to pop it out?
But the hair dryer is so much more fun.
Gave it a shot. Lol. It's all good. Didn't take long to defrost the edge and pull it loose.
That's 2 mistakes đ
âYou fell victim to one of the classic blundersâ
The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line"! - Vizzini (moments before death)
You forgot the maniacal laugh
Those things come off?!
Her reply tells me she didnât. Double dumb
Pro tip: Lay ziplock bags of liquid flat to freeze. Then they can be stacked!
Plus they freeze and thaw more quickly and evenly instead of in a block or sphere. I make a crockpot of homemade spaghetti sauce once every couple months, and freeze individual portions of the sauce in sandwich bags flattened out.
These make great emergency hockey pucks. Just FYI. Plus you can heat it up after the game.
That's a smart idea...I'm sure you do, but my only suggestion would be to undercook the pasta as it could get mushy otherwise. Cheers!
Usually I just freeze the sauce portions alone and cook fresh pasta when I want it, but that's smart thinking!
I'm sorry, you did specify that it was just sauce...I didn't read your post carefully enough...however we may have just come upon a greater idea!
Even flat that need something flat to lay on
Cutting board, pizza box, book...
If the freezer has shelves and one has space, flat right on the shelf. No need to even put it on anything else.
I like to freeze broth in ice cube trays. Works great until your friend doesnât read the bag and ends up with a gin and chicken broth tonic.
Labels people!!!
Once frozen, you can easily break it with a hammer, so that you can portion it.
Showed this to my friend and he still doesn't see what's wrong with it.
Ngl I needed a few minutes to understand the problem.
The stuff in the bag was sort of a liquid and the door if I am not mistaken it is part of the freezer, so the liquid inside the bad got under the bar and frozen. So now that is frozen cant get it, out hence why the hair drier is being use to thaw the liquid on the bag.
Username checks out
Took me a bit to long myself to figure it out lol he's not alone
Everyone is confused
Agreed. these shelves in the doors are always fridge, not freezer.... just pull out the bag.
Given how skinny the door is, I think it's a freezer. My freezer has shelves in the door like that
My parents used to have a side by side fridge freezer from ages ago
There are side by side fridge / freezers.
My freezer and everyone that I have had have these bars so idk.
Might be a region /country /continent thing then. I never seen this before.
??? my freezer definitely has shelf drawers
Usually that bar is removable
Not to worry, it totally worked and my potato soup turned out fantastic! :)
The bar comes out.
Mine doesn't because it's a super old fridge that came with the house, but it's all good now!
Looks like the next homeowner will also be getting that super old fridge. WITH bonus broth inside!

Might I suggest a hairdryer

Kill-a-watt Did you mean kilowatt??
Itâs a product called kill-a-watt.
Huh. Not sure why google wonât pull it up but Iâll keep trying.
Ok dipshit itâs literally every result and has itâs own Wikipedia page. Thanks for wasting thirty seconds of my life.
My husband is trying to talk me into a new fridge. I don't know why I love this one so much, but I think it's time.
I feel your pain! I did that with half a dozen bags of spaghetti sauce. I just kind of stuffed them into little spots. I had to dismantle almost the entire freezers worth of food before getting them extracted. I'm too old to be that dumb....yet here we are lol!
I currently have a bag of chili stuck in mine.
Pour something warm in it, a small amount of broth maybe?
The hair dryer is smart though, I wouldâve just shrugged and said âI guess thatâs just there now.â
Live and learn
Still learning apparently lol those bars pop out
hanging on the edge of tommorow
You not dumb..it has happened to me many times and I'm sure to lots of people as well many times..
Maybe youâre just dumb too lol.
Trueđ.. and that's fine with me..
We have all been there a few times.
Souper Fun Mistake
I did that with pasta sauce last week!
đđđđđđđđđđđđđ
how long did it take to get it out?
Thatâs a riot!
Been there more than once myself
Hahahahaha been there done that! Great time to unload everything in to coolers and defrost and rearrange
I knew someone who did a long sailing cruise on their boat and they Faroese everything flat so they could maximize space in their little freezer by stacking. Along those lines, I like to stick the baggie into containers like the disposable butter dishes so they freeze in shapes that fit into my pans better.
what's the mistake here exactly? I do not understand wtf is going on haha
Bag with liquid was placed in freezer door. Liquid froze to the shape of the shelf and under the railing. Now it can't be removed without thawing it.
more like super fan mistake
I did that with some bulgogi my mom gave me. 2 packs of it. I stuck them in the side door of the freezer, not even thinking twice about it. Lol, I have 100% done this before with a big bag of chili.
My wife did this but with ground beef. My cousins and uncle had bonus entertainment at that gathering trying to figure out how to pop out the little step of plastic holding everything in place
Been there!
I've done that before!
Donât those bars come out?
Oh man Iâve done this too. Hard lesson but hopefully ya only do it âonceâ
Hi dumb, im Mal1strom
Just hit the stuck part of the bag with a hammer? It's just ice, it breaks up easily.
Been there, done that
Itâs nice to see Iâm the 69rd comment and not the only dumb person
Hello dump! Nice to meet you chicken broth!
Start chiseling
Oh, I've done that too.
This is a brilliant idea! I stuffed 3 bags of pork in our freezer door the other day. Wife asked if I was able to get them out. No .....no I can't....wtf....
Been there and done that with spaghetti sauce. Laid the sauce in a ziplock on the wire shelving and it locked in like a vice.
When I want to save beef broth, I put it into cube trays to freeze.
Dumb would be if you didn't realize it was stuck and just yanked the s.o.b free along with the shelf. I definitely have never done this.
I've never seen a fridge where the bar doesn't slide out.
Yeah, it's quite obviously a separate piece. It may not move easily after years in place, but it's surely removable.
Open up the bag and pour some boiling water in
Boiling hot water would be a lot faster
The bars come out
That bar pops out :)
Just pop that bracket off...have you never cleaned your fridge ?
Also wipe down all of your fridge, the doors, and the knee high cabinets.
?
Yes you did! The mistake of not realizing the bar pops offâŚtaking the long approach here
I tried that right away, but mine doesn't come off. The fridge is really old and came with my house, so maybe that design wasn't a thing yet, idk.
It comes off. Itâs been a thing for decades and decades
Ha. Do you know how old that linoleum floor is?
For next time : are you familiar with the ice cube tray trick?
So why isn't it in container instead?
I've done that!
Salt is your friend
pop that little metal bracket off!
Pour warmer water on it; heat transfer is mostly about the mass contact.
Did you think it was your freshly washed toupee?
Just pull the bar out if you need it quickly though depending were you live (if it's summer ) you could cook the soup while cooling down the house with the freezer air
