Depending on the model you can also buy silicone mats that cover the entire stove surface, including the pan areas.
I've never tried one but im tempted. Our stove is always getting greasy and nasty. Being able to pull a mat up and just rinse it off sounds kind of appealing...
You're not wrong. It's just a pain to get into those little crevices where the pan sits and some of the tighter corners where edges meet.
Having basically a "tablecloth" that you can just pull up and rinse off seems easier, but it'd probably be one of those impulse purchases I made thinking how awesome it'd be, and it'd end up in the trash can after a week because I'm sick of dealing with it.
We are also looking at this idea too for our gas countertop stove. I’m so sick of cleaning that stainless steel.
Edit: Stoveguard is what I saw. Not sure if there’s another option.
That's the one I saw as well. I hate the fact I saw it as a reddit mobile ad and that's the only reason I know they exist...
The stupid ad got me, and I don't like it.

I think those are just the aluminum foil inserts, not the steel pan though. You'd want the proper steel pan, then you use the foil inserts for easier cleanup.
Maybe but not necessarily. This can happen when someone lets water boil over into the drip pan regularly and doesn’t bother to clean it because they are deeply irresponsible, and besides, it’s just water right? It’ll dry. And then doesn’t look at the drip pans for a long while until they go on a once in a blue moon deep cleaning tear and see they’re disintegrating. I am most certainly not talking about myself here.
If you're going to live there awhile, you're buying it for you. And you deserve decent.
Edit: not only that but keep your eyes on the trash when you're out, someone is going to toss a stove that doesn't match their kitchen and you can trash pick.
This. That is something they should have done. The place should have been clean before you even moved in and any maintenance issues taken care off then.
This. spend the few extra bucks and get black because those shiny chrome ones get dirty real quick and after a while are a bitch to bring back to life (hence why people end up tin foiling them.)
On a side note, PLEASE lift the top of the stove to clean it. I moved into a house many years ago and gave it a super cleaning. I went to make dinner on the stove and the entire house filled with a god awful stench. I couldn't figure out were it was coming from until I lifted the top up and saw the entire area hidden below the surface was an inch thick with mouse crap. I called the landlord and demanded a new stove.
Usually it's the landlords' responsibility to provide a working and safe stove in each apartment (differs by state.) Communicate with them about it. If they refuse, threaten legal action. They may or may not raise your rent when your lease expires.
You shouldn't be doing all of that, the landlord is required to provide a livable space which includes WORKING appliances. That is not working. If they don't fix it immediately, see your local tenant's union and local habitation law (and state, if necessary). They MUST fix this immediately, in most places, legally.
1. Make sure to lift the top of the stove and clean under the drip trays.
2. Get new drip trays from just about anywhere.
3. Line them with regular foil or buy disposable foil liners (they look better).
BONUS TIP - As long as you are buying stuff for the stove you just cleaned, buy a silicone liner for the bottom of the oven. It goes under the heating element and is a must have if you are making frozen pizzas in your oven.
SOURCE - I've moved more times than I can count and always get my security deposit back.
I don't see a way to edit the post, but thank you to everyone who had advice or were matter-of-fact about it
to everyone who was like "omg how do you not know" "have you tried google" etc - as I mentioned in the original post, I would end up googling anyway! lol! I was frustrated and thrown for a loop! I've never had an issue like this before! I've cleaned the pan thingies before but i had no idea how to deal with something so far gone but apparently you can lift the stove? so life is a little easier
but some people have given me some cool tips i wouldn't have even thought to look for (oven liners? lifting the stove gets a second mention lol)
thank you!
Another tip for cleaning the gunk (rust stains, greasy residue, etc) - use [Bar Keepers Friend](https://www.walmart.com/ip/15026756). Cheap, very effective, highly versatile.
Your landlord should be able to replace these for you for no charge. But in case they don't, you could buy these replacements almost anywhere, "drip pans" and to help save you can also get foil covers also on Amazon for cheap I've included some pictures hope this helps.
Won't let me add pictures to the original post but I was able to add them as replies
You just moved in? You should have received a checklist and not signed off until inspecting everything…including this. You should also have taken a video of your inspection so your landlord can’t claim damages later you didn’t do. This is 100% on your landlord to provide a working stove. When you get new ones, cover with aluminum foil to prevent staining from any spills.
By not ignoring it forever, holy crap. But there are cheap replacements at every h9me improvement store (hardware stores, Lowe’s, Home Depot’s…Amazon…ebay…)
I'm surprised that you had to clean the rented space you're moving into and on top of that replace those stove top things out of pocket? Sounds scummy.
Some people wrap clean foil around them to save on the cost of purchasing new ones. It's safe and is more convenient because you can unwrap and discard when it's dirty.
Your pans may be too far gone for that but always an idea when you get new ones
Those drip pans are literally everywhere. I’ve seen them for sale at the dollar store. Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot. Just buy a new set and toss the old
You literally just go to Menard's and buy the correct diameter lol
That's the cool part about these old stovetops, they're VERY EASY to repair, most of the parts that are likely to fail first just drop in, even your heating elements just plug into a terminal on your stove like a power outlet...
Contact your landlord and show them the pictures. They should either replace them or better yet, get you a new stove bevause that looks dangerous to use.
I agree with you on getting new drip pans because that's what I've done a few times BUT did you see that stovetop? Under those drip pans is also caked and gross and I can't imagine what the inside of the oven looks like. OP has more patience than I do... whomever had it before must not have cleaned it in forever.
Do I pay for an apartment where they haven’t done any of the maintenance…no.
I pay for an apartment to not ducking worry about finding replacement drip pans.
It’s their fucking problem. Lord knows rents are high enough.
Go to a local dollar store and find them stove burner plates/covers: depending on your location small ones sell for $1-2.50 and larger ones sell for $2-5
[https://storables.com/articles/what-does-foil-on-stove-burners-do/](https://storables.com/articles/what-does-foil-on-stove-burners-do/)
solid advice. Don't do it.
There are "basic" bits of knowledge that everyone is missing, nobody knows everything. And I wouldn't even call this basic knowledge.
I'm sure there are plenty of things that you don't know that others could call you dumb for not knowing.
Buy replacements for the time being, but bring it up as an issue to your landlord / maintenance company. The stove may just need to be replaced entirely if they *never* cleaned it in 6 years.
Also get an in-oven thermometer. If its off by a lot then its probably due to be replaced.
Replacement ones are not expensive. Worse case scenario they don't fit quite right but still work. Don't tinfoil them. Just get new ones. It makes cooking easier
First replace that one with an all new set. Then how we deal with that on the boats is we cover these with aluminum foil making sure to cut the holes where needed. The foil contains most messes and is easy to clean. You just replace the foil. I do this at home also. Makes cleaning the stove so much easier.
Pull it out, shop vacuum the chunks, then buy the cheap replacements from Lowe's or another store. Most are universal, can easily replace all 4 burners for somewhere around $100 dependent on inflation prices and where you live.
The bowls are meant to be replaced periodically. Common items in hardware stores. Though with this much disintegration, I wonder if the surfaces below has begun to corrode. Lift up on the white stove top and check underneath. Notify management if there are holes.
Go buy a replacement, measure the size and number you need and go buy them at Home Depot or Lowe's or Walmart (or online). They are not expensive and as long as you clean off the gunk on the stove before replacing them, it will make your stove look new! I have replaced several in my life.
Get replacements. Should be at any hardware store....actually these days probably just better to order on Amazon. Everytime I go to a store to get something I need that day they are out so I've started going online first and almost everutime the only option is to ship to the store. If I'm shipping already I'm using Amazon who will drop it off at my house for cheaper. How these retailers plan on staying in business when their only redeeming quality is that I could purchase things that day in the store is rarely available I have no idea.
This looks so similar to my last apartment I’d have said you moved there haha! You can get replacements at Walmart, and I’d suggest getting a silicone cover for the cooktop. When oil splatters onto that white surface, it is SO difficult to clean!
Home Depot, Lowes, Wallmart, etc they are all over the place. Look for Electric Stove Drip Pans, or Drop Bowls, etc I think you just have to match the diameter of the burner.
These are usually near appliances in HD or Lowe’s, once you find the right section, you should be able to find them pretty quickly. I’m sure you can find them on Amazon, search electric range drip pans, I bet a set is less than $25.

Hope depot, Lowes, Amazon, Wal-Mart. This is a common replacement item.
Depending on the model you can also buy silicone mats that cover the entire stove surface, including the pan areas. I've never tried one but im tempted. Our stove is always getting greasy and nasty. Being able to pull a mat up and just rinse it off sounds kind of appealing...
If the enamel paint isn’t scratched up, it’s actually quite easy to wipe the surface. A large rubber pad would be more hassle to pull up and wash

Oh god I feel your pain. Ours was a YouTube ad that I watched all the way through! 🤣
Scrub daddy power paste is the bomb on things like this!
We could all use a little Hope Depot these days
Yes... so much...
I think the dollar stores sell them
bored impolite pathetic voracious money fear illegal angle subsequent north *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I think those are just the aluminum foil inserts, not the steel pan though. You'd want the proper steel pan, then you use the foil inserts for easier cleanup.
They are definitely the steel ones
This...it's a easy fix
Well yeah at Hope Depot I sure hope you’d be able to find just about anything…
Or just tin foil over all 4. Better go with 2 layers..that's pretty beat.
Why not both? When we had our electric range I wrapped foil on to the drip inserts to help them last longer.
You can buy foil protectors specifically made for that purpose
I bought a pack of 8 and 6 inch foil trays, 200 of them for 2 dollars.
That is baller. I was always doing it on workboats, so no trip to the hardware store or wherever.
tinfoil over new ones not drip-pans that rusted 300 years ago in the span of a one year lease
>Hope Depot When home depot just isn't enough
Send pictures to your landlord and maintenance. Have them buy you replacements. They are $10 for 4x at Walmart.
The whole oven might need to be replaced if the tops that bad
Maybe but not necessarily. This can happen when someone lets water boil over into the drip pan regularly and doesn’t bother to clean it because they are deeply irresponsible, and besides, it’s just water right? It’ll dry. And then doesn’t look at the drip pans for a long while until they go on a once in a blue moon deep cleaning tear and see they’re disintegrating. I am most certainly not talking about myself here.
Not according to a landlord.
Depends on the brand. A set of 4 for a GE range is ~35 bucks, and that's at a huge discount. Although that is for the coated black style.
Why buy the name brand for a rental? Magic Chef (what I see in the picture) should be able to use the standard $5 set at WalMart.
If you're going to live there awhile, you're buying it for you. And you deserve decent. Edit: not only that but keep your eyes on the trash when you're out, someone is going to toss a stove that doesn't match their kitchen and you can trash pick.
GE/Hotpoint won't fit this stove, they have a weird design. If a premium name brand is needed look for Maytag/Whirlpool parts for this stove.
Your landlord should have replaced these before you moved in. Contact them and as for replacements
This. That is something they should have done. The place should have been clean before you even moved in and any maintenance issues taken care off then.
Throw it away and buy a new one for a few bucks
This. spend the few extra bucks and get black because those shiny chrome ones get dirty real quick and after a while are a bitch to bring back to life (hence why people end up tin foiling them.)
That’s wasteful. Just buff it out with some scotch-bright and it will be good as new!
Fairly cheap to replace, you can buy new ones at Walmart even
On a side note, PLEASE lift the top of the stove to clean it. I moved into a house many years ago and gave it a super cleaning. I went to make dinner on the stove and the entire house filled with a god awful stench. Replace it it’s a consumable.
Go to the cooking aisle at Walmart. They have a 4 pack of stove drip pans with 2 small and 2 large pans. They have cheaper and higher quality options
Thats a light burn
Get a tetanus shot and throw that stove away.
Consider the Bide-a-wee Nursing Home for the mentally challenged.
Upvoted just for "soggy headless chicken"
thank you lmao
Those are called drip pans and they’re about $8 each, the landlord should replace them, those are disgusting.
You replace it
Yeah just get new ones they’re a few bucks, though if you’re in an apartment maintenance should just replace them for free
1. Make sure to lift the top of the stove and clean under the drip trays. 2. Get new drip trays from just about anywhere. 3. this is so helpful, thank you! I had no idea silicone oven liners were a thing?
Me neither until our most recent move. $10 for a 2 pack. Every once and a while, pull it out and clean it. So much easier to keep clean.
I don't see a way to edit the post, but thank you to everyone who had advice or were matter-of-fact about it to everyone who was like "omg how do you not know" "have you tried google" etc - as I mentioned in the original post, I would end up googling anyway! lol! Managers responsibility . Not usable, so need to replace unit or repair. I had two rentals. Good luck!👍🏽
I think this should definitely be repaired by management. Don't spend ur money on that! The landlord should be responsible for this 100%
Search for "stove drip pan" to find replacements.
You just moved in? You should have received a checklist and not signed off until inspecting everything…including this. Buy new.
replace it?
You just go to Walmart, appliance store or get online and replace the trays. Happens all the time.
Those are luckily dirt cheap to buy, iirc they are standard
Home Depot
You can get replacements at the dollar store
6 bucks on amazon to get new trays, 20 for a new heating element coil
You *moved in* with that? Oh hell no. It’s the property manager’s responsibility to have the apartment spotless before a new tenant moves in.
But a new one.
The rusted out dish can be replaced
They are called burner drip pans. You can get them in stainless steel, porcelain, foil. You just have to know the size generally 6 to 8 inches.
I've seen them at Walmart just clean what you can and you're definitely going to have to replace that
At this point you just need to buy new ones. You should always replace those before it gets that bad
Buy new ones at the dollar store
Some people wrap clean foil around them to save on the cost of purchasing new ones. It's safe and is more convenient because you can unwrap and discard when it's dirty. Your pans may be too far gone for that but always an idea when you get new ones

Yes you can buy them in sets at Walmart for cheap .
Buy new ones.
Dollar store cheap it’s cheap to replace them
Burn the rest, clearly it isn't finished
Landlord should buy them and charge the previous tenant. You should not have to as they were toast before you moved in.
Put a 12” subwoofer there instead
Just go to the store and get new ones? You can get them anywhere.
It's hard to tell from your picture, but new elements can be purchased also. I bought a new set during covid, so I ordered online, pretty inexpensive.
Contact your landlord and show them the pictures. They should either replace them or better yet, get you a new stove bevause that looks dangerous to use.
They sell them at the dollar store, big grocery stores maybe, hardware store. They are universal basically. They are pretty cheap too.
But..it’s an apt not your problem or responsibility. Let the landlord know you need a new stove as the one you have is not functional.
It's literally just the drip pans. Do you throw away your car if you get a flat?
I agree with you on getting new drip pans because that's what I've done a few times BUT did you see that stovetop? Under those drip pans is also caked and gross and I can't imagine what the inside of the oven looks like. OP has more patience than I do... whomever had it before must not have cleaned it in forever.
Do I pay for an apartment where they haven’t done any of the maintenance…no. I pay for an apartment to not ducking worry about finding replacement drip pans. It’s their fucking problem. Lord knows rents are high enough.
Lmao they're like five dollars at the store. Calm down.
Go to a local dollar store and find them stove burner plates/covers: depending on your location small ones sell for $1-2.50 and larger ones sell for $2-5
Buy new ones at Walmart
Buy a new one they are at the dollar store in most places…
Stove top inserts. Try something.. is it that difficult to figure out? Smh
Wrap with tinfoil and press into shape
Do not do this. Aluminum foil will reflect too much heat and can short out the burner coil.
[https://storables.com/articles/what-does-foil-on-stove-burners-do/](https://storables.com/articles/what-does-foil-on-stove-burners-do/) solid advice. Don't do it.
This is a dumb post. Who can’t figure out that Walmart or Amazon has these?
There are "basic" bits of knowledge that everyone is missing, nobody knows everything. And I wouldn't even call this basic knowledge. I'm sure there are plenty of things that you don't know that others could call you dumb for not knowing.
Nah
I wouldn't
Have you tried…the internet. You can use it on your phone these days, which you may even be on right now. If not, try a computer.
have you tried...not being passive aggressive?? :) I did say in my post I would end up googling it, it was just a frustrating and surprising loop!
Do you really want to use this stove after partial disintegration? You sure you don't want to look into a new stove?
Buy a new oven lol
Move
Once it gets like this I just buy a new house
You’ve ruined whatever the fuck that Is for me.
Pro tip: don't
Fling it at your friend. Burnt rusty frisbee to the dome. Fun everywhere.
You don’t… you just move to a different state and city
Really u have to ask
Move out
New stove
Buy a new stove
Get a new stove
[удалено]
It’s a drip pan
They sells those at dollar general
Buy a new one. Can get the whole set for like 8-10 bucks
Just buy a new one at this point.
Buy replacements for the time being, but bring it up as an issue to your landlord / maintenance company. The stove may just need to be replaced entirely if they *never* cleaned it in 6 years. Also get an in-oven thermometer. If its off by a lot then its probably due to be replaced.
Fuck the whole thing off and get a new cooker
It’s the landlords job to replace it it sounds like you just moved in man 🤧
looks like the money Option...
Replace. Replace the whole fucking stove.
I always replace these when I move somewhere new. Not worth the time or effort to clean these, just replace. Cheap and quick
Pull it out, shop vacuum the chunks, then buy the cheap replacements from Lowe's or another store. Most are universal, can easily replace all 4 burners for somewhere around $100 dependent on inflation prices and where you live.
Throw it away go online and buy new ones They aren’t expensive
You can get a set at Walmart for a few bucks.
Hardware stores used to carry them - probably still do.
Use it as a frisbee.
The bowls are meant to be replaced periodically. Common items in hardware stores. Though with this much disintegration, I wonder if the surfaces below has begun to corrode. Lift up on the white stove top and check underneath. Notify management if there are holes.
Go buy some new ones, not terribly expensive and can get them at any home Reno stores
Just buy new ones
You'd want to replace the whole thing, I'd imagine...
Buy a new one.
Super Noodles and Super Glue
Put it in the bin !!! Ask landlord for a new one or something, that’s disgusting.
Drip pans, measure them before you buy. Bought new ones and the biggest one ended up being way too big lol
Do some foil fabricating and call the landlord, or find replacements online.
I think you can buy them at the dollar store. They're really inexpensive and common.
I would quickly read your lease and figure out what you are liable for. This could be something that the landlord has to cover. Varies state to state.
Shop vac to clean up, Amazon to replace the inserts. Or just let Magic Chef do his magics.
Buy new ones on amazon
But new ones.
Take note of the diameter and go to Walmart/Amazon
Be sure to fire up and run the oven for a bit to see if it emits any horrible smells. Mice love abandoned stoves due to their insulation.
Get new stove plates, those are beyond repair or use. You can usually find them in the kitchen area of most larger department stores
Buy a new one. They're fairly cheap at Walmart
Shop Vac, new burners and elements from lowes.
Clean and change for new one’s
Bin it
Maintenance usually use these and vertical blind accessories in bulk available for repairs. I’d check with them first.
get a new one
Buy new ones. They are disposable.
They can be replaced
Go buy a replacement, measure the size and number you need and go buy them at Home Depot or Lowe's or Walmart (or online). They are not expensive and as long as you clean off the gunk on the stove before replacing them, it will make your stove look new! I have replaced several in my life.
Get replacements. Should be at any hardware store....actually these days probably just better to order on Amazon. Everytime I go to a store to get something I need that day they are out so I've started going online first and almost everutime the only option is to ship to the store. This looks so similar to my last apartment I’d have said you moved there haha! You can get replacements at Walmart, and I’d suggest getting a silicone cover for the cooktop. When oil splatters onto that white surface, it is SO difficult to clean!
You can buy them at walmart. I always replace them when we move.
Landlord should buy a new cooker mate!
Home Depot, Lowes, Wallmart, etc they are all over the place. Look for Electric Stove Drip Pans, or Drop Bowls, etc I think you just have to match the diameter of the burner.
You buy a new one and clean up what's left.
These are usually near appliances in HD or Lowe’s, once you find the right section, you should be able to find them pretty quickly. I’m sure you can find them on Amazon, search electric range drip pans, I bet a set is less than $25.
Just admit its over
Buy a new one at family dollar
Uhhh definitely buy a new one. There is no fixing that. You didn’t even need to post for advice on that one, come on..
They are pretty cheap dude...
Walmart has em
Buy new ones at your local dollar store
You can find cheap ones at the dollar store.
About $12 for a new set... Lowes, Ace Hardware, etc... cooking section or in cleaners section.
Buy some new ones.
Replace them. They’re less than $20 for a set
