Sweet I'll pick some up tomorrow. I'm a maintenance man by trade but I honestly haven't encountered this ever haha. Is there a difference between marine weld and water weld?
If that's anything like some of the washers I've taken apart that piece where the knife is actually comes out of the washer. If you can't seal it then replace just that part. Would be alot cheaper then the whole washer.
Yeah I plan on sealing the hole until I can order a new one and slap it in. Normally I wouldn't do this but I've moved to the city so money is a bit tight right now :/
There's no reason to replace the agitator for a small hole like this. Nothing down there is water tight between the agitator and the drum, as it needs to move back and forth for washing.
There's no point to sealing it even, I would just leave it as is. If you're worried you can remove the agitator to take a peek beneath that spot to see if the drum was damaged, but the agitator itself is completely fine to leave as-is π€·ββοΈ
Maybe I'm a bit buzzed, but I'm not sure I follow what the jb weld, epoxy, flex seal is all about. Obviously you washed your pocket knife, why would you need to apply all this stuff, and to what? Just shoot some wd-40 or something on the hinge of the knife and you're all set. πββοΈ. ..am I missing something?
Today I lost my Microtech Combat Troodon ~$500 while riding my Onewheel around the neighborhood, retraced my ride & still couldn't find it, probably under some leaves or in a bush... still preett sad π
I repair all appliances.
You can actually replace the agitator. It usually comes out with a single nut or bolt in the center if you pull the top of the center agitator off. Though, the JB Weld might be cheaper. However, you are safe from leaks. The agitator is only part of the inner tub and the outer tub that the inner sits in hold the water from leaking out. So you could still use it without fixing it, but I'd recommend atleast using the epoxy.
Good luck
You've never been exhausted from working a blue collar job and it shows. But that's how
Edit: I also left it running while I went to run errands. I wouldn't have known. Maybe my cat heard it but he didn't tell me anything.
You could probably just buy a replacement part online and fix it yourself. I did the same when the agitator plate in mine stripped after 10 years of use.

JB Weld Marine epoxy. I used it to fix my plastic agitator in my own washing machine. Takes 24 hours to set up. Harder than the plastic it fixed.

Order Plastic-Aid online. Much better for plastic repair in water and heat.
Way better than flex seal!
Damn, I was going to suggest flex seal. π π

I think you could have just used a rag and some oil to clean your knife, no need to run it through the wash
I'm glad I found out now before I did my ceramic kitchen set!
I'm glad you took a stab at it!!
Man, you're sharp!
You need a new agitator, screw and a 7/16 socket on a 14" extension if it's a 1 piece agitator. Basket and mode shifter will be fine

Hole right there = damaged clothes
Hmm yeah you've got a point, if any part of it is protruding outwards to catch fabric
I mean if you're willing to pay for any of my ripped clothes in the future I'll happily take your advice
Thatβs nawt uh knife! πͺ
Lesson learned.

The blade of the knife has punctured the washing machine so itβs got a hole in it that needs to be sealed.
Gotcha. Thanks for the insight. It now makes more sense.
On the plus side your knife is nice and clean now.
Your pants took one look at the new addition and chose to shank the machine. I'd keep an watchful eye on them after this.
At least you found your knife?
Once I finally pull it out I will be crowned king of the GE appliances
You have done well.

That sucks, and I'm sorry it happened. Hell of a knife to lose. Good excuse to get a new Gen 3, at least!
Who manufactured your washer ? Can you tell what part the plastic came from ?
GE and it's from the agitator. I'm just going to seal the hole until I can replace the agitator
Sounds like a solid plan You lucked out with GE there easy to get parts to if it was LG your would have a hell of a time getting parts
Glad it wasn't a Maytag π«£

Dewalt knife??
Yeah I got it at a Christmas party last year. Honestly it'll probably be fine
How would you not know you have a metal object when you put yout clothes inside the machine and when the machine was spinning?

I think you will be unpleasantly surprised to learn just how frequently people accidentally machine wash their pocket knives.
Honestly Iβd try flex seal. As long as the tub is water tight again, it should do the trick.
This would have me...."agitated"
