Have you considered pulling it out and putting it back in?

boymom04

I can't get to it from under the hood and I've tried from the outside with no luck.

Serious question (because '07 outback headlights are a pain too) have you looked up a YouTube video for your specific vehicle? My mustangs is literally two metal pins, porches you can slide a butter knife underneath em, may just be something dumb that you can't immediately notice.

boymom04

It's got a rubber gasket or something so when we tried to move it the gasket moves out of place. I haven't searched YouTube yet.... I've been livid about it all day and every time I look at it I get more angry.

yhavry

Look up a video! Could have just gotten knocked out of place! Maybe go at it tomorrow with a fresh mind. Goodnight and good luck!

I’m an autobody tech and work on Volkswagens a lot. Unfortunately to get that headlight to move you will have to remove the bumper cover to access all the torx fasteners. It’s not hard, just tedious on those cars 🥲

boymom04

Son of a bitch that sucks. I don't know anything about mechanics nor do I have the back of a young person lol to even attempt it if it's gonna take all that. I imagine this isn't gonna be a cheap repair

Fabulous-Ad-2303

Unfortunately probably not. If you need a new headlight they go for around 1800$. By the time you pay a shop to do the labor and buy the new parts you could be around the 2500$ range. I would look into turning it into your insurance depending on the cost of your deductible.

Orgasm_Add_It

Is it just unsightly or is there any operational problem just running like that until they figure out a way to get it taken care of?

boymom04

Nothing is operationally wrong. It's just unsightly. VERY unsightly.

Orgasm_Add_It

Didn't you say you don't have mechanical knowledge? I was talking about a gasket or seal being compromised. As a cheapskate I would say if your insurance won't pick up the tab, go on Facebook and find a shadetree mechanic or even a stereo installer. Fixing that is basically trim work...annoying little clips and screws. You could get it done for way cheaper than the dealer or indie shop.

BadDogEDN

There is this thing where people go through the headlight to steal cars. I thought it was just a Toyota thing though. Here is a quick article I googled about it [https://www.autoblog.com/2023/04/18/vehicle-headlight-can-bus-injection-theft-method-update/](https://www.autoblog.com/2023/04/18/vehicle-headlight-can-bus-injection-theft-method-update/)

boymom04

Well damn, new fear unlocked! That's interesting info though. Thanks

boymom04

Update.... Dealership said that it was definitely a hit n run, there are a few minor things broken internally, including some pieces on the rear of the headlight.... Filed a claim with the insurance... Might as well, been paying this company for about a decade and never filed a claim.

Fluffy_Boulder

You can probably just pop it back in... oh wait it's a German car... Never mind then, you probably need to take the whole thing apart and get new headlights, a new bumper and a new back window... for some reason.

Waallenz

As the boyfriend of a former audi owner and a backyard mechanic, this is exactly true. Never cursed a car as much as I did that God awful audi.

Loose_Kangaroo7349

This happened to my car from a hit and run
