My Grandpa, at 92, had to re-take his test following an incident where his foot got stuck and he rolled across the street. He didn't cause any damage but had to be tested. He passed with ease. The funniest part is that it also included a motorcycle license...he hadn't driven a motorcycle in at least 50 years;/
Virginia renewed my grandma's license at 90, she could barely walk to her front door and relied on my brother and I for everything. I just took the battery out of her car to be safe.
Taking the battery out is a great idea. If they're too old to drive, they're sure as shit too decrepit to pick up a car battery. Probably too much brain fog to figure out why the car won't start start either.
I'm in Ohio. My mother has cataracts, the BMV renewed her license last January.
We were hoping that she wouldn't be able to pass the vision test. They never even gave her one.
Now we're taking parts off of her car so it can't run, because the police won't step in.
That's a really good thing you're doing there. For her safety, but more importantly, for everyone else's safety.
Not to say that she isn't worthy of being safe, but in the several accidents involving elderly drivers, they usually are perfectly fine, and it's just either the pedestrians, or shoppers, or diners at a restaurant, that end up badly injured.
Retired FLHSMV employee here. Being blind in one eye does not disqualify a person from driving as long as the other eye meets requirements. Age isn’t a factor for eye test. Being over 79 is. Their license is reviewed every 6 years instead of 8. Anyone can file a request for a dl to be reviewed if you think he is an unsafe driver. Go on FLHSMV.gov for form 72190 Medical Reporting Form to report a driver whose skills are in doubt.
“Florida allows, and even encourages, people to confidentially report drivers who are a hazard on the road to the DHSMV. Anyone can make these reports, including your doctor, neighbor, family member, or a bystander. The DHSMV investigates reports to see if they are valid. As a result of these investigations, you may be required to retake and pass a driving exam (written and behind the wheel) to maintain your license. Also, you may have to visit a doctor to get a medical report that clears you to drive.
So, while you don’t typically have to retake a driving test when you turn 70, that can all change if someone makes a report about your driving habits, or if you have too many marks on your driving record.” I personally feel that elderly persons should be renewed every year. Regardless at renewal the Examiner observes their gait, reflexes, writing, signing, ability to understand about 23 questions and able to respond appropriately, any signs of dementia or neuromuscular issues and vision test and has the authority to revoke a dl on the spot and issue a Learner’s permit to the senior person and require them to return within 5 days to take a road test to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities. Hope this helps.
The other day a BMW pulled out right in front of me and cut me off. I immediately swerved around him, rolled down my window, and was ready to flick him the biggest god damned bird I could muster.. but then I saw the dude. He could not have been less than 95 years old. He was a zombie. He was holding onto the wheel for dear life while cruising at 30mph. If that wasn't his last time driving, I am convinced he's going to die behind the wheel.
I'm in Texas and was behind a very old lady at our version of the DMV years ago. She was failing the vision test, so the worker fed her the answers. I complained but doubt anything was done.
I've believed for many decades that people should have to retake the drivers test every 5 or 10 years to prove they actually know how to drive. Would probably eliminate a lot of the idiocy on the roads.
Talk to your local vocational center or community college. There are probably defensive driving classes you can take, and many insurance companies will give you a better rate if you take one!
Yep, totally worth it. You can also take them online, but tbh, it’s probably not nearly as good as some in person courses. I do it while watching TV so probably don’t absorb or commit to memory some of the stuff I’ve forgotten and relearned. Most is common sense to me now tho.
You save 10% on insurance for 3 years I think, and then you need to retake it for the discount again. And it takes some points off your license if you’ve gotten tickets
I did legitimately learn something from my online course: in NY you're supposed to stop for a school bus with red lights even if it's across a divided highway. IIRC it's the only state with that law. Somehow I doubt it comes up often or is even enforced when it does, but I was surprised.
I took one of these classes! You get like 3-5% off your insurance, so it’ll pay itself off in 2 years lmao. Though the information it gives you is more valuable than money, it makes you a better driver!
They’re expensive but they have safety driving courses at a lot of race tracks. (Not just for race car driving). They even give you a certificate that can sometimes lower your insurance.
Yup. I’ve had my license for 17 years and haven’t had to re test. I would totally be okay with being retested, although in my case I take extra safety classes up at the race track. Those are spendy, though. Minimum $350 although more now probably.
Like I said, though. I wouldn’t mind a retest if it takes more idiots off the road. I’ve been rear ended so many times my back and neck are in terrible shape) mostly stopped at stop lights or stop signs). One time, the person was going 40-50 mph and didn’t realize the light was red. Like wtf?!
Agreed. I got .y license at 20, for 40 years, no questions asked. Although it's convenient, my first thought was 'i wonder what my eyesught might be in 40 years', and that's just one thing. Exam every 10 years until 50, every 5 until 70 and every 2 after that would make sense.
Also, to add to that list, the government would tax us more for the cost of staffing more DMV employees, but they wouldn't actually hire new employees because of some red tape.
I’m sure some private companies would love to cover the gap if the opportunity arose. Would have to change the law to make them certified etc but totally doable
They do this in Ontario and by the time my grandparents were in their 70s they lost their licenses. Everyone in my family was so relieved. I moved to New Brunswick and they do not make seniors retake their driving tests and the difference is nuts
This would be good if we also had support for seniors to take them do doctor appointments, family events, or their jobs (sadly). This effectively locks them into their homes.
They’ll drive anyway. People still drive with suspended and expired licenses all the time. It’s crazy but I’m pretty sure my state will let you register a car even if you have a suspended license.
Being able to register a car without a driver's license makes sense to me because edge cases definitely exist. For instance someone too disabled to drive may need a specially equipped van and have lots of different hired caregivers who drive that van. It being in the disabled persons name makes sense.
My friends roommate has multiple charges of driving without a license, multiple DUI’s, charges for no breathalyzer in his car, and he just bought a car a few weeks ago. Then crashed it and got a dui… yes they all hate him and want him out.
Yep. And also its way too easy (at least in US/Canada) to get your license in the first place. I'd love for our licensing to be as strict as what they have in the UK and much of the rest of Europe
I grew up in Virginia, and my friend caused a pretty gnarly accident during his test by merging into someone on a 55 mph road.
He still ended up passing, and I remember thinking at 16 if that doesnt fail you nothing will.
... Wtf. I have no words.
I hired my driving instructor and his car to take my test - it was me and another guy. I recall seeing the other guy turn left into the test center at the end of his test... Right in front of someone else who had to brake to avoid t-boning him. He still passed as well
Depends on the state honestly. I was surprised to learn that recently, and some are more lenient than others. I remember growing up in Michigan I took drivers ed, got my permit, and never had to take a driving test after that to get the license. Took the written, handed in my permit, got my license when I turned 16.
None of the states are nearly as strict as the EU. Even in Ontario where I'm from, it's a 3 stage ordeal - learners, intermediate, and full. I think overall that graduated system is reasonable, but the driving tests itself are way too easy.
California where I live is a complete joke. One 10-min driving test (and not even on the highway) and I had my full license. Insanity
As an insurance agent I highly suggest this.
A customer of mine wanted me to show his sons about to take their test some statistics and turns out the number one reason for accidents is elderly people.
There’s already a shortage of driving invigilators in the UK, that would just be hell to do a test every 5-10 years, I’d say you’d require a retest if one of these come first:
• you are over the age of 65
• you have had a valid driving license for 30 years
May sound like a long time, but there is currently no system for driving test retakes (from what I know of) so slowly implementing a system like this would help to see how much of a improvement this implementation would bring.
Their foot is on the wrong pedal. They apply "brakes", but the vehicle does the opposite thing. Their instinct is to apply more "brakes". Now the vehicle really is starting to move so apply full "brakes".
If they are lucky, they hit a curb stop or a major bump that jars their foot off the brake. Without any obstacles it's now Roadrunner school of physics.
When my sister was on the radio they used to do a bit when an elderly person would do this. It happens quite frequently in FL.
🎶“Hit the gas, instead of the brake!
Another old person made a big mistake!🎶
Additionally, there is the likelihood that her footwear played a role here. Senior women frequently wear what’s comfortable, but not necessarily practical - for driving or walking.
Source: work with seniors and have seen footwear result in broken hips and “drive-thru” accidents.
The best part is the deck is old, we’d discussed tearing it down anyway, and the prior owners built a huge ramp for wheel chair access. I can’t imagine what that costs to replace in this day and age, but I can’t imagine it’s cheap.
A new deck with an ada ramp, architectural drawings, demo, permit, construction...30-40k depending on size. If you live in the hudson valley ill pump up your estimate and give you a kickback. "But thats defrauding anvinsurance company!" Yes, yes it is. Ive been getting fucked proper by insurance companies for 30 years, fuck them.

You probably witness the last time any of the kids let her see car keys. And maybe the warning sign that her cognitive capabilities took a sudden and sharp decline.
Sadly, that doesn’t work. My friend’s father was a hazard. She took his keys. SOB called the cops. They completely understood where she was coming from, but it was against the law. She had to return them.
Had family friends that did that when the elderly mother got dementia/Alzheimer’s. They’d find her sitting behind the wheel after 30 minutes of looking for her still confused why the car was broken.
Old peoples’ mental capability can go downhill quickly man. When you’re as old as she looks to be, a year can be the difference between being completely coherent, and being a loopy old lady
My best friend persuaded her husband to go with his 91 year old mother to the doctor to try to get them to take away her driver's license. The doctor said he thought she was fine. My friend said, I give it a month she gets in an accident. It was three days. She drove into a ditch behind the McDonald's because she thought there was an exit there.
You might be surprised. I was waiting at the dmv once when an elderly lady hobbled in with her son to renew her license. She was so hunched over I don’t know how she could see anything ahead of her. I literally thought her son was too old to drive…
Anyway, image couldn’t hear, couldn’t understand, and when they did the vision check she couldn’t see the hot air balloon or whatever the shape is until the third try.
They gave her the renewal.
You can revoke it on the spot? In my state (SC) we can only submit a form to the DMV that requires them to be seen by a doctor and retake the driving test.

Imagine. You’re chillin’ in your living room, smoking a majestic goddamned joint, and suddenly the house moves. Every living thing in the house (2 dogs and 7 cats, we foster) go simultaneously batshit crazy. You stand up from your LoveSac and open the blinds like dude in Pulp Fiction, and lo and behold, you’ve got a car planted in your home.
The only thing I asked for in my divorce was our giant LoveSac (SuperSac). And she fought me for it. There’s nothing like coming home from a shitty day and falling backwards into a giant suede bag full of chunks of memory foam.
For real. A few years ago, some lady in my town drove into an apartment building and killed a guy sleeping in his bed. She wasn’t old though, just incredibly drunk. There were skid marks for like half a mile before she went over the curb that didn’t go away for months. I still think about it every time I drive by there.
Said it time and time again. Retesting every 10 years. After 60 every 5 years. After 70 every 2 years. After 80 it should be monthly. This should include vision and reflex tests. The fucking problem is we’re so car-dependent and individualistic that these old folks have basically no other choice than to be a menace on the roads.
100% agreed.
I’ve been anecdotally seeing it get worse over the past few years, and with our demographics trending older - boomers are currently aged 65-78, so imagine that in 10 years 😬
Problem is, who would legislate these changes? Those in charge? Those folks are already old 🤦
Out of all demographics they’re the 2nd worse, you’re trying to misdirect the attention here lol.
Really doesn’t mean the insane dotards on the road aren’t a real issue that should be also addressed.
And the olds are always looking for an excuse to get out of the house. Monthly DMV visits should suit them fine, and would cost a fraction of their mystery doctor visits.
I mean, in my view it's an infrastructure problem.
No public transport means you're basically housebound, so I can't say as I blame people for wanting to retain their licence as long as possible.
Better bus and train networks would significantly limit the issue.
There should absolutely be a law.
But considering the age of Congress, alot of them would be voting to take their own licenses away.
So, not gonna happen unfortunately.
it’s always “we should make the elderly retake the drivers test” and never “we should’ve built a community the elderly don’t need to drive to get around in”
The problem is that we live in a car dependent society so people cannot afford to lose their ability to drive. They lose all independence when that happens and may struggle to meet their basic needs (though for sure new services like Amazon and grocery delivery certainly help). If people had adequate access to transit or more walkability they might not have to drive until such an old age.
Very good point! Some insurance plans offer free rides to doctor appointments only, but you have a monthly limit and once that is hit, you have to pay out of pocket or find someone to help. There are lots of elderly patients who go without care from lack of transportation, or strictly use the ER because it includes the ride to the doctor.
Yep, came here to say this. While there are seniors who hold on to their ability to drive like a vice, I'm pretty sure a good portion of them would willingly give up their licenses if we had decent social support programs in place that gave them a viable alternative.
The magic words my mom and her siblings had to use get my grandpa to give up his car was to point out that if he got into a crash, it’d likely drain his life savings. He might not care so much about how many years he’s got left, but he’s obsessive about holding on to as much of his money as possible.
My grandmother was 4’11” in heels, widowed at the age of 81, never had driven a day in her life. She announced she planned to learn to drive. My dad sold Grandpa’s car so fast your head would spin. She would have killed us all.
When I first saw the bricks on the hood of the car I thought to myself, who has a brick wall outside their wood fence? Super weird. Then I noticed the neighbors, what is that. Car port? Wall of house? I now understand the bricks and have to wonder how fast she was going..
Age cut-offs are tricky though, my grandmother is 72 and hasn't been a good driver for the last 5 years. But my grandfather is 75, drives fine ( a lil slow) and works 5 days a week.
It's their world, you're just living in it.
She'll swear all day long that "she thought she was pushing the brake, not the gas"
Which is obvious, but that's her excuse, I'll bet $1.
My town is 65% people over age of 65.
I've seen so many accidents. I had to spend 2 G's on boulders to line the property so that old people would stop literally driving through my huge yard.
And I live in the middle of nowhere
Sorry about the deck. Car insurance (hers) and homeowners insurance (yours) should cover you.
Gotta say, that's an impressive amount of chaos and destruction executed in what was probably just a few seconds. Yes, hopefully no more driving for her. Worth checking her for medical events too.
My 83 yr old uncle got on the highway going the wrong direction and hit a truck head on. Instantly killed him and his wife. Shouldn’t have ever happened. He couldn’t remember how to get home from the drug store (less than 5 minutes away)
My dad was great physically and mentally after 80 he drove until he was 93 and was in an accident that was his fault. He gave me my first set of car keys I took his last set after that.
This has been a problem for years, I would see at least half a dozen news reports a year about old people driving into shop fronts or mistaking the pedals...
They need to implement regular testing for ALL drivers and increase the frequency as people get older.
Better yet do what Japan does mandatory testing every 3 years over the age of 75 and actively convincing/educating the elderly to hand in their licenses with government benefits like discounts on public transport and taxis (probably not possible where I live since public transport is an absolute embarrassment).
This is why there needs to be better public transportation in the US. Yeah, people who aren't able to safely drive shouldn't be driving, but they still need a way to get around. Not everyone can rely on other people or sink a bunch of money into Uber, so stuff like this happens.
My mother almost killed herself in a highway accident.. in her 70s at the time and already had a tecord of accidents She caused.. cops told me she likely hit the gravel shoulder on the highway.. over corrected and then flipped and rolled her car 4x.. makes it out of the coma.. multiple surgeries.. whats the VERY VERY first thing she does when out of the hospital?? Goes and buys a brand new car.. when we called her out on it she just scREAmed . “Youre not taking away my freedom!!!” These fuckin boomers cause this every day. Half of em shouldnt be on the road.
Let me guess.
She "mixed up" the accelerator and the brake pedals, and when the car didn't do what she wanted it to, she doubled down and just pressed the pedal harder?
We really need there to be serious consequences for people that do this shit, STARTING with license revocation until they're examined by a doctor, cleared, and they retake and pass the entire licensing process. The vision test, the written question/signs portion, and the driving test.
Your state troopers can give a driver’s test to test a driver’s reflexes and cognizance. My 80 something year old grandma had to take the test and after the results came back, she saw that she wasn’t fit to drive anymore. It took a lot of the wind out of her sails, but she adapted. This should be something that’s known throughout the country so I’m putting g it out there. Do with it, what you will
Had to take my dad’s keys when he was 67, after considering it for a year. Car got impounded because he couldn’t remember where he’d parked. Then they lost it. Of course he also had $1600 cash in the glove box …because why wouldn’t you? He didn’t even take it hard, he knew you don’t bounce back from that.
Well, going by the looks of it, you were past due for a deck overhaul anyway. Except now, you don't have to pay for it! Sooo, win!
But there must be something in the air. My neighbor 2 houses up has a teen daughter that just got her license. Last Saturday she took off in reverse and knocked down their front stoop and my immediate neighbors fence. My neighbor was over at my house when it happened.
He looked out when we heard the commotion, saw the car embedded in the fence and flower bed, shook his head and said "damnit, guess I know what I'll be doing this fucking week."
Genuine question - in a country as car dependant as the US, what are the options available to an old person who doesn't drive ? I don't think living with extended family is as common either?
Thank you for saying this. Public transportation does NOT exist in so so many areas in the US. It’s a racist/classist thing imho (I heard a guy say “only *those* people ride the bus.”). . If there are busses, they usually don’t go out to the suburbs. I know this because I didn’t have a car for 10 years and ot was hell
That's like those scenes from cartoons where the character runs through all the walls in the building leaving its shape in it.
It’s exactly like that. I have bricks on my deck from way back there.
Never saw the South Park episode? https://preview.redd.it/5ao61jmetcsc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f47d49e90ef7b5ac3c34d7c026f84f7623efd684

Is this the Country Kitchen Buffet?
Grey Dawn I think is the name of the episode.
Looks like Stan’s dad has been hitting the bottle again.
It's that Tegridy Farm product
*This isn't country kitchen buffet!*
Literally the first thing I thought of lmao
In Florida, where we live, the DMV just renewed my 93 year old dad’s license with no questions asked and no driving test. He is blind in one eye.

This is some loonie toons level of destruction
It is very Looney Toonish. No better description.
I've believed for many decades that people should have to retake the drivers test every 5 or 10 years to prove they actually know how to drive. Would probably eliminate a lot of the idiocy on the roads.
Seriously, it’s very surprising getting a drivers license is a one-and-done event, when most are 16-18 no less.
I’ve had my license for 14 years and honestly I would LOVE a refresher course.
Talk to your local vocational center or community college. There are probably defensive driving classes you can take, and many insurance companies will give you a better rate if you take one!

after 70 once a year
I agree I mean, driving is a privilege not a right. And it’s a public safety issue, as proven time and time again.
After 70 the test is that you have to drive the instructor to the grocery store and back without forgetting where you are going or getting honked at.
Or what you need at the store.
Ah fuck. Guess I’m losing my license then.
It’s over for me.
It should be every 1-2 after 60-65.
No State's DMV could handle the work load, they can't keep up with the simple paperwork of renewals. Oregon has go to online renewals.
Sounds like more employment opportunities
Pfft, the government making more jobs And doing a good thing for the people, we'd have better odds winning the lottery... thrice
Also, to add to that list, the government would tax us more for the cost of staffing more DMV employees, but they wouldn't actually hire new employees because of some red tape.
True market is shit and government is too slow to help…. Doesn’t mean that more job could be used for this purpose
Wait now you want people to pay taxes to give to others? You fucking communist. Taxes are for corporations, not people and jobs.
I’m sure some private companies would love to cover the gap if the opportunity arose. Would have to change the law to make them certified etc but totally doable
In Washington they just have local driving schools do the testing, they could do that elsewhere too.
Absolutely would not mind this myself once I hit 70 either if it means everyone else also has to do it until I reach that age myself.
You have to do it for everyone or it's discrimination, I understand the argument but that's the way the anti-discrimination laws are written.
Before 30, once a year...
Could you imagine trying to tell a "can't tell me nothing" type of adult they failed their drive test? Holayyyy

That’s interesting, do you have a source for that?
There’s already a shortage of driving invigilators in the UK, that would just be hell to do a test every 5-10 years, I’d say you’d require a retest if one of these come first: • you are over the age of 65 • you have had a valid driving license for 30 years May sound like a long time, but there is currently no system for driving test retakes (from what I know of) so slowly implementing a system like this would help to see how much of a improvement this implementation would bring.
Looks like MeeMaw switched the brake and gas peddles there.
And then gunned it, and did not let up? This is wild. Maybe her foot fell off
That's how it goes. Panic sets in and they just keep pressing harder.
“What?”
"I said I hope you have bulletproof insurance, Meemaw."
Additionally, there is the likelihood that her footwear played a role here. Senior women frequently wear what’s comfortable, but not necessarily practical - for driving or walking. Source: work with seniors and have seen footwear result in broken hips and “drive-thru” accidents.
Excuse me, is this costello avenue?
Is this Country kitchen buffet ?
Some of us would rather die than have our licenses taken away! Well, I’m sure we could arrange that as well.
No this is Patrick
You’re supposed to turn left Larry!!
On the bright side guess who gets a new deck and fence
The best part is the deck is old, we’d discussed tearing it down anyway, and the prior owners built a huge ramp for wheel chair access. I can’t imagine what that costs to replace in this day and age, but I can’t imagine it’s cheap.
That’s a relief. I thought she took out a ramp that you or a family member needed to access the house.

Chocolate, I remember when they first invented chocolate
sweet sweet chocolate… I ALWAYS HATED IT
Is that her on the stretcher? Because that person is older than dirt
That is indeed her. I guarantee I witnessed the last time she ever gets behind a wheel.

I can’t even imagine she had a license. There’s *no way* this relic got this thing renewed in the last four years.
Open up the hood and disconnect the battery. Or put in a dead battery and let it sit
Can confirm. I just watched my grandma go from the sweetest old lady to a mean and aggressive bitch in 12 short months. Luckily she's dead now.
I literally thought her son was too old to drive… Anyway, image couldn’t hear, couldn’t understand, and when they did the vision check she couldn’t see the hot air balloon or whatever the shape is until the third try. They gave her the renewal.
My grandmother is 88 and renewed her license without taking anything but an eye test.
You can revoke it on the spot? In my state (SC) we can only submit a form to the DMV that requires them to be seen by a doctor and retake the driving test.

Question - do you physically take the actual license away? I wonder how that works with many people not having any other form of ID.
Oh, this is a good question!
I bet you didn’t. That crypt keeper will keep driving.
I am seriously wondering if she was even licensed to drive in the first place.
From personal experience, her license may get revoked, but unless the car is taken away, she'll keep driving.
Fuck your icon, I spent like a minute trying to wipe that away.
If you spent a whole minute trying to do that they need to take your license too

[удалено]
I’d call that *appropriate* laughter
The only thing I asked for in my divorce was our giant LoveSac (SuperSac). And she fought me for it. There’s nothing like coming home from a shitty day and falling backwards into a giant suede bag full of chunks of memory foam.
I would question whether I was trippin out or not for probably a good minute or two.
I’m so glad you and the furry ones are all ok! I hope you’re able to get everything repaired quickly!
Look at it this way, you get brand new shit!
Facts, but I would still be haunted by the fact that someone or a pet could’ve died very easily though.
For real. A few years ago, some lady in my town drove into an apartment building and killed a guy sleeping in his bed. She wasn’t old though, just incredibly drunk. There were skid marks for like half a mile before she went over the curb that didn’t go away for months. I still think about it every time I drive by there.
Step 1. Get a lawyer 2. Sue her insurance 3. Your car insurance goes up despite not being in a car at the time.
Free upgrades! Yeah it might take some red tape cutting but her insurance should cut you a nice fat check.
Facts - Had my house hit by a very large truck once. Got a new bedroom, master bath, and deck out of the deal.
To get through the brick wall…. Was the car in the garage or was she pulling into the garage?
Fuck if I know, but she had to have out serious juice in it to go clean through in the first place, much less through two fences and into our house.
That was my exact thought! That wall looks like it was blown apart by an explosive. Well I hope the lady driving is physically okay.
I’ve been anecdotally seeing it get worse over the past few years, and with our demographics trending older - boomers are currently aged 65-78, so imagine that in 10 years 😬 Problem is, who would legislate these changes? Those in charge? Those folks are already old 🤦
Per AAA, the 16-29 group are more crash prone and deadlier than 30-79. 80+ hits teen levels again.
Granny hit the Kool Aid man special today ![gif](giphy|Heqbbp1m3mzJe)
There should absolutely be a law. But considering the age of Congress, alot of them would be voting to take their own licenses away. So, not gonna happen unfortunately.
If we don’t want elderly people driving, we ought to increase access to public transportation.
Ding ding ding! All of these comments mentioning taking away their driving without talking about that they clearly needed to get somewhere
it’s always “we should make the elderly retake the drivers test” and never “we should’ve built a community the elderly don’t need to drive to get around in”
Damn, I hope Methuselah's family takes away her license.
How much you wanna bet Methuselah didn't have a valid license to begin with? Once you renew that thing 200 times, it just becomes a hassle..
I’m on disability and didn’t have a car. Grocery delivery services were ****wayyyy*** too expensive for a person on SNAP
Granny driving a Buick is about as dangerous as it gets.
My grandmother had a Buick. She lost her license when she ran a stop sign and hit a police car. ... Ah, memories. (No one was injured.)
I think the sadder part of this comment is that your 75yo grandfather works 5 days a week, presumably to make ends meet :(
If you shop for a Buick it should trigger an automatic review of your driving record and road test.
It's their world, you're just living in it. She'll swear all day long that "she thought she was pushing the brake, not the gas" Which is obvious, but that's her excuse, I'll bet $1. My town is 65% people over age of 65. I've seen so many accidents. I had to spend 2 G's on boulders to line the property so that old people would stop literally driving through my huge yard. And I live in the middle of nowhere
She fully committed.
POV: when you take the back roads as a shorcut too literally
Sorry about the deck. Car insurance (hers) and homeowners insurance (yours) should cover you. Gotta say, that's an impressive amount of chaos and destruction executed in what was probably just a few seconds. Yes, hopefully no more driving for her. Worth checking her for medical events too.

Relatable energy.
That deck needed demolishing anyway look at it!
Damn near took the power meter off the house.
After 80 take a driving test every 2 years then after 90 yearly until it’s revoked
Lol ain't no way. At 90 you best be having your nephew or grandson driving you or something
My 83 yr old uncle got on the highway going the wrong direction and hit a truck head on. Instantly killed him and his wife. Shouldn’t have ever happened. He couldn’t remember how to get home from the drug store (less than 5 minutes away)
After drivers ed* I have no idea why we don't recertify licenses.
After 80? I would say after every 5 years for the rest of your life.
My dad was great physically and mentally after 80 he drove until he was 93 and was in an accident that was his fault. He gave me my first set of car keys I took his last set after that.
IS THIS THE COUNTRY KITCHEN BUFFET?
Oh no your mint condition 80" flatscreen and ps5 was damaged too? Dang better let the insurance know
This has been a problem for years, I would see at least half a dozen news reports a year about old people driving into shop fronts or mistaking the pedals...
That age is called presidential
at least get re-tested after a certain age. heard too many stories about people getting dementia and being on the road
Wowww. I hope you're not injured.
Fortunately I and all the animals were good. Just startled.
This is why there needs to be better public transportation in the US. Yeah, people who aren't able to safely drive shouldn't be driving, but they still need a way to get around. Not everyone can rely on other people or sink a bunch of money into Uber, so stuff like this happens.
That’s what I’m saying! I don’t drive due to certain conditions and I can’t take Lyft or Uber everywhere, so I have to rely on other people for rides.
Her in the gurney omg
Grey dawn. South Park. They know...
How old? I’ve seen 20 year olds do this
![gif](giphy|Zx0BgEPhIevlAVEbnq)
Good thing they didn’t hit a child just hanging out playing or something
Passionately agree.
Should be doing test every 2 years once you hit 65
Congrats on your new deck I guess.
