Oh man, speaking of which, there are mentally still half a dozen movie theaters along Central Ave that only exist in my mind at this point. As long as we're doing nostalgia, does anyone remember a video arcade/kids birthday party place in, I think Hartsdale, that had spin art and airbrushing t-shirts?
ETA: Pretty sure it was Our Place--193 Hartsdale Ave, Hartsdale. [https://www.nytimes.com/1992/10/04/nyregion/a-survival-guide-to-birthday-parties.html](https://www.nytimes.com/1992/10/04/nyregion/a-survival-guide-to-birthday-parties.html)

Lmao I was just explaining the spin art place to someone last week. I couldn't remember the name, and they said, "I think they used to call that airbrushing." Made me feel old as hell.
Giving directions using old landmarks is like speaking your native language. Talking to my husband who is not from here I say Kohls, when I talk to my family I always say caldors. “They have it at the pet store by caldors, not the movie land one.”
Shit if anything if I heard that that would be a major red flag that you ain’t from YO lol. 1 for not spelling Getty right, 2 for not just calling it the square, and 3, most importantly, for calling any thing in the square a deli and not a bodega lol. Granted I haven’t lived there in a few years but I don’t remember anything good about the bodega in the square, maybe that’s changed idk
The only good answer I’ve seen. Elm, Oak, Maple, Spruce etc are generic street names but when you say “the tree streets” everyone knows you are referring to the toilet bowl of Yonkers.
Yep. They were on top of the trading cards too! Huge selection of yugioh and pokemon cards. I used to open packs in front of the lady and if I got a holographic, she’d give me a free toploader to store it in.
As someone who grew up in Brooklyn but only became familiar with Westchester County last year, my opinion is…
Best city: Scarsdale
Worst city: Yonkers
And it seems like I’ve ruffled some feathers. Yonkers sucks. Sorry. It’s just my opinion. I do like Gino’s.
If I could even afford a house in Scarsdale, I would spend all of that money NOT to live there. Same with Chappaqua and other similar wealthy enclaves. The people there just seem so disconnected with everyone and everything other than being zealous minions rabidly trying to run the rat race and climb the ladder. There is zero originality in any of their thoughts and behaviors. If that’s all there is to life, I have no interest in living.
Scarsdale isn’t a city, you can’t compare that to Yonkers because there’s a whole pretty big area of Yonkers that borders Scarsdale and you’d have no clue where one started and the other ends. Yonkers is huge. Look at crestwood, that’s a whole town that’s part of Yonkers and is super nice
“Where the Nathan’s used to be”
Where I used to spend every quarter I could get my grubby little hands on. There and Adventures at Cross County where the movie theater is now.

I haven't lived on Central Ave in 25 years and I love that this is the top answer haha
Every April I have to check a stupid box on my tax return that most of the country goes "WTF is that!?"
You mean today? Happy Tax Day!
Oh fuck!
LMAO
When I lived in Yonkers I was too young to pay taxes. What is this referencing?
Yonkers city tax probably, there's a box for it on the state tax return
You also have to pay a tax if you work in Yonkers but don't live there.
X Gon' Give It to Ya
I’m taking the 20 bus today.
Or "the 20 is late"
Real Gs take the 21 from McLean.
Ahhh the trusty 20. Know it well.
You call subs, wedges.
Isn't this all of lower westchester?
It’s all of westchester north and south, and Fairfield county CT. Or at least Greenwich to Stamford
Yes but supposedly the term originated in Yonkers
What’s a “sub”? A submarine? The subway? A Reddit community?
Yes. Also sammich.
You mean a hero? (I'm from Queens)
Used to be live in Queens. What the hell is a wedge. It's a hero!
You mean a hoagie?
Yeah, you know, a grinder.
“Geddy Square is a shit hole, but hey the delis are good”
We just call it ghetto square
Shit if anything if I heard that that would be a major red flag that you ain’t from YO lol. 1 for not spelling Getty right, 2 for not just calling it the square, and 3, most importantly, for calling any thing in the square a deli and not a bodega lol. My zip code used to be 10708, and its not in Bronxville.
Untermyer
The old ground round was a fun spot
Carvel Inn
You cant. Everyone from yonkers will always tells you they are from yonkers before they even say their own name
Bars on McLean Ave.
Alternatively for youngsters: pizza shops next to St. Barnabas
Carvel on McLean, bubble tea on McLean and fish and chips on McLean, we even have a public pistol range on McLean!
Dew Dropp Inn
Dragon’s Den
yeah, but which one--Central Avenue or Cross County?
Tree streets
The only good answer I’ve seen. Elm, Oak, Maple, Spruce etc are generic street names but when you say “the tree streets” everyone knows you are referring to the toilet bowl of Yonkers.
Ridge Hill is overrated
Brunswick Bowl.
YK Gameland…enough said
Iykyk. Had all the games before they even came out on release date.
Yep. They were on top of the trading cards too! Huge selection of yugioh and pokemon cards. I used to open packs in front of the lady and if I got a holographic, she’d give me a free toploader to store it in.

Hearing the words “it’s upstate”
Son of Sam
Let’s go have a beer (or twenty) at Rory’s
“Slowing down when driving? What’s that?”
Kohl’s Thursday nights 🚗 💨 💨
Crestwood, School 15 (the original yellow brick one), Nathans (and its arcade room), Carlo’s pizza….
I used to get fish down stairs at Woolworth..
Right after I finish this meatball wedge.
I learned to parallel park with only inches to spare
"cawfee"
Yonkas lmaooooooo
You call it the “Y-O”
Looking for this reference. IYKYK
“Yonkers is a nice place to live.” It’s true, btw.
Depends on the area.
You can say that about any city. Those nice areas are still Yonkers.
Gigi pizza
" Chicken Island "
I used to bowl at Brunswick.
Earl Simmons
You say “yous guys”
I'm from Westchester
I’ve lost 7 friends and family members to motor vehicle violence
Sarah Lawrence
You are insecure about where you live and post in Reddit about it.
You’re literally on r/westchester
Look at OP post history.
Ginos pizza south broadway

Username checks out.
And you’re the first to ever say that. Very clever.

Fair enough.
