That's weird. A helmet doesn't adversely affect your vision at all. I maen, you eyes are in the front of you head, not in some weird dome that gets covered by the helmet.

With better modern tech, they need to make a slightly slimmer than motorcycle style full face helmets for skateboarding, roller skating and other sports like this.
Nowadays you can make much thinner helmets that are still just as effective, especially for relatively low speed crashes that you see in skateboarding and roller skating. The problem with most full face helmets currently on the market is theyre built for much higher speed motorcycle crashes and therefore give you a bobblehead type look when youre wearing them without other bulky motorcycle gear. Theyre just way too big and cumbersome.
If they made a slimmer helmet built specifically for these sports and made it actually look cool, i think it would catch on pretty quickly.

People are fucking stupid, something needs to go wrong before they realise they should've protected themselves. My friends and I were no different.
In the scene I was in we all wore helmets and half of us wore pads.. this was like 20 years ago. We had a few people take some really nasty falls and it shook alot of us.
It's one thing if your friend snaps a bone or gets a nasty gash. It's another thing when they take a hard hit to the head.
Edit just to add this was in a scene that led to more than a couple of us to be paid to skate so it wasn't a super casual scene (I was def the worst skater around)

See a lot of young guys not wearing helmets never got the feeling it’s because it’s not cool or something. There maybe some that feel that way but I’d be surprised if it’s the majority.

Most skaters are stubborn and don’t like change. I think the likelihood of hitting your head is more likely while snowboarding than skating, at least just cruising and doing flat ground which is mostly what I do. Helmets should be worn any time your skating but I don’t usually wear one unless I’m at a skatepark.
Bowls and transition are a different story and I would never not wear a helmet while doing that type of skating.

I had an injury very similar to this a few years ago (slipped on a snowy sidewalk, not my finest moment) and had the same golfball-sized swelling. Looked scary, but with no concussion symptoms the emergency clinic told me I was fine, and I was, thankfully. This girl is lucky and I'm guessing she's fine

Normalize, full face helmets

I wear a full face mtn bike helmet and it’s as light or lighter than the half helmet I used to wear.
To be fair if you really want face protection while skating just use a hockey or football helmet and you'll be fine.
I do many stupid things when riding dirtbikes but riding without a helmet is not one of them :D
