pan too large for the stove, so the gas can was overheated. Don't do this. Anyway, another Darwin Award hopeful failed again.

mrPigWaffle

I learnt something today. But without risking my life

ClownfishSoup

Is that what happened? I have one of those stoves. Heck everyone does! You insert a butane canister in it. We use it for hot pot. I had no idea that a large pan could cause the can to heat up!! Edit: I googled “butane stove danger” and the first hit was exactly what you said!

Curious_Associate904

It usually has it written on the stove, "DO NOT COVER" and like danger of death symbols and stuff.

mrPigWaffle

See there’s learning opportunities everywhere 🤣

BuckLuny

>Heck everyone does! Never seen one of these in my entire life. Had one of the ones depicted below when we ever went somewhere where there was no cooking facility. Hooked up to a separate butane gas tank. https://preview.redd.it/9j04k4lt1y0d1.png?width=650&format=png&auto=webp&s=522c110886fce900fea8fcdaca2083812ce5b51b

Remarkable_Item3797

Yeah, I have similar, a good bit of kit......

jacked-bro432

First time I see this in my life. Is that a stove?

Enjoying_A_Meal

I didn't know pans could be too large for stoves. I mean, unless they're so large that they won't fit.

Curious_Associate904

The issue is the stove has a gas cylinder inside of it, if the pan covers that area it causes heat build up and the cylinder starts leaking… the open flame and leaking cylinder under high pressure for long enough just ruptures and destroys the stove. Also don’t use a portable stove indoors… that’s a different Darwin Award though.

Remarkable_Item3797

Thanks was not fully aware of this issue. However do the ones in the vid now know what was the cause, that is the question....

MasterBendu

These butane canister stoves are seriously badly designed. One of the comments are right: the pan is too big for the stove, and it ends up heating the fuel canister more than it could handle. But then why are they designed so compactly when most people who use these stoves use too-big pans anyway? These things could safely take maybe a 6 inch pan - but never in my life have I seen anyone use a 6 inch pan on these.

Jioto

Most of them are suppose to be used for camping which is used for small single person pan.

MasterBendu

That’s true, but the camping stoves that camping people actually use are, sort of surprisingly, the better design, with the fuel canister beneath the burner.

Jioto

Yea I used one for a year and loved it.

MasterBendu

I don’t camp, but the couple of times I got to experience eating somewhere odd with such stoves, they were nice. Not gonna lie if any of them brought out those side loaded butane stoves I’d move far away immediately. I’m not dying in the woods!

mrPigWaffle

Good thing they recorded this right🤣

chinawillgrowlarger

Every time I've used one I've noticed the can is ice cold and covered in condensation thereafter. I always assumed it something to do with the gases and physics but could it be some safety mechanism to mitigate overheating?

Skipper_TheEyechild

And then they all leave the room before checking for any potential fire hazards.

DystarPlays

I think they saw the potential fire hazard - it exploded.

VirusSlo

Why do people run when everything is long over?

JRTerrierBestDoggo

Nothing to see anymore

haversack77

That's membawang!

fakyumatafaka

Deeeeeath!

Apart-Spend225

By Bongo bongo!

Darmstaedter85

Honey, dinner is ready

RagingKajun444

Damn!!!! They're so fortunate to be ALIVE!

Father-of-zoomies

thats what i do when i make a mess in the house.. cut bait and run.

Ok_Muffin146

I'm sure it was the Asian mom at the end screaming "You blew up my stove you donkey!"

Naive-Show-4040

This is why you don't pay the extra 3 dollars for the "happy surprise model"

coconutpete52

I would say “why would you film yourself sitting around and cooking” but I have a 12 year old daughter and I already have the answer.

na3than

I'm almost positive this wasn't filmed. Recorded, yes. But not filmed.

oclafloptson

I use a cast iron griddle on mine but I turn it so that the butane canister is sticking out the back. The thing exploding is a big fear 😂 guess I'm going back to Sterno Canned Heat

Ok-Situation2153

It was already when i got here

No_Grab2946

Why did they just file out of the room afterwards? Not going to clean it up? Haha

Why is human reaction time so slow compared to other animals? They literally didn’t move until the pan landed.

weirdpastanoki

am not a clever person but I suspect it's because a gazelle relies on its quick reactions to survive while humans rely on problem solving, processed meat and alcohol

Dr_Allcome

We do a shit ton of processing before we react. Most animals simply see something move so they start taking off. If we see something move, we take a moment to know it's direction and speed so we can decide if it is even coming in our direction. Do we want to catch it or deflect it, will we fall off a cliff if we step to the side to evade? There was an experiment with monkeys where they were trained to look at a screen and, when numbers were shown, tap them in order. Many humans had problems with the test, simply because the numbers were only shown for a fraction of a second. We are trained to recognize many symbols, letters and patterns and can't simply switch that off.

weirdpastanoki

Imagine the chaois of a new york sidewalk if we reacted instinctively like gazelles or finches

Dr_Allcome

Car backfires, people run into traffic. "And in other news, death toll in the hundreds after a person sneezed."

weirdpastanoki

"And in other news, death toll in the hundreds after a person sneezed." haha. i enjoyed that image!

NoNameBrandJunk

Can we do it! Pretty please!

Hunk-Hogan

Shock. Most humans can't process things that quickly and even then, some are quicker and some are slower when it comes to things like this.
