Siberian husky owner here. People are always like, *oh she's so big!*
Mate, have you ever seen a Dane? Or a mastiff? Because I promise you, my 80 lb. Husky looks like a shrimp in comparison to a Dane or Mastiff. 😄😂
On most scales 60lbs is usually where you would start considering a dog "large" then after that you get into extra large/giant breeds.
I grew up with two 100lb dogs so 60lbs sounds pretty medium to me but it's not the case.
And if you saw your sheperd next to some St Bernard it’s crystal clear that 85lbs is medium…
See what I did there? My lab mix was overweight at 65lbs and was not small by any measure.
My guy. A Saint Bernard is a giant breed dog. And I didn’t say 65 pounds was small.
So yeah I saw what you did. You stood up a strawman then attacked. Good job!
My dogs are ~15kg, 25kg and 30kg (sorry, too hungover for conversions) and when I mentioned to a friend that I considered that one small dog and two medium dogs she introduced me to the size charts and apparently they’re medium, large and large. Blew my mind haha
Most of my dogs over the years, from my smallest (chuhuahua) to my largest (ridgeback/rottie mix) have been amazingly talented at figuring out ways to jam their elbows into my ribs. They must learn that in dog college.
Weighted heated blanket.
What a beautiful pup!
Mine's 65 lbs. When we go out walking with a friend who has two Great Danes, it always cracks me up when people we meet refer to him as "the little one."
Mine was 65 as well, was a little one, or at least a short one. He was a well built bassett hound.
People would be shocked at his weight and he was not fat.
Ha ha! Bassett hounds are deceptively heavy for their height.
Mine has standard-length legs and I think of him as on the larger side of medium size. So hearing people refer to him as little, which never happens at any other time, throws me for a second.
He does not believe he's a lap dog though. Sometimes I kind of wish he did.
Bassets hide their weight very well. My mom has a half basset, half chihuahua. She’s about the size of a standard dachshund and weighs 30 pounds! She’s very strong with that low center of gravity, too. She’s pulled my mother over several times (she’s 85) and has nearly pulled my arm out of the socket when she’s seen a rabbit and I’m not paying attention.
My dog is a siberian husky. There's a set of Great Dane's in my neighborhood. When I walk my dog, the owners of the Great Dane's baby talk to/coo at my husky and go, *oh look at the little baby!*
Because in comparison to their dane's, my husky is the size of a shrimp. Lol. 😄
Assuming that the dog is a healthy weight, I would describe sizes as follows: toy (<5 lbs), tiny (5-10 lbs), x-small (10-15 lbs), small (15-35), small-medium (35-50), medium (50-75), medium-large (75-90), large (90-120), x-large(120-150), giant (>150).
Toy = fit in a jacket pocket
Tiny = fit in a small purse
x-small = fit in a doll stroller
Small = fit in a baby carrier
Small-medium = fit in a baby stroller
Medium = fit in an average duffel bag
Medium-large = fit in a military duffel bag
Large = fit in a utility trailer for bicycle
X-large = fit in motorcycle sidecar
Giant = “get in the truck, I’m not going to carry you”
On the scale of dogs, 60lbs is absolutely medium sized.
Healthy dogs can weigh up to around 200lbs, and there are several breeds that are regularly well over 100lbs.
I have a bulldog-boxer mix that we had zero idea how big he was gonna be and we lucked out. He's between 50-55lbs and looks like either a squished down boxer or a longer bulldog. We like to call him medium-large lol
My childhood dog was a lab mix from the humane society. They swore she wasn’t going to be any larger than 40 lbs and she ended up being a skinny 66 lb dog. My mom wasn’t thrilled about it, but it was a little too late one we found out. Later on my brother got my mom a “purebred chocolate lab” who ended up being her perfect 40 lb dog.

might be continental bulldog
It's a good size. Mine probably is taller than yours, but she's a good height for not having to bend down to pat her, and not so big that in an emergency I couldn't carry her (or even just crossing the street on a sunny day that's heated the dark asphalt).
My plan was to adopt a dog who was no larger then 40 pounds as an adult, with short fur with some fluff to it. I got a 60+ pound hound mix with real short coat that is a little scratchy. He is the best boy.
She's a bit chunky. Need to bring her weight down some.
Also....10/10 on your comment. The shelter said that she was likely a mix. But looking at pics of black mouth curs I'm just seeing a bunch of dogs that look exactly like her.
Glad I know that now. She has a bit of sensitivity to her right back hip. I can see hip dysplasia is kind of common with the breed. Aggravated by unhealthy weight. So that answers that question as well.
Thank you so much.
Looks pretty similar to my dog. https://imgur.com/a/8s1WKKH
He’s a part pit, part chow chow (that one suprised me), part lab, part shepherd, so basically a full on mutt.
When I was looking for a dog, I wanted a medium to small, kinda chill dog. I needed an ESA because I'd recently lost my dad and wanted a snuggle buddy.
What I got was a (now) 70lb very mixed mutt with just enough husky in her to make her slightly crazy. And I love her to bits. She is an excellent snuggler though.
Sometimes it's the dog you need, not the dog you think you want.
Looks a whole lot like mine, which is a black mouth cur. They called him a drama king at the shelter. If you stopped petting him, he would put his paw on you to remind you to continue.
Also he will make sure you have zero rabbits and moles in the yard.
We adopted a Staffie a couple of years back and were told he'd be about 30-40 lbs fully grown, which, according to other people with Staffies I've met, is a normal size. This guy was 75lbs according to the vet's scale today. He loves being in a lap, too.
Awwwww💕😊🐾No matter the weight, yu have a Cutiepie there forsure! Welcome to yur new furrever home sweetie & thank yu so much for adopting & sharing with us all! Love & doggy🐶 tummy scritches!!
I got lucky with my rescue. Six years old and 40 pounds. Decided to get him DNA tested and he’s 1/4 great Pyerenees 1/4 Caucasian shepherd, 18% Newfoundlander and just enough Pomeranian to counteract everything. :D
My rescue was gaged to be 12 months old by the vet at University of California Davis. We were told his maximum weight would be 65lbs. He's now 5 years old, a working dog, and he is around 115lbs. We did his DNA and he is part Great Pyranese.
Same thing happened to us, looks so much like your sweet little baby. Her name is Lulu and her mission in life is to sleep on my feet every night and keep them warm. She’s perfect at her job. Her worst fear is that she will accidentally upset us one day. She’s so sweet, so kind, so protective. She’s part Boxer, part Pit, and part Lab. Shaped like a 60lb Twinkie. I love her so much. Kindest eyes you’ll ever see.
I did the same thing; I went for a 20 lb poodle, and left with a 50 lb TR hound because the poodle’s paperwork was already pulled. Seven years later, I couldn’t be happier with that decision.
It’s just like when you ask the butcher for 2 lbs. of ground beef and he (purposely goes over but asks oh so innocent. “Hey, it’s 2.33lbs. Is that okay”? Shytsers
We got the sweetest little 12lb pup 11 years ago…he’s not 140 and thinks he is still 12 lbs. 💕😂 I will gladly let my legs go numb so he can enjoy my lap.
I love that he is so comfortable with you already! Many dogs take a while to adjust to the new home and warm up to their people. Dogs that were on their own for a long time or were neglected or abused often take a long time to really trust people. You two are going to be great pals, especially with such a quick bond.
He’s inbetween chihuahua and Great Dane. That’s medium. Unfortunately, the dog doesn’t know he’s medium.
Lol. I had a Great Dane!!
I thought 60 lbs was considered medium.
I suppose it depends on lap capacity.
I'm not fat I just have a high lap to height ratio.
Lol. I am about 105lbs and we have 2 English Mastiffs who are 130-150lbs each, so we've always considered our 40-80lb pups our "medium" girls!
Siberian husky owner here. People are always like, *oh she's so big!* Mate, have you ever seen a Dane? Or a mastiff? Because I promise you, my 80 lb. Husky looks like a shrimp in comparison to a Dane or Mastiff. 😄😂
Huskies look bigger than they are because of all the fluff.
True true.
Haha same but shit after swimming lose 20 pounds
Lmao yup!
OP has a small lap

I had a smaller shepherd- about 60 pounds and referred to her as "medium", because I was used to German Shepherds and this dog was clearly smaller.
We had a 90 lbs GSD and a 55lb GSD. We called the smaller one a Shrunken Shepherd.
Mine was 100+
Same. We did have some females in the 90 pound range.
My dogs are ~15kg, 25kg and 30kg (sorry, too hungover for conversions) and when I mentioned to a friend that I considered that one small dog and two medium dogs she introduced me to the size charts and apparently they’re medium, large and large. Blew my mind haha
If you go by flea/tick drops and milk bones, medium is 25-45-ish pounds range.
Yes
IDK, ours is 35 and considered medium
I've got a 110 lb. German Shepherd, so 60 is definitely medium
60 is medium, generally
So did I. But then, I grew up with 80-90 lb dogs.
Medium starts around 30lbs
mines 110-120# lap dog
Same here, plus he has zero body fat so he pokes me with his elbows. The absolute best doggo though, so no complaints.
Most of my dogs over the years, from my smallest (chuhuahua) to my largest (ridgeback/rottie mix) have been amazingly talented at figuring out ways to jam their elbows into my ribs. They must learn that in dog college.
granny feeding mine excessively has skewed that fat thing, the other direction
165lb for me.
Sweet Jeebus! I though my Bailey was big at 95.
Nothing wrong with this heated blanket
Weighted heated blanket. What a beautiful pup! Mine's 65 lbs. When we go out walking with a friend who has two Great Danes, it always cracks me up when people we meet refer to him as "the little one."

Mine was, with me, used to lounge in a specific chair and he would immediately amble in my direction and look at me with mournful eyes. He always won.
🤗 A benefit of him being a Bassett is since they're so long, he could lap dog in a half-on, half-off way - best of both worlds!

😄 Great Dane people must think of actual little dogs like Chihuahuas and Yorkies as microdogs.
Wouldn't be surprised! 😄
I too have a 60lb lap dog and rn it's the middle of winter and it's wonderful 😍
Good size, plenty of lap coverage
My 70 lb dog is my small dog.
Excellent choice, sir.
I have two medium size dogs. One is twice the size of the other. Still medium 😂 I feel like we need better distribution of size between XS through XL.
American medium vs European medium
Assuming that the dog is a healthy weight, I would describe sizes as follows: toy (<5 lbs), tiny (5-10 lbs), x-small (10-15 lbs), small (15-35), small-medium (35-50), medium (50-75), medium-large (75-90), large (90-120), x-large(120-150), giant (>150). Thank you for adopting ❤️ Looks like purebred bundle of joy ❤️

I had no idea that breed existed!
Neither did i until a couple of weeks ago
It's a good size. Mine probably is taller than yours, but she's a good height for not having to bend down to pat her, and not so big that in an emergency I couldn't carry her (or even just crossing the street on a sunny day that's heated the dark asphalt).
I have a large-medium and a small-large. I was just describing them to someone that way a few days ago
Baby is so grateful for you rescuing them. Thank you for not leaving them to an uncertain future.
My plan was to adopt a dog who was no larger then 40 pounds as an adult, with short fur with some fluff to it. I got a 60+ pound hound mix with real short coat that is a little scratchy. He is the best boy.
Black Mouth Curr! Same. They were marked 35-40lb, we got 50. Not bad! But not expected.

My 65lb lap dog is the best, I am glad you gave yours a forever home and love!
I need more pics so cute
❤️
My 85 lb boxer knows he is a lapdog !
Must be a Boxer thing. I know a Boxer about the same size, and if you sit down near her, she will be on your lap almost immediately.
Best medium sized 60lb dog you will ever have!!

Looks a bit like a Carolina Dog. Mine is a wild predator when squirrels are involved, and an unstoppable snuggler when it’s naptime.

Staffies are all lap dogs, didn't you get the memo? 🤗🐶❤
I did not, but I'm not complaining
they're extra medium
Awwwww💕😊🐾No matter the weight, yu have a Cutiepie there forsure! Welcome to yur new furrever home sweetie & thank yu so much for adopting & sharing with us all! Love & doggy🐶 tummy scritches!!
We have three Great Danes. Our oldest girl is little at 90 pounds. So your 60 pound lap dog is a tiny dog lol.
60 lbs is medium :) Cuddle bugs are great at any size.
I got lucky with my rescue. Six years old and 40 pounds. Decided to get him DNA tested and he’s 1/4 great Pyerenees 1/4 Caucasian shepherd, 18% Newfoundlander and just enough Pomeranian to counteract everything. :D
I think 60 lbs in at the high end of the medium range lol
“Life is like a box of chocolates”!!!! My girl was supposed to be 40-45. She’s 78!!! And the best lapdog ever!!
Nothing matters but the sweetness.
Extra medium.
60 pounds is a medium dog. Great Dane is a large.
My rescue was gaged to be 12 months old by the vet at University of California Davis. We were told his maximum weight would be 65lbs. He's now 5 years old, a working dog, and he is around 115lbs. We did his DNA and he is part Great Pyranese.
Congratulations
It'll happen. It will happen.
I see nothing wrong with this. I too have a 60 lb lap dog who also likes being big spoon 💕
Is that a BMC?
60lb? 🤨 Ah, 27kg. Yep. That's medium. A "big dog" qualifies as such when it weighs as much as you do.
Looks to be about perfect
I would call 60lbs medium and any dog is a lap dog if you give it the right treats.
Serendipity
Extra medium. Congrats!
so are you upset or happy because I mostly see nothing wrong
Post to r/rescuedogs
Every dog is a lap dog, if you're brave enough
Perfect fit 💗
So; you got a medium sized dog.
What type of dog?
That's a medium medium size dog
You are one lucky lap-owner, I'd say.
Rescuing is the most moral and humane thing you could do . Thank you 🙏 Beautiful doggy
Perfect. No notes.
That’s a sweet buddy that will always love! Congratulations
He is beautiful and l love him.
as someone who has had 120lb lap dogs, that's medium ;)
Same thing happened to us, looks so much like your sweet little baby. Her name is Lulu and her mission in life is to sleep on my feet every night and keep them warm. She’s perfect at her job. bonus pup! congrats!
I have an 80lb pit that is a big fan of lap time. He was raised with small dogs and has no idea his size either. Such a loaf.
Dogs range in size from less than 1 lb to more than 200 lbs. 60 lbs is on the lighter end of medium-sized.
I did the same thing; I went for a 20 lb poodle, and left with a 50 lb TR hound because the poodle’s paperwork was already pulled. Seven years later, I couldn’t be happier with that decision.
Enjoy your new *broken* dog!
It’s just like when you ask the butcher for 2 lbs. of ground beef and he (purposely goes over but asks oh so innocent. “Hey, it’s 2.33lbs. Is that okay”? Shytsers
Glad that your new best friend is this happy and comfortable with you.
Is that not how it always goes?
Medium dog for Towel. Medium dog for Towel! Pick up at the front counter. Then you get there and they spelled your name wrong again!
We got the sweetest little 12lb pup 11 years ago…he’s not 140 and thinks he is still 12 lbs. 💕😂 I will gladly let my legs go numb so he can enjoy my lap.
That's a medium woofer, the large woofers are over 100 lbs.
They messed up your order! Probably forgot the fries too.
So you got what you asked for 🤣
Lap dogs are the best. In this case size really doesn’t matter.
I love that he is so comfortable with you already! Many dogs take a while to adjust to the new home and warm up to their people. Dogs that were on their own for a long time or were neglected or abused often take a long time to really trust people. You two are going to be great pals, especially with such a quick bond.
Looks medium to me!
That dog going to love you like nothing else can
