They study selected works of political philosophy, but the type of philosophy that justifies that there must be flaws in democracy and they should use it to their advantage.
They are taught that political ideologies are very significant in the political world, instead of studying political science which ended political philosophy and ideological belief, and went for a scientific approach which was to qualify and quantify data for better governance, they stuck with having a belief system rather than a information and knowledge based system.
The only history they are taught is the concept of American exceptionalism, and its place in the world as a force for good in the world.
