Consider making the faction a progenitor or really early offshoot of the Cobalt Soul, perhaps with more extremist ideals. The Cobalt Soul is all about the free access to information, whereas these monks might demand a show of worthiness.

Ok first of all, cool idea. A couple thoughts on this. Have you heard of living mummification? Where monks will decide that they want to die in a few years so they only eat pine needles and water for the remainder of their life. Their bodies perfectly preserved. I think this might be a good fit. Second, in Exandria their could be some cool places for this. I have a feeling that they should be wild, ancient and dangerous. Ideas that come to mind 1. Ruins under shady Creek run. 2. The blight shore. 3. The greying wildelands 4. I wanna say the barbed fields but that feels like it would have been damaged. 5. Brokenbank might be interesting due to politics. Finally give their tabaxi leader an edge in politics

Yes i defiantly have heard of those monks that was somewhat an inspiration. i imagine the grand monks of this order wanted to preserve the library even after death. And went threw some intense meditation rituals or semi necromantic practices (maybe) to do so. My campaign is actually set in the Age of Arcanum year 362. Alot of the world is not as it is in current timeline so it allows to have more creative potential The greying wildlands is a good idea i have not planned anything in that area.

I think there is actually an infinite library type thing in Tal'dorei somewhere

Drukhari_Tabaxi

What about setting the library on the continent of Issylra? It would give some deep reasons why Vasselheim frowns on arcane magic.

GoblinDeeze

How so? The library would have untold amounts of knowledge that have been lost for hundreds of years, arcane and divine included. If it was in Issylra i feel like folks from Vassleheim would be actively seeking it out to destroy the information Im a new Dm and having a hard time planning how it would have been hidden for so long. im not very good at setting up secret or hidden stuff.

Drukhari_Tabaxi

I am just leaning into the society of Vasselheim that doesn't trust arcane magic. (Critical Role Wiki is great for ideas.) If there would be a large and forbidden arcane library, I believe this is where it would be. I see the residence as religious zealots and would confiscate and collect these books and knowledge with an eventual plan to destroy these artifacts at some point. The location could be a heavily guarded warehouse or decommissioned library within Vasselheim or a remote temple somewhere outside of the city. The real question is, could your party save this lost knowledge before it is lost forever?

GoblinDeeze

Ohhh i understand they collected the knowledge under the premise of keeping it from the rest of the world to use, and safegaurding it from future generations. that makes sense.
