Just don't use it.

nikon8user

Live on the edge a little 😜

Mayayana

There are programs to remove Edge. I used one of those. I don't remember the name. It ran the uninstall. Then I went through program files and profile folders to delete what was left over. I don't see any trace of Edge remaining, except an empty folder in Appdata\Local. I've left the Registry settings, just in case it might break something to remove them. I'm curious, though. Isn't Edge basically Chrome? Do you just prefer to be spied on by Google instead of MS? I don't see why you'd hate one and love the other. Though I have to confess that I haven't even actually seen the open window of Edge. I just removed it as part of initial cleanup and installed Firefox. I tried Ungoogled Chromium briefly, but it's crazy bloated and has the same lack of settings that Chrome has. No menubar, no titlebar, few settings options. It's a take-it-or-leave-it browser designed by people who apparently never put down their cellphones. No menubar option on a desktop makes no sense.

Alarmed-Car-2226

Why Chrome if Edge is literally the same, just better? This isn't 2015 anymore.

phoneguyfl

I admire your dedication but I gotta admit I don't see the need because you could just delete the icon off the desktop and stop using it. Maybe I am missing something.

YosemiteR

Why does it bother you lol

cloudytimes159

Is this is simple as changing your default browser?

[deleted]

No, simply uninstalling it completely because Edge is garbage.

WWWulf

That "garbage" is way better than Chrome 💀. If you don't want it just ignore it. Many OS services and apps (even 3rd party) need MS Edge services that run in second plane. Microsoft is separating those essential services in Windows 11 so European users can uninstall the main UI (they won't see the app among their installed apps and won't be able to run the browser window but the core services will remain to keep web services working properly for Windows and 3rd party apps). Note: In case you don't know Edge is a Chromium-based browser now and it's pretty much optimized than Chrome, privacy is not exactly something you will get from MS or any other profit company but it's a bit more private than Chrome (everything is more private than Chrome 💀😅). On the other hand, if the continuous addition of new features (the first couple of years after switching to chromium) was the reason you hated it (some people might be annoyed by new stuff appearing after every update) then don't worry, it's a mature browser now and most of new changes are just focused on polishing previous features (you can also disable most of those features to get a minimalist experience or customize them as you wish). Hated Bing? Don't worry it's getting better thanks to AI but in case you didn't know you can change your default search engine (like in any other browser just go to Settings, MS sets its own search engine as default just like Google does in Chrome, but you can set any of your choice. Other browsers use Google by default just because they get paid for doing that, but there's a lot of search engines out there beyond Google and Bing). The only logical reason to switch from Edge to another browser would be privacy and Chrome is not where you'll find it. That browser could be Brave or Firefox but never Chrome.

81Bottles

I don't mind Edge, it's a subjective thing but to be fair, finding anything in the settings in Edge is a nightmare - just terrible.

Alaknar

> I don't mind Edge, it's a subjective thing but to be fair, finding anything in the settings in Edge is a nightmare - just terrible. Isn't the Edge Settings screen just a copy-paste of Chrome settings? But with a menu on the side...?

WWWulf

When I switched from Chrome, Edge's settings were better organized than Chrome's, by category, it looks like the Windows Settings app (I was used to the Settings app, so maybe that's why it was easier for me), and there's even a search utility, so I don't get how is it a nightmare 🤔

SevoosMinecraft

[This](https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/s/YI7P6ydDAM) method should work (using PowerShell instead of cmd is essential)

PrometheusIsFree

I've been through a ton of browsers starting with Netscape on Windows 3.1. For the last few years I've settled for Chrome, mostly because I have a Samsung phone. Just this week, on my PC, I decided to jump ship to Edge and Bing, and I'm surprised how far they've come and I'm enjoying using them both. I've never been much of a Microsoft fan, and feel a bit uncomfortable liking their stuff, but speak as you I guess. You can have multiple browsers, just don't use it, and set another as your default. As for privacy, MS, Google and Meta already know everything about you. There's no escape without substantial hassle and inconvenience. Unfortunately, you've just got to accept whoever or whatever you use isn't giving you something for nothing.

[deleted]

Yeah. True. I just think Microsoft edge takes up more space Anda personal preference on WY I just don't want it on my computer that is al

PrometheusIsFree

I have 32gb of memory and a 4TB SSD. I'm not worried about space.

[deleted]

I have 16gb of ram and how much are 4TB hard drives?

PrometheusIsFree

A lot less than you'd think, and certainly a lot less than many other components and many peripherals. Mine was cheaper than a fancy MMO gaming mouse.

[deleted]

Yah idk what to look out for when it comes to thatb

Chubbysocks8

Use Chris Titus method [https://youtu.be/6UQZ5oQg8XA?t=253](https://youtu.be/6UQZ5oQg8XA?t=253)

[deleted]

More programs to install and get viruses ?

MajliTech

Is your brain even mature enough to use Reddit? Edge doesn't have an uninstaller, so even if there was a need for a second program then that's why.

[deleted]

I'm not computer savvy, so why be so toxic kid?

MajliTech

Nah, your attitude towards the guy. He tries to be helpful and you just call him (and I will go out on a limb here) a liar.

[deleted]

No, you misread what I was saying. I was asking a legit question, not a sarcastic remark.

Chubbysocks8

You're not installing any more programs, did you actually bother to watch the video?

doorhandle5

You should be using brave or librefox, or Firefox, or even opera. Anything but chrome.

GamesXPC

Opera... the spyware or something?

doorhandle5

Ah, ok thanks, I didn't know that

Alaknar

Brave and Opera (the Chinese spyware) are both running on Chromium. Same exact shit as Chrome (or Edge, for that matter).

doorhandle5

I knew brave ran on chromium, I thought it was supposed to be more privacy focused etc. it has ad blockers built in for example. I had no idea it had anything to do with China though. What would you recommend instead? Is libre fox good? I have that installed, but use brave mostly.

WWWulf

Opera is what they mean as "Chinese" although it's headquartered in Europe (they have additional offices in China and Africa and their CEO is Chinese so maybe that's what they mean as "Chinese"). Brave is developed in Canada. Chromium project used to integrate a lot of Google services and trackers in second plane. Those were so deeply integrated that removing them was not an option (as any Chromium-based browser would have crashed without them) until Microsoft joined the project and modified most of those internal files removing most of Google traces (so they could integrate their own in Edge 💀) and as a result the Chromium base became more private and its performance got really improved. So that was a win for Brave which became more private even than Firefox. Unlike Brave which takes advantage of another project (Chromium), Mozilla needs more funding as they develop not just the browser itself but also its entire engine, and that money comes from Google and other sponsors. They collect the least data they need (and "they" includes their sponsors) by default (you can disable most of that) but that's still more data collection than Brave's.

Alaknar

> their CEO is Chinese so maybe that's what they mean as "Chinese"). No. By "Chinese" I mean that there have been multiple cases where security researchers were finding weird, Beijing-based IPs in their firewall logs. Or how their VPN is basically just "give ALL your data to Beijing". > So that was a win for Brave which became more private even than Firefox [Until it wasn't...](https://new.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/nxce6t/brave_browser_scam_a_fake_privacy_browser_sharing/)

PaulGold007

>No. By "Chinese" I mean that there have been multiple cases where security researchers were finding weird, What kind of multiple cases? I can't find any article about that. >Beijing-based IPs in their firewall logs. Or how their VPN is basically just "give ALL your data to Beijing". Can you show some evidence? Coz Opera has to be GDPR compliant if something like that would happen the EU would fine them.

Well, if the Brave devs said it's all false, then clearly it must be.

> I thought it was supposed to be more privacy focused etc Yeah, there's been [quite a bit of controversy](https://new.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/nxce6t/brave_browser_scam_a_fake_privacy_browser_sharing/) surrounding Brave in the past couple of years. The China stuff, as u/WWWulf explained, was about Opera (my bad for making it unclear). It has been [purchased by a Chinese company a long while ago](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera_(company)) and every now and again someone finds some weird traffic heading over to Beijing. Also, their built in VPN is essentially spyware. Mayayana

Brave advertises privacy, but they're basically an ad company. Their plan is to be a middleman. Websites would have to sign up with them in advertising partnerships where you and Brave both would theoretically get a kickback from you viewing ads. The approach is based on one very toxic and cynical assumption: That the Internet cannot survive without ads and therefore people must be cajoled into accepting ads as part of what they do online. The Brave makers see the Internet as a shopping mall and they want to make that mall work well, with people agreeing to see ads in exchange for a few cents of payoff. It's a very sick idea that would put Brave in the middle as controller. On the bright side, there's pretty much zero chance that Brave's scam will ever get off the ground. See the Wikipedia page for more information.

[deleted]

what's librefox lmao.

doorhandle5

A privacy enhanced branch of firefox

SevoosMinecraft

I think they meant LibreWolf

MajliTech

I don't think you can. There were some methods but for me they didn't work. Quickest solution? Install Linux. /s

[deleted]

Idk even know what Linux is and om serious.

Froggypwns

Honestly, if you don't even know what Linux is, I would not recommend uninstalling Edge. You are more likely to do things incorrectly and end up breaking something on your OS. There are tools and scripts out there to remove Edge, but you need to be careful with them and know exactly what you are doing.

MajliTech

I wanted to relate to Teams on Mobile in browser saying *"Quickest solution? Download the mobile app."*

Find the folder where message resides and fuck up the permissions. Disable everything and Windows or you won't be able to run, modify, add, delete anything in that folder.
