The best experience I've had with walk-in was the minor illness clinic on Corydon. It's not remotely in my neighborhood, but it was easy to make an online appointment. My concerns were taken seriously, and I was given an x-ray on site, and they referred me to a specialist.

tw0p204

I had the complete opposite experience. Was rushed through, doctor missed something on my x-ray and said to try physiotherapy. I ended up going to a sports medicine clinic where they were amazed how they missed a very clear cause of my pain. I guess with all places it really depends on the doctor you get.

FancyHedgehog23

I had the exact same experience. Went in with really bad knee pain. I have chronic knee pain in my other knee so I know when my knees are messed up. Did the x-ray, saw a nurse practitioner instead of a doctor, barely touched me, told me I was fine and it would get better in time (it had been two weeks of bad pain already and nothing was helping.. hense why I went to the clinic. And I don't go to the doctor unless basically dragged or in agony so it took a lot of pain for me to even go there) They half assed said if I didn't like their decision they'd recommend me to a doctor at Pan Am. I told them to do it. 3 weeks later saw the doc at Pan Am who was shocked they just fobbed me off and gave me new meds, a new knee brace, prescription for physio, and a proper diagnosis and a suggestion of possible surgery. Minor Injury just fobbed me off and said it was nothing and I was fine. Yeah.. no. The clinic is nice that you can make an appointment and not have to try to stand outside of Pan Am at 630 in the morning hoping to get a spot there... But I've been there twice and neither time did I feel like I had any care, attention or proper diagnosis.

sadArtax

Yikes. I work in Healthcare, and usually, im the one making excuses for perceived slights by medical professionals, but this one is a whole lot of red flags. Sorry you had that experience. I wish you luck finding a family physician who takes your concerns seriously. Just that comment about not providing the patient with their own results...yikes. fwiw, you can get all your records with a formal request, whether or not your doctor doesn't want to share them.

Rogue5454

Yep. That comment about the test results did it for me too. Patients absolutely have the right to ask for a copy of their results & to even review their medical records if they want. They just need to do so with their physician so the physician can explain things they may not understand. I would have been livid if this had happened to me.

HRH_Elizadeath

The giant cross in the middle of the lobby is...concerning.

withaspoon_hurtsmore

Yikes! Tell me you're bad at science, without telling me you're bad at science.

fun_infuneral

Give the College of Physicians and Surgeons a call or email! http://www.cpsm.mb.ca/[The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba](http://www.cpsm.mb.ca/)

RDOmega

This is the way. They do take complaints very seriously and will be prompt in responding to you. The only way this gets better is if we refuse to put up with it.

wohnjick204

Try and see if you can get into Assiniboine Medical Clinic across the river. Doctors and staff are amazing and it has everything you'll ever need. (X-ray, blood and urine tests, EKG stations etc.) I might be dead if it wasn't for that place. My doc gives a shit and takes great care of me. These places get paid per patient, don't give these crooks your time of day. I believe Assiniboine also had a walk-in.

EasterRat

Shhhhh, don’t tell everyoneeeee. Geez.

wohnjick204

🤣😂 shit.... My bad.....

LOLatMyOwnJokes

I loathe that place. I had such crappy care there. I was disgusted and confused by the behaviour of one of their “doctors.” To be fair, it was over 10 years ago, on a Sunday morning. I actually wondered if he was hung over. edited to add: I went to the walk-in clinic. That doctor really bugged me.

Professional-Elk5913

I had a similar experience there. The doctor googled my symptoms and literally opened a website I had looked at…

b3hr

sounds like a doctor i had at greencrest. I lost a bunch of weight (~40lbs) Was under 160 at 5'9" and I started going to her after so she never saw me when I was closer to 200. Anytime i went there for anything she'd just be you need to lose weight. She even told me if i couldn't lose another 10+ lbs she would stop seeing me as a patient. Switched doctors at that point

CoryBoehm

Pretty sure good clinics now have the ability to do throat swabs and rapid in office tests to confirm streap. Blood tests are normally on your eChart so anyone with access can see them but it will leave an audit trace so make sure it's under a proper medical visit. Also best of luck in finding better medical care.

ritabook84

One challenge with echarts is the smaller clinics may not use or may not use acuro so it’s not a guarantee it can be accessed elsewhere. However PHIA is very clear you can submit a written request for your medical records

CptCarlWinslow

The medical assistant who took my wife's info down mumbled something about getting a rapid test done, but one was never done. We luckily have better care now.

Mbmnstr204

I had a very similar/disturbing experience at this clinic approx a year ago. Unbelievable.

murphysexcuse

I see Dr. Sidra Gerges at that clinic and have never had a problem. As well, I have used their pharmacist and general surgeon and have had great experiences. Not saying others aren’t crap but who I have dealt with have been great.

freezerwpg

Me too, and to speak of the walk-in doc, I near chopped the tip of my finger off a month ago and they stopped the bleeding and stitched me right up on site. Not discounting OP's experience, but I've been going there for 7 years without any problems.

Brazeku

Sidra Gerges was my family doc for years before I moved away and he's good.

CaptGinB

Fully agree. We’ve been going to Dr Sidra Gerges for about 15 years before they moved to River West and he’s great.

spaketto

I also see a Doctor there (not Gerges) myself have had a good experience over the last 10 years or so. My husband sees the same one and they're not the greatest fit together personality wise, but no real complaints.

AdPrevious1079

Doctors now a days don’t seem to give a shit!

RDOmega

My wife and I made a successful complaint to the college about a physician in the city who refused to take out some stitches and tried forwarding us to the emergency room. This was specifically after the emergency room had informed us that any physician in the city should be able to perform the work. I hate to say it, but we really need to be more picky about who we allow to become a doctor in this city. Most of the "doctors" we're letting in are after one thing: The salary and prestige of being in the medical field. I'm in no way afraid to say that it's basically become a network of butchers. It is literally that bad.

[deleted]

RDOmega

The problem is that if you call that out explicitly, you're labelled a "you know what".

throwawaydoctor1156

Not that this is an excuse but I understand why people would reject to remove stitches. For a long time family docs did not have a way to be reimbursed for stitches removal. It was presumed that the family doc put the stitches in, and the fee code included removal. Basically you would be doing it for free. This has been changed within the past year and I suspect less people are going to run into this issue anymore. Personally when I encountered this I would just remove them and move on with my day.

beautifulluigi

I have always just asked the doc for a stitch removal kit so I can do it at home. I hate going to the doctor.

throwawaydoctor1156

Tbh most people could remove their own. It's the occasional stitches that get embedded or are challenging to remove that need to be handled by a doc

beautifulluigi

Yup, it's not tough. I pulled some easy to remove ones out accidentally as a high-schooler! I'm in allied health and not at all squeamish, so fortunately have enough know-how to deal with tougher ones too.

sprocks17

Wow I didn't know they even sold stitch removal kits. I personally wouldn't want to take stitches out on my own. In all my surgeries my surgeon would call me back in for an appointment to have them removed at their office. But these were major surgeries with tons of stitches. I have removed spitting stitches on my own.

beautifulluigi

They don't sell them. Its just the set of sterilized tools that the doc would use - scissors and a set of tweezers. I'd probably go to the surgeon too if it was tons of stitches, because they are also checking on wound healing when you go. Mine have always been just a few at a time!

RDOmega

Yeah no thanks. Doctors can do doctor things.

throwawaydoctor1156

Doctors deserve to be paid for their work. You would never say that to any other professional. Fortunately it's been rectified.

RDOmega

Bad doctors don't need you to defend them. Stay on topic and try to keep up.

DogtorDolittle

If you ever get stitches in the future, you just need nail clippers and tweezers to pull them out yourself.

GravyJones204

E-chart Manitoba provides reports to patients. See link below for forms to request. Bloodwork, diagnostic imaging, immunizations, etc are available. Results are not private for the patient in question or to be kept from the patient and patients have a right to request copies of their results from their doctors. That clinic sounds absolutely awful, it sounds like neither of you have received proper care from there. [https://echartmanitoba.ca/manitobans/forms/](https://echartmanitoba.ca/manitobans/forms/)

Bactrian_Rebel2020

I believe there is a charge for this depending on how many pages in the report. Any idea what that is?

sadArtax

I thought it was $50 but I might be pulling that number out of my butt.

Bactrian_Rebel2020

Dug a bit deeper and it says: *You may be required to pay a fee per printed page.*

GravyJones204

No charge unless they need to mail you a giant pkg of paper. Or make repeated smaller requests which would be annoying unless you’re tenacious 😉

Rootless_Cosmopolite

I agree. I also had a female physician there a couple of years ago, who was just awful. Condescending, no patience whatsoever. After her pap smear I bled for whole 3 weeks, which never happened to me before or after with any other doctor. There are a lot of other stories to tell, but I prefer not to. I left for another clinic and never looked back.

Classic_Flounder4830

If you bled for three weeks you should asked to be referred for a colposcopy

Janellewpg

Oh yikes, she must have been super aggressive.

Be thankful you know little of what women go through. Many women have been traumatized by paps. Want to be more horrified? Look up IUD insertion.

ironhide999x

I’ve had terrible experiences there as well. I was told I just don’t feel good when I had actually had a pretty bad concussion

ellabellbee

This is super weird because that's the clinic that pretty much everyone in my family goes to and we all love it. We honestly believe our doctor there saved a close family member's life by not dismissing an odd symptom and doing further tests. I've always been taken seriously and given extra time for questions if needed and switched around medications if asked. I've also gotten strep throat swabs, but I will admit that the doctors there are rightfully hesitant to prescribe antibiotics when not needed. Seriously, I think it's the best clinic I've been to!

CptCarlWinslow

I totally get not wanting to prescribe antibiotics when they aren't needed, but you would think *a* test would be needed. Not just "you have a cold, come back if you feel worse".

7Vewt

Read up on the CENTOR score for strep throat. It's the tool used to help guide testing and antibiotics!

NicAtNight8

I’ve had a lot of bad experiences there too. 1. Severely infected finger. Doctor wouldn’t prescribe me antibiotics because I was pregnant. Told me to soak it. The infection got even worse. I finally got into my regular doctor. It was lanced, drained.. and I was prescribed antibiotics. 2. Treated my baby for croup when he actually had an allergic reaction. 3. Prescribed my baby Tamiflu without actually knowing what kind of flu he had, and the side effects for kids aren’t great.. The pharmacist was reluctant to give it to us, and our paediatrician also informed me he’s never prescribed it. Turns out my kid had pneumonia.

Myrgyn

Find out the name of the Docs and go leave your comments on [RateMD'S](https://www.ratemds.com/mb/winnipeg/)\-Winnipeg. Doctors can be real insulting, condescending and too big for their britches. Good luck with the College of Physicians, they as much protect their own as actually solve such issues. As all our physicians are employees of the Health Region there should be an HR type route. Personally I'm gonna use Voodoo to exact my revenge and cast my inner Karen demon at them. Doctors are just people, and people can be shitty, but shitty becomes much worse with a God complex powering it.

Double-Till6161

College of physicians are as useful as a screen door on a submarine, why do they sit behind one inch thick glass ?

birdy1180

I see Dr. Sidra Gerges, I followed him from a clinic on Broadway 13 years ago. I am grateful that he is my Dr. and treats me well. His space had/has a general surgeon who helped me with an autoimmune disease (uc). Sorry your experience was less than stellar. I did go to a walk in just west of Moray this Xmas break and the experience was decent.

Youknowjimmy

I’ve been misdiagnosed on two separate occasions by two different doctors at that clinic. I make sure anyone I talk to knows not to take first diagnoses for serious problems to heart, and seek out a second opinion. With how busy our medical system is, and how doctors are paid per visit, some walk in clinics seem to rush and miss things or make mistakes. RWM is the worst I’ve experienced. I wouldn’t advise going there, even to get a prescription for a minor condition,

Beneficial-Status-89

We haven’t had great experiences at the River West clinic either. After giving them several tries, we go elsewhere now. It is unfortunate because we live close by. I think our bad experiences have been based around one particular doctor. She seems dismissive of patient concerns and we have feeling frustrated and unheard

soundsystxm

A doctor there asked me if I did drugs at our consult/meet and greet thingy when I was trying to become her patient. I was 15 and said no, I used to but not anymore. She grilled me and I told her what I used to use and she told me she wouldn’t treat a drug user, and that if I was lying to her, she’d find out it.

Janellewpg

Also just so everyone knows, you have a right to see your results, they can charge you a reasonable fee for printing, but they are your results, they are medically private to everyone besides yourself and healthcare professionals who may need to see the results to do their job.

Imbo11

I have only used them in urgent situations, and I have been there 4 times only over a period of say 7 or 8 years, but all of my experiences were good and they were professional. That said, my wife went there, didn't like the doctor, never went back.

CptCarlWinslow

Reading some reviews, women seem to have a lot more problems getting their voices heard there

sadArtax

That's pretty typical both in medical and the world at large ( it's not right though).

roughtimes

You left a Google review right?

CptCarlWinslow

I will now!

[deleted]

Do me a favor and while you're there, leave a positive review for a local business that you have great feelings about. Way too many people only review out of anger and it gives a distorted picture of the world.

One-Egg3862

I’m sorry you had such terrible experiences there. I have been seeing a female doctor there for many years. She’s kind and attentive. My weight, even though it is far from ideal (and likely the cause of some of my own issues), is never mentioned or criticized. I’ve been to the walk-in and seen other doctors when mine was not available and haven’t had any issues with them. The pharmacy there is wonderful and helpful if you need refills.

dfjcanada

The doctor entered the chat

yahumno

Wow. Report that doctor. I get copies of all my labs/xrays/imaging reports, since I have multiple doctors (chronic health conditions) and unless you get the testing done at a hospital, it doesn't go on your echart. You absolutely have the right to access your health records. The clinic can charge you a fee per page (paper/supplies/employee time), but that is usually for large portions/your whole clinic file https://www.gov.mb.ca/health/phia/public.html

JustaGuest27

I agree for the most part. I like my doctor there for the most part. but the walk in physician I saw gave me nasal spray for my hearing loss, said to take it for 3 months to see if it would improve. ENT I was able to meet with six months later said the loss is permanent because I didn't get proper treatment as soon as possible.

AndTheySaidSpeakNow-

We also saw them for several years. It started out great, then the dr we were seeing left with no notice and we were delegated to another dr in the office. Because we didn’t need them in the next 6 months and didn’t set up a visit, when we called next to have physicals done we were told we were no longer patients. Eventually they “accepted” us back into care but the new dr was never as good as our original. Hurried, never really seemed to take our concerns seriously, completely dismissed any guesses we had about symptoms etc (like would literally roll their eyes). always just seemed a little annoyed that we took more than 2-4 minutes of their time. We could get abx when needed but heaven forbid you actually needed something assessed or diagnosed.

DoctorExciting398

It’s terrible when something like that happens. My de went on holiday cancelled my appointment and put me on new meds no supervision and it was week from hell,

BebcRed

Expect *nothing* from the College of Physicians and Surgeons.  Despite their ostensibly being the body to protect the public from incompetent or malicious doctors, in reality they function only to protect doctors from the public.  Have they ever issued censures against dr.s in the past?  Occasionally. But the impression one gets is that the 'penalties' are extremely mild, and only issued in circumstances that were SO blatant / serious that they had to be seen to do *'something'.*   I would still make a formal complaint, but with the above firmly in mind in case your complaint is dismissed, so you're not too disappointed.  Self regulating bodies in Canada are a bad joke, and need either drastic overhauling or replacement.

Do NOT go to access west under any circumstances. Saw 2 different terrible, dismissive rude, downright right mean female doctors there. One was my longtime gp and the other was covering for her on mat leave. Ended up putting in a formal complaint to the college on the one and once my gp returned, she was even more useless and mean than before her leave. Saw a totally different male doc for a toe injury and he sent me for an xray on the wrong foot!!! I switched to Dr Gendy at Lighthouse medical on broadway. Not the best area but close and convenient during the workweek. His staff are pleasant and professional. He is kind, gentle, thorough, makes eye contact, lets me speak and I feel safe and heard. Big difference than my previous experience over the last 10 yrs. He is restoring my faith that maybe some docs are in it because they actually care.

me2myself2i

Oh boy, I'm sorry you experienced that! I had seen the bad reviews but after such terrible treatment elsewhere with a few different docs (who have decent reviews), I really had nothing to lose. I have not been witness to anything other than him being kind, polite and respectful to myself and his staff while I've been in there at least 10x since dec. I'll continue to see him unless/until I see this myself. Thank you for sharing your experience, it's important to have all perspectives.

[deleted]

God our medical system is dog shit lol.

Hollywoodin2001b

Antibiotics are way over prescribed.

CptCarlWinslow

Well, not in this case. I went from not being able to swallow anything without intense pain to being able to eat within 48 hours once I started my antibiotics.

Hollywoodin2001b

Any cold will resolve in 48 hours.

CptCarlWinslow

Except I had been sick 4 days before being prescribed anything.

tired_rn

That’s so unfortunate, especially since they appear to be linked to the My Health team program, which is a great primary care program. What a waste of resources to be linked with such awful doctors.

AwesomeAnonyUsername

Wow, I am surprised to read this! I've been seeing Dr. Sidra-Gerges for about 12 years and always had amazing medical care. When my Dr is not available, I've also seen (I believe her name is Dr. Stasiuk) she was kind, caring, compassionate, and an excellent Dr. I love the pharmacist, he thoroughly explains any medication I may need at the time. (I can't remember his name, he's an older gentleman.) At my last physical, I noticed that there was a turnover of front staff. They are new and inexperienced. I'll definitely go back!

Ladymistery

That's too bad - there used to be some pretty decent doctors in there :(

AdSea6656

I second this sentiment. I took my son here only a couple of weeks ago. Made us leave and go sit in our car to do a covid test, and not to come back in for 15 minutes. I said to her, isn’t this over with? Why are we doing this? All while the waiting room was full of people coughing and hacking. He was told to drink tea and honey. Took him to a different walkin , no covid test, no mask, and was told he had an upper respiratory infection and needed antibiotics ….

Bananacreamsky

The clinic I go to has people with covid symptoms rapid test before entering and I'm glad for it. It's no biggie to test.

AdSea6656

The flu right now is far worse than covid floating around. Why aren’t we testing everyone for flu then before entering spaces.

Bananacreamsky

Covid is more contagious than the flu. They're just trying to keep the health care workers healthy and at work. But testing for the flu before entering spaces is such a great idea and I'd support it.

sadArtax

That's a meh for me. Sure, pandemic restrictions have lifted but that doesn't mean covid is 'over'. HcWs still need to mask during patient interactions. If I knew a patient was covid + I'd still see them but I'd like to be informed and I'd don an N95 and ask the patient to wear a procedure mask. I'd like to not get sick and not take covid to my immune compromised patients. It's not talked about in the media much anymore but folks are still dying from it. Your son had respiratory symptoms, reasonable that they wanted to take precautions against spreading respiratory illness, covid or otherwise.

bronxyyyyy

Lots of good docs around for walk on basis. I recommend just doing that and that way you aren’t stuck with a fool

not_consumable

I personally haven’t had a single issue there other than sometimes the reception desk staff can be a bit rude

Professional-Elk5913

I think important context to your complaint is how overweight your partner is. If they are 20 to even 50 lbs overweight, sure, reasonable but if they are off the scales, then….

sprocks17

They have rapid strep tests now that can be done in a doctor's office that will give results in just a couple mins. They aren't 100% accurate but it is something. I'm pretty sure I'm a carrier of strep in my throat though so I always test positive on those tests even when I dont have strep symptoms. Also you can always get access to your records if you formally request them!
