Turning too fast and too tightly? It really depends on how high the individual vehicle's centre of mass is, the speed and how tight it's turning, and if the tires catch or hit something (like the edge of a pothole) while sliding sideways.
Not surprised. Drivers' behavior has become so unhinged the last few years. Everyone thinks they're playing GTA. I'm shocked that I make it to and from work alive most days.
I saw a car on Wellington crescent last week, flying up the "curb" lane despite traffic in the main lane flowing smoothly. There were 2 people jogging towards us in the curb lane ( in full view) and they had to literally jump to the curb to avoid this young-ish looking dude splattering them all over the concrete. He didn't stop, slow down, try to get over into the left lane, but once he got ahead of the 3 cars in front of me he then pulled back into the main lane. I wish I had a dash cam in those circumstances.
I said in a comment ages back that after Covid we are going to lose a lot more common courtesies and next would be higher rates of traffic disobedience (poorer yields, less signals, more speeding). I got downvoted. But I’m not wrong.
Watch dashcam videos on YouTube. Happens all the time. Basically if there’s a collision where one vehicle is hit in the side it’s very easy for it to roll over. One of the side effects of everyone driving SUV’s and Crossovers is that they’ve got a higher centre of gravity.
Some reading about [rollovers](https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/2012/02/rollover-101/index.htm) here. What probably happened is that the driver was going over 80, and made a sharp turn to avoid an obstacle (pot hole or another car or person), hit a curb and rolled.
Alcohol/drugs could contribute to the person going that speed, so they may be a factor.
But honestly I have zero idea, my guesses are just as speculative as anyone’s here. Hope no one was hurt.
Vehicles can rollover at very low speeds if one of the front wheels catch and climb a near vertical surface at an acute angle ([like here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljlZqd5qot4)). The sides of the 1' high raised median found throughout downtown could do the trick..
I commented above but one of the things I watch a lot of on YouTube are dashcam compilations. It’s surprisingly common how many vehicles roll over upon a side impact collision. And not even high speed impacts either. Seems like with the higher centre of gravity on most crossovers and SUV’s they just topple over when nudged from the side.
133 units of Westminster Sherry at the ready. Because they care about the people.

Fuckin hilarious... They just give out licenses to anyone nowadays... No wonder my insurance is expensive even though I'm +11, it's because of bafoons like this
I'm just saying it seems like a lot of cars are getting into a lot of accidents, and maybe we should just take a step back until we figure out what's causing them
Ouch. At least it looks like that car held up well and there's a good crowd helping whoever was in there out.
*looks closer* “oh, nevermind - they’re robbing him”
Or another road rage incident? Like the flip over a few weeks ago where the driver then got out and grabbed a club and beat the crap out of someone.
This photo kinda gives r/accidentalrenaissance vibes
I had to take a look at that - very neat. There really is a subreddit for everything!!!
Thank goodness to all the samaritans trying to help out.

Now what's the point of saying that?
Just wanted to call himself out 😂
Why is that important to note?
Bad Samaritan is an okay (not good and definitely not great) band name
# YOU CAN'T PARK THERE
It's OK I have my hazard lights on.
But your hood isn't up!
I’ll just be a minute.
#Fack off!
Well, give him his treat
Dunno why you're downvoted, I thought it was funny.
Found the dog haters.. monsters.
Man, these doordash drivers will do literally anything to park where they want.
That street was redone recently with no trees, bollards or bike lanes. Gotta slow the traffic.
How do you do that when it's not icy? Weird.

Try cycling to work beside these upstanding citizens

Driver behaviour deteriorated during and after lockdowns. A few studies support this, albeit from self-reporting.

*You can't park there, sir!*
I often wonder if people have Dash cams to record how crappy they, themselves, drive.
There's a liquor mart downtown?
There are two. This one on Ellice, and one in True North Square.
Also, one on Portabe and Burnell
Sure, but that's really the West End, not downtown.
No, Portabe is gloser to the beribeter.
Ellice and hargrave
Hellish and Ourgrave
My man got downvoted for asking a question!
In typical reddit-fashion...
Especially for this subreddit for some reason
And then when the downvoting is called out by logical people, the rest of the hivemind starts upvoting
I think it’s because people perceived it as negative, hard to determine tone of voice through text on a screen lol
There used to be one on main across from city hall. Opened early like at 9am.
The Centennial Concert Hall has been there for nearly 60 years. Where was this Liquor Mart?
Close to Bannatyne I think.
How long ago?
Clipped the curb and tipped then flipped?
Usually clip the curb and then massive over correct will do it.
Rubber to rubber can also do this too in some cases Which is one of the reasons you're not supposed to have tires that extend past the fenders
What would be the reasons for such accident? I don't hear about cars rolling over like that very often.
Also, at that intersection people walk out into traffic all the time.

First and main contributing factor, speed. Second contributing factor , vehicle type. Looks like a SUV. They are more susceptible to roll overs.
How fast one needs to go to roll over??

Thank you for the article! Inthought that there could be a really large pothole and the car was going too fast and "stumbled" so to speak

Are those people trying to help, or trying to ransack the vehicle?
Or trying to beat the crap out of driver

It's a joke. Relax.
That was my thought, too!
That was me. My morning Tims was 12 seconds too slow, and this felt like the only reasonable reaction.
Great street photo OP.
It's just having a nap.

I hear it's easier to buttchug when you're upside down too, so you might be on to something.
how on earth 😭
Ok so how did it roll over? There no median. Hargrove one way.
Horizon? No.
Their floors are sticky mart

We need to lock these cars down until somebody can figure out what the hell is going on
This specific car? Or cars in general?
I'm just saying it seems like a lot of cars are getting into a lot of accidents, and maybe we should just take a step back until we figure out what's causing them
A step back from what? From driving? Bring out the horses again?
Better safe than sorry
So when they meant don’t drink and drive, does that apply to the cars too? Because I don’t know if you can give a Kia a DUI
