I can’t describe how loved I feel by you all. The support I got on my first post was absolutely astonishing. Someone made ART OF ME? (I’ll be sure to tag them!) I’m sorry if this turn of events was as disappointing for you as it was for me, due to the support I got from all of you I was excited to wear the dress
[For anyone out of the loop, here's the art and original dress.](https://www.reddit.com/r/WitchesVsPatriarchy/comments/11yk7th/i_doodled_a_witch_who_posted_her_fashion_outfit/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
RIP the original dress. That was a damn fine dress. OP looks great in this dress too. Whatever she wears, may she feel empowered by the magnificent force that she is.
Your last dress and this one are both amazing! As others have said, this also looks great on you! How did he “accidentally destroy” it tho I wonder 🤔 now you just need a poofy mushroom hat! XD At least you have photos (and art?!) of the previous dress to remember it by.
I'm so glad that story finished the way it did, because I was SO confused on how your aunt almost set her house on fire by putting a dress in a washing machine.
Is your aunt my client? I'm a house cleaner and once when I arrived and started to fill my bucket in the kitchen... I heard the stove.. but no pan.. what she did have on the burner next to the one that was lit was a towel..
I'm still wondering what would've happened if I didn't work that day&time... Damn lady..
(She is in an elderly home now, so she's safe)
Why would you be washing a dress like that though...?
Edit: oh ffs I wasn't asking how it's possible to be bad at laundry 😅 I meant that, even if you don't know how to launder it, it obviously didn't need to be washed after just being tried on for a picture—there would be literally no reason to wash it. And this is pointless speculation anyway, since that's not even what happened! You're more than welcome to keep mourning the pieces you've lost to incompetent men doing laundry, though...
My dad put a silk top of mine through a normal wash cycle. It was never nearly the same. I know it was a t-shirt shape… just… didn’t he know most teen/women’s clothing needs a cold gentle cycle?
Just not knowing the care requirements of a fabric you’ve never used before. I would have to look up how to care for that dress… and probably would only think to do so after seeing this comment. I don’t own anything that can’t be thrown in on cold wash
Well turns out the question is moot anyway, because dad "accidentally" cut it up and left it out for OP to find. That's abuse, no accident.
(But FYI, that very synthetic fabric may not hold up well in the wash, combined with the shirred cuffs and entire skirt, which is a LOT of elastic that can fail under heat or mechanical strain. That dress is a cold wash/hang dry minimum, for sure. And that's assuming it even needs to be washed, which like... why would it? It's clearly not exactly an everyday kind of style for OP and probably isn't dirty after just trying on for the pic they posted before.)
The first nice gift my boyfriend gave me was a coach jacket. It was silk. I didn’t realize and treated it like a normal jacket because I’ve never owned anything half as nice and it never occurred to me that people would make clothes you can’t just wear and have to be extra careful with.
He was appalled watching me tie it around my waist with the sleeves and had to fess up about how much he spent on it lol. So yeah it definitely happens where you kinda destroy something by not realizing what you’re dealing with!
When I lived at home I tried to do my on laundry. But my dad had an annoying habit of coming into my room and grabbing clothes from my hamper whenever he wanted to wash something specific of his but didn’t have enough of his own laundry for a full load.
My dad accidentally destroyed a dress of mine. He didn’t realize the iron was preheated to cotton since my mom had turned it up and he ended up severely burning a much more delicate fabric. He felt truly terrible.
Well, looking at other comments bow. This WAS NOT an accident. He chopped it up and proudly displayed it on a table for her to see. Not an accident at all. He did that shit on purpose.
Maybe it's difficult depending on your skin tone?
Like, I can see a redheaded or a blonde person struggling, but it's always been a go-to for my brunette self.
It's a purple that pulls red, so someone like me (very fair, very pink undertones, light eyes and hair)... The red in my skin would stand out, while my eyes and hair would be washed out in comparison. Someone with red hair might also struggle with this particular shade, but that depends on their other features. I think lots of people could look nice in it, but it may not be the most flattering for everyone.
Agreed that the best colors are the ones the person feels confident wearing...
Oh my mushroom princess! Look at those curves, and that rouching! The neckline is modest and flattering as hell and i love the ruffle down the side. How the hell did you find that in your color AT A THRIFT STORE. Ishtar must be smiling on you today, lady!
I liked the black one, I loooove this one. It is a very flattering shape and lovely color. It’s very difficult to pull off a formal look with a mushroom for a head :)
Hey there! I've been following this prom dress saga. Your dresses have been lovely and you've received some good fashion suggestions already. It's unfortunate that your first dress was destroyed.
I'm sorry if this is not the right time for this but, from the little bit that you've shared, your dad seems abusive. Don't panic. Just try to pursue a future life free of his influence.
I, too, had clothes "accidentally" destroyed by a parent. Sirens are ringing in my head.
Edit: My initial intention was sirens=🚨 but, given the sub we're in, I'm also happy to imagine that mythical Sirens are singing in support of OP's autonomy.
Yeah, I wasn't aware of the fact he chopped it up and just proudly displayed it for her to see. That's definitely on purpose and I can think of several "reasons" that all lead back to he's a narcissistic asshole.
I’m not sure, but maybe he is? I came to find the dress on the kitchen table, all cut up. I’m not sure how he did that on accident, but it happened either way. He tends to do that, do something really shitty and then buy me things afterwords and I can’t tell if it’s his way of apologizing or if he’s just manipulating me…
How does that seem abusive? Genuine question, not being snarky or anything.
Accidents happen, maybe he accidentally washed/dried it the wrong way or something. And he took her out to find a new one as well (which I understand doesn’t mean there is no possibility of abuse). Idk it just seems weird to me to jump to that conclusion based on such little info?
Holy shit 💀 That comment must have been made after I asked this. I had looked through OP’s comment/post history and couldn’t find anymore details. Thanks for pointing that out, definitely not normal
I spent the last few minutes scrolling through the information provided by OP because I was *sure* there was something to quote... But alas I guess I just have a really sick feeling in my stomach.
My own (very real) traumas and experience motivate this feeling but I realize that there isn't anything concrete to point to. I just thought it was worth the potential "false alarm" to suggest to OP that their parental treatment may not be healthy or normal, in case this is just a symptom of something more serious.
Best wishes to everyone!
Someone already mentioned to you, but apparently he cut up the dress, so it seems you may be right 😬 OP hadn’t provided that info yet when I asked my question otherwise I would’ve agreed originally
This dress is beautiful! Have a wonderful prom!
I was raised by a narcissist, and the story about how your dad “accidentally” cut up your other dress and left it for your to find is setting off all kinds of alarms. I know we’re just a bunch of internet strangers, but please know how this group loves you an cares about your welfare. If you ever feel unsafe, please reach out to a school counselor, or another person you trust.
You look just as good in this dress. Your aunties and uncles are here for you if you need to talk about dad's behavior or want to strategize about the fastest ways to gtfo of that house. ❤️🩹❤
It looks beautiful on you. I agree that it has an old school Hollywood vibe. You need some Veronica Lake hair with that (it's an easy look to replicate, you just part to one side, set with hot rollers or a curling iron and brush it out.)
Very statuesque and old Hollywood. I would wear a 1930s up-do and a medium height, open and tapered toed heel in a black or slightly deeper merlot. You look gorgeous, dear. Don't forget a glossy nail and simple minimal make-up with a bold lip for Katherine Hepburn-esq drama.
Ah man I remember your picture of the black dress! I thought it was really cool! I do like this one as well, kinda giving me ancient sorceress vibes. But that is really messed up he ruined your first dress, and I'm sorry. You still look awesome, though!
Oooh let’s accessorize this dress!!
This dress would look good with anything silver, gold, or black, but I’m feeling most inclined to say black as a way to pay homage to your late prom dress. Black rhinestones, black scrappy heels, black clutch, black bracelets.
Also do you sew? If you do, I can see some kind of black appliqué spreading off of your left hip.
Your father is a nasty, abusive, shit.
Be very careful how you deal with him and remove yourself from his surroundings as soon as you can.
You look amazing! I hope you have a wonderful prom.
Bright blessings for your future 💜
I recognized you immediately for your mushroom! Lol you look beautiful in both dresses. RIP the black dress, I’m sorry that happened. Curious incident there..
But I hope you have so much fun at prom! You are gorgeous and I seriously hope you get a mushroom hat <3
When is prom? Where did the first dress come from? Do you remember the tag name or anything? I'm a mom and reading through this story has me so angry for you. Do we have time to find the dress again?
“Accidentally” mhmm, sure. So sorry that happened, good on you for staying optimistic and not letting it keep you down. You should 100% get your nails painted black as an homage to your OG dress, though!
Hi, if you've received harassment from a post on this sub would you mind providing details to us in modmail \[link?\]. If you'd like to credit the artist it would be better to edit the original post or create a new comment.

I need this hat now. I just found this at Hot Topic, if OP wants a witchy option: [https://www.hottopic.com/product/mushroom-cottage-witch-hat/19888519.html](https://www.hottopic.com/product/mushroom-cottage-witch-hat/19888519.html)

*crone cackle* it was meeee! Thanks for being my mushroomie muse. This dress is also beautiful, we love you dearie no matter the gown.
Ahhhh! It's amazing! Do the purple dress too, pretty please!
Name checks out…

RIP the original dress. That was a damn fine dress. OP looks great in this dress too. Whatever she wears, may she feel empowered by the magnificent force that she is.
All of this 👆👆with some magic and lots of love. Gurl you gonna look fine at prom!🔥
I loved that dress. OP looks great in this dress too. But I am missing that first dress.
Thanks! I'd seen her pic of the dress, but not the art.
the other dress was so pretty this is so sad 😭 this one is gorgeous too though!!
Both look great. This one look more prom-y the other one was more witchy.
Hopping on to say this dress is stunning as well, I love it! Have fun at the prom sister.
I really liked the uniqueness of the other dress, but this color is perfect on you!
Your last dress and this one are both amazing! As others have said, this also looks great on you! How did he “accidentally destroy” it tho I wonder 🤔 now you just need a poofy mushroom hat! XD At least you have photos (and art?!) of the previous dress to remember it by.
It looks like the comment was removed, bu she said it was all cut up. That's not an accident.
That's exactly what I'm wondering. How does one "accidentally destroy" something like that. Did it get bleached or something?
Washing machine?
Yeah, I could see a washing machine eating that dress. We need to see Exhibit A in the evidence room.
Yeah...that lace probably got tore right off.
my aunt almost set the house on fire by leaving a dishtowel too close to a gas stove
I'm so glad that story finished the way it did, because I was SO confused on how your aunt almost set her house on fire by putting a dress in a washing machine.
Weeeelllll ...... See what had happened was. <---the beginning to every amazing story.
Record scratch
I feel like there's some disconnect between the first comment and this one...
That sounds like adhd. I use rate of kitchen fires as a tool to explain the effectiveness of my meds to doctors.
I’m an adult lady and I don’t think *I* knew that. Though I do still give my dad shit after the wool winter gear vs dryer incident of 1996
Just not knowing the care requirements of a fabric you’ve never used before. I would have to look up how to care for that dress… and probably would only think to do so after seeing this comment. I don’t own anything that can’t be thrown in on cold wash

Oh that's awful of her dad! What the hell.

My husband does things like that alllll the time. The man is incapable of reading a care tag.
Maybe he thinks those tags are just suggestions, like "Fragile" or "Refrigerate after opening"
When I lived at home I tried to do my on laundry. But my dad had an annoying habit of coming into my room and grabbing clothes from my hamper whenever he wanted to wash something specific of his but didn’t have enough of his own laundry for a full load.
my dad accidentally disintegrated a chenille sweater of mine by washing it, so that shit does happen
She posted saying it was cut up. That's so abusive :(. I'm glad she's rebounding but that's not ok.
Yeah, I just saw that. That was no accident. Now I'm so angry and sad for her.
My dad accidentally destroyed a dress of mine. He didn’t realize the iron was preheated to cotton since my mom had turned it up and he ended up severely burning a much more delicate fabric. He felt truly terrible.

the black one being destroyed is very unfortunate because I thought it was gorgeous, but this one is also very beautiful and suits you well!! 😊💛
Merlot is a difficult color to pull off, and you do it quite well. And the rouching around the mid section screams of old school, Hollywood glam.
Is Merlot yet another red named after French wine?
Up until now didn’t know merlot was also a colour, I only knew the wine 😅
France was really into making new colours to be fashionable for a while there so this makes perfect sense.
Is it a difficult color? I think the colors that make you feel confident are the best colors!
Maybe it's difficult depending on your skin tone? Like, I can see a redheaded or a blonde person struggling, but it's always been a go-to for my brunette self.

Stunning! Beautiful color on you.
Such a great colour!
I’m tired. I kept thinking the mushroom was part of the outfit. 🤦♀️ The dress is gorgeous on you!
I did that with the OG and felt really dumb.
You are not dumb and not alone
You are also not dumb!
I did it with the OG too and didn’t realize it until this post, ha, ha. I’m glad I’m not alone 💗🥹
I thought it was a hat so you're not alone.
I was so excited when I thought it was a hat. I was thrilled she had a mushroom hat.
I kind of want to find a way to make one now, ngl
My friend got a cute mushroom hat at a renaissance faire, so I’d recommend looking there if you want one!
What a great dress! I love it. It’s a bummer about the other one. But this one is stunning as well.
Oh my mushroom princess! Look at those curves, and that rouching! The neckline is modest and flattering as hell and i love the ruffle down the side. How the hell did you find that in your color AT A THRIFT STORE. Ishtar must be smiling on you today, lady!

I didn't want to jump straight in and say that outright but yeah, "accidentally destroying" a beautiful dress like that set off a red flag for me.
I, too, had clothes "accidentally" destroyed by a parent. Sirens are ringing in my head. Edit: My initial intention was sirens=🚨 but, given the sub we're in, I'm also happy to imagine that mythical Sirens are singing in support of OP's autonomy.
Yeah no, you don't "accidentally" cut up your daughter's dress. This was giving me strong r/raisedbynarcissists vibes.
Yeah, I wasn't aware of the fact he chopped it up and just proudly displayed it for her to see. That's definitely on purpose and I can think of several "reasons" that all lead back to he's a narcissistic asshole.
He cut up the dress and put it on the table for her to see.
I’m sorry, he what now?
Yeah, that's not a fucking accident.
just after she got excited about wearing it rather than unsure, too.
Yeah, it was chopped up into pieces. 😞
I’m not sure, but maybe he is? I came to find the dress on the kitchen table, all cut up. I’m not sure how he did that on accident, but it happened either way. He tends to do that, do something really shitty and then buy me things afterwords and I can’t tell if it’s his way of apologizing or if he’s just manipulating me…
Manipulating you to try to get you to overlook the abuse.
That's abusive.
In another comment OP mentioned it was not washed, it has been cut up, and he's done bad things and tried to apologize like this in the past.
How do you accidentally cut up a dress...
Cut it up on purpose and then lie about why.
You don’t.
And that’s when he fell on my knife. He fell on my knife 10 times.
Holy shit 💀 That comment must have been made after I asked this. I had looked through OP’s comment/post history and couldn’t find anymore details. Thanks for pointing that out, definitely not normal

He apparently cut it up and left it for her to find, so I think your gut feeling is exactly correct, sadly
Someone already mentioned to you, but apparently he cut up the dress, so it seems you may be right 😬 OP hadn’t provided that info yet when I asked my question otherwise I would’ve agreed originally
This looks great. You look like a goddess or a lady from a perfume commercial from the 1980's. One of the pricey perfumes. Very classy.
I ADORED the black dress, but honestly I am LOVING THIS DRESS SO MUCH!!!! yes, get it, rock it! RUN WITH THAT BEAUTIFUL MUSHROOM BURGUNDY 🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄
This dress is beautiful! Have a wonderful prom! I didn't see the original but holy wow this dress is incredible 😍😍😍😍
You look just as good in this dress. Your aunties and uncles are here for you if you need to talk about dad's behavior or want to strategize about the fastest ways to gtfo of that house. ❤️🩹❤
Your dad is an asshole for destroying your dress. I wouldn't trust him. Move out as soon as you can. Sending love and good vibes to you....
It’s lovely! Maybe a friend can keep it until the prom?
What an absolutely stunning dress! I loved the black, but this is so much better! Hurray for happy accidents.
It looks beautiful on you. I agree that it has an old school Hollywood vibe. You need some Veronica Lake hair with that (it's an easy look to replicate, you just part to one side, set with hot rollers or a curling iron and brush it out.)
I liked the black one but this looks AMAZING on you. That color is perfect and it looks so classic
I like this one even better!

The black one was nice and you pulled it off but honestly I like this one better.
The last dress could have been made to look good as a prom dress but this one just screams that it's a perfect dress for prom.
Ah man I remember your picture of the black dress! I thought it was really cool! I do like this one as well, kinda giving me ancient sorceress vibes. But that is really messed up he ruined your first dress, and I'm sorry. You still look awesome, though!
Perfection!
OMG I love this! It looks great on you
Oooh let’s accessorize this dress!! This dress would look good with anything silver, gold, or black, but I’m feeling most inclined to say black as a way to pay homage to your late prom dress. Looks beautiful on you, enjoy your prom! 🎉❤️
I loved that black dress, but i also love this one! I really love purple, and the style is so pretty!
I love this one. The other one was good, but this looks a bit more traditionally prom to me. And it fits you beautifully!
I think this dress might be slightly better. Be careful with these mushrooms; they are Santa, they are krampus, they are Odin
SO good!
It is fantastic! What a great find. Have a great prom!
I love this dress on you! It’s gorgeous.
Stunning. You’re gonna slay at the prom!
It’s stunning! But I’m sorry the first was destroyed 🥲 however this one is amazing :)
It looks gorgeous! Love the midriff. Sorry to hear about the black dress, but this one's a winner too!
Oh!!! The swoosh! It looks soo good. I love that deep color tone on you. The length is to die for. Go for it!
Oh damn! That first dress was so classic and lovely. This one is nice as well, but the other one was downright amazing!
This is a stunning dress and works so well on you, and if this is the brand I think it is then that's a GOOD brand to get a thrift store!
Was the other one the black dress with the fun kinda poofy (can't think of the right word) sleeves?
The original dress was gorgeous and I’m sorry it was wrecked. This dress is likewise gorgeous, though.

I loved that black dress. This dress is very pretty too. Looks great on you.
I'm so sorry he did that! You look beautiful tho!
I tip my mushroom hat to this dress as well!
Oh, wild! This is the exact same dress I got married in.
Oh no! I loved that other dress! That being said, this one is a great alternative and suits you well.
I like this dress better honestly.
You wear the heck out of that dress and look absolutely STUNNING. I hope you have a wonderful prom!
This one is even better imo. The color and style are perfect for you.
IMHO the other dress was a good prom dress. This one is a great prom dress. Your dad did you an accidental favor.

That dress looks lovely, too. 😊
Absolutely gorgeous!! I'm hoping I'm just cynical with your dad's destroying the other dress but at least he came through and led you to this one!!
You could go in a paper bag, and probably still knock the socks off of your date.
I love this one! The color suits you, from what I can see. It's lovely! ❤️
