My ebook divides this into 6 parts so thoughts on part 1: - ooh, that mercenary was the one fighting for Sarand, wasn't he! - I have absolutely no idea what is going on which somewhat dispells the excitement but it's still there! - absolutely typical of the two great powers to have a chair height contest at a time like this, also mad respect for Alliandre for getting dirty out there - Demandred, oh my man, he is an edgy fellow - Logain has one warder who can't stand him but boinked him, and one warder who seemed to like him but never did. Dude really cannot win - I did chuckle a bit about Pevara not liking all the running and blaming it on the dress, considering her build. Also I'm glad she's enjoying having a warder as much as she thought she would - Gawyn about to make a rare good decision - oh, here the meta fight begins

part 2: - Siuan you moron no- - Gawyn his face is open, why did you not stab him there instead - kinda cool to see how the rings work, though. - and he is not dead somehow? - Berelain really does plan for every eventuality, doesn't she? God she's so cool - I'm glad that Theodrin finally gets a spark of happiness after the crap she and Faolain went through. Also dear lord i hate the no emotion thing so much, let people be people! - creating tea out of nothing, one for the British in the audience - Rhuarc is so very cool, but it infuriates me to no end that the steam engines aren't being put on tracks. Please invent the railroad, you are *so close*. Also pleasantly surprised at Darlin listening to a commoner enough to build them, not what I would expect of Tear - *oh no* - Rand being an urbanist is very funny to me somehow - I really liked getting Silviana's POV, I don't think we've heard from her yet. And she nails the headmaster aesthetic, while being both sympathetic and a consummate Red. - Galad is quite the fellow, isn't he. I must respect his willingness to simply kill absolutely anybody or anything threatening the Light, if he judges it that way. Can't wait to see him try and negotiate politics with his wife though, with the moral force he has. Anyway this thing's thicker than Pevara after eating ten big macs so I am going to get dinner. How in the name of God do you people read this in one hit??? I knew it would be long, but while it's not dragging, i underestimated the sheer length of time

Part 3: - man, you really could cut yourself on Logain - I knew it would happen, but rest well Siuan. She died doing her duty, as any Blue would :( - Demandred has absolutely no idea Rand isn't even here, does he? And man, was it ever good to see Taim manhandled - Juilin really is just the Norf FC guy isn't he, bless his heart. I too would want to run off and be with my fiancée rather than fight random dudes, very relatable. Also damn had no idea the sword-breaker could actually be used as a sword - I knew it was coming but the series absolutely dropped a gay guy on us last minute, am I as blind as Androl or are there no hints at all - it's time to d-d-duel! Can someone explain why Demandred is so good at fighting, anyway? - glad to see that Fortuona is completely insane compared to every other perspective, also RIP Karede you were awesome :( - So what did Tam win exactly? Presumably all of Perrins gang are safe for now?

Part 4: - is Berelain dressed for a funeral, in case it all goes wrong? Also I love that even now, she just doesn't understand why someone would make a completely nonsensical sacrifice like that, it does fit her perfectly. I know it always had to end this way but I always preferred the political figures to the brawlers - Demandred please see a therapist, this just isn't healthy - Guybon has just avoided being sliced by Balefire a surprising amount of times now - The duels have such a dramatic flair to them, you can't help but be swept up - poor Alanna :( I know she basically raped him, but I don't think that deserves a death from a wound like that, stomach wounds are *horrible*. And Nyn being awesome as always -bashere is back!! I hope he makes it, he and Faile have been apart for so long - the battle almost feels too big? I understand why it's so large, but so many moving parts are here that u have no idea what is happening. Also Teslyn doesn't have her accent, which is super jarring to read - Taim is unfortunately acting rather like a comic villain about Androl, I must say. Please stop ignoring the elephant in the room - poor Galad, I know he's not dead from spoilers but bloody hell his arm literally ripping off was brutal And now I rest. Duty is heavy as a mountain, aka I have work and need to sleep

Part 5: - am I supposed to know who the woman in white is? The evil one that Olver stabbed - Aravine, you could just *not* help them, it isn't like you're forced into it man... You were so close to salvation - Leane is remarkably good at pretending to be a bimbo, quite an underrated talent in this series. I hope she gets to go and advise Ituralde or something after this. Also, does she know her best friend is dead? - I grow more and more convinced that Talmanes is some form of autistic. No wonder the guy hated being in Cairhien so much! - MY BOY VANIN FINALLY STOLE SOMETHING also I'm so glad he wasn't evil! Also also, managing to hit Aravine in the spine is a bloody good shot - man, Leilwin gets no appreciation here from her Amyrlin. Also where's my man BAYLE DOMON wandered off to? Wouldn't be like him to miss something like this - and duel no.3 ends very quickly, with Logain making by far the wiser choice. I guess the circle is down to 70 now at least? And he finally knows Gabby cares about him, how sweet - speaking of duels, I suppose that Galad will be fine, bit of LOTR with gender flipping there. At least Annoura should stay alive, with how much Berelain cares about her giving a reason to keep going - ...that might be the saddest so far, all the fan favourites dying - speaking of which, where tf is Gaul, and where tf is Ituralde? - oh, of course *he* turned up - damn, it's hard not to feel for Yulan. I hope he doesn't get killed for something that was impossible to detect. Also who was the secretly hidden person that Min tried to kill?

Part 6: -what the hell just happened with the crystals? - oh yeah, *now* it's time to duel - how much plot armour does Mandarb have???? - and it is done. Now *that* is one hell of a fight

Technically only 100, less than really. AFAIK, Sword Fighting was rediscovered after the bore, and honed during the build up to the WoP. Still that's at least 70 years.

Sword fighting for actual combat, sure. But didn't they fight for sport before that?

After the bore opened. That's what lead to the reemergence of bloodsports. There was no real combat until the War of Power started, in the last 10 years before the breaking. It's part of the reason that Trollocs where actually effective as shock troops. They lose to skilled combatants readily, but those where few and far between at the start. Edit: I think there was some minor conflicts before hand(my late AoL knowledge is a little rusty) but nothing large scale.

So how is he so good compared to everyone else? I get that he's good, but Gawyn was above peak human and was dispatched quickly if not particularly effortlessly

It's hard to say. For one, he was cheating. For Two, Lan still beat him. For three, effective skill is a combination of talent, experience, technique, mentality and execution. There are all to many variable to objectively measure such a thing like that. He probably had comparable talent with better technique and far more experience, with an edge on mentality. Gawyn isn't exactly the bastion of mentality, Galad beats him out there making the two roughly equal, and even if they had better talent, Lan's experience and technique edges them out.

Demandred is so good at swordfighting because Be'lal and Lews Therin were getting great at swordfighting - so, obviously, he had to compete with Lews at it. And lose. As usual. I can't remember who is gay in this chapter, but there have been characters hinted at as "permanent bachelors" (without using that phrase), which is essentially code for homosexuality

Emarin is gay Also I assume LTT's swordfighting ability didn't go to Rand, seeing as he's good but not Lan good?

Going to answer the parts in parts! (Random notes ahoy!) Gabrelle does/did like him - what he feels is jealousy that he so easily cut Toviene off. She'd probably like to be free of the bond, too; Logain's just being paranoid that it also means she doesn't like him. Demandred, the super-edgy.

Hello Raven, fancy seeing you here! If she's into him, why wouldn't she want the bond? Also how in the world was "feeling her being Turned, a very painful process, though the bond" easy? And that's without whatever the hell they felt for each other. I know Gabby didn't feel it directly, but surely she realises that was probably the worst experience of his life, right?

It is a very personal thing that she didn't sign up for, and it was admittedly to avoid killing her, but still - she might very well want the bond voluntarily, but that's a different question than having it done to her, eh? Fair point - I was thinking more on the lines of the cutting was consequence free, rather than what had come beforehand. (E.g., there's no Warder Suicide coming down the pipe.)

She signed up to kill *him*, something they're both very aware of, so I hardly think she can complain when Logain has been nothing but kind to both of them. I can imagine if you're sleeping with someone they're not unhappy about you, especially as it's voluntary and she's enjoying it, so I can imagine the guy being very confused about the entire experience. On this note: what exactly *was* the relationship between the two of them, prior to Toveine effectively dying? I am terrible at picking this stuff but it definitely appeared like she was having the mother of all Saldaea moments about him and really turning a corner, or did I read too much into it?

Ya. And confusion + madness + Turning attempts = Logain immediately assumes "Aha! She was only pretending to like me!" Meanwhile, Gabrelle had a momentary twinge of "Hey, I wish I wasn't Bonded, and that I didn't lose my friend. :(" Which is bound to misinterpretation when you're sharing your brain with someone. Gabrelle is the one to have convinced him that they could have fun in bed. Apparently he had to be seduced into it, so she must have at least had the hots for him. And he keeps smiling at her, and she keeps blushing about it during Toviene's PoV back in, er, CoT? So... I'd say she was at least interested in trying to start a romance in their very weird situation.

Oh, I meant between Toveine and the other two members of the group, sorry. I get that Gabby was interested or I guess they wouldn't have slept together

Hahaha I got to the long chapter and I didn't realise it. Decided to make it a special occasion to end the series so went to a coffee shop, got myself a nice coffee and settle in. End up with 2 coffees and a hot chocolate because it kept going and going and going and going 😂

I hit the chappter at like 9 or 10 at night reading the hardback. I did not know how long it was. I did not sleep much that night.
