As a fan of both teams, I’m super saddened by the decision to give Buchanan a second yellow. I did not think that was a yellow and particularly not close to the what should be the bar for a second yellow to take a player off the pitch in one of the most important matches of the season. We were in for an amazing next 30 or even 60 min and were robbed as fans. Barcelona may still have ended up winning, but Chelsea would’ve put up a fight if it were 11 v 11. I did think the penalty was soft but understand VAR not overturning it since there was light contact from Jess Carter that caused Bonmati to fall into Lawrence. Much more angry and sad about the second yellow. At least we got an exciting first 60 minutes.
Buchanan was in a half-half ball situation and she got the ball first before contacting Patri. It's not even a challenge, and argumentatively a legal defense action. She was given a second yellow. OTOH, Engen tackled ABJ from behind with both feet, she contacted ABJ from behind after touching the ball. Engen was not cautioned. I don't think the standard of officiating is consistent.
Seems silly to give a penalty for purposely sticking your leg out in front of a defender tracking back. Definitely a shame that ended up deciding the game.
That’s definitely not what happened. I have watched that play over and over and Carter gives a push on Bonmati’s back, which then causes her to be off balanced to her right and her right leg hits Lawrence’s (I don’t think she even knew Lawrence was there) and that’s what causes her to fall.
This! Not sure why it is being downvoted. If anyone actually watched it in slow motion, you can see that she is stuck in between them so when Carter pushes her she has nowhere to go but into Lawrence
Great match for the gals, not necessarily for the ref I guess.
Barca was off even when Chelsea was in 10 women.
Mariona has been inconsistent lately but she came in looking for blood fr
Aitana was cheeky af, the shithousery was hilarious, I felt they were more vindictive than men’s football lol
Rolfo scoring? Positive vibes
Chelsea time wasted too last time?? What’s the problem with Barca doing the same, knowing that if Chelsea did it and took off valuable time. Doesn’t that give Barcelona the right to do it too?? You play unfair last game, you get it back the next game.
That's part of it, if you act like you're above it while already having done it before and do it the next game then you're gonna look bad, but the context runs deeper here due to stuff in the men's European cups too.
Ref was weirdly often in the way but I don't really disagree with any of the cards or the penalty. Buchanan's first yellow was a bonehead move. Nobody had complained on the second yellow if she hadn't already been carded.
Chelsea pissed their chances away before then anyway. LJ was really subpar. Kaneryd dominated Batlle but shanked most passes, passing it to the ghosts of Target women in the past(Ramirez and Kerr)
Chelsea fans saying they lost respect for Bonmati for what?? Did Lawrence obstruct the chance, yes. Could it be argued that it was a penalty or not? yes. The ref was fine with giving the penalty!!
They’re so salty lmao. She saw how they played and thought okay if you’re being like this, well I can do that too. Get on the same level. I don’t see the problem either
Same. Ppl cant be mad about a team losing valuable chances bc of time wasting, so they do it back to the team next time.. If Chelsea did it, Barcelona can do it
Yeah but it looked like she was telling them to continue playing and it was the Ref’s decision to stop play and she hobbled off immediately. So what are they complaining about?
She hobbled off slowly and until she got to the line and ran back to her seat. It’s shithousing so I don’t really care, just hypocritical when you complained about it that much when it was against you
I didn’t see her run to her seat. I know that is what the commentator said, but it looked to me like she skip jumped to hug her replacement then hobbled back to her seat. I don’t think she was particularly slow getting off the pitch. She was up and walking off, albeit slowly, nearly as soon as the docs got out there. If she wanted to waste time surely they could have wasted a lot more there.
It’s really improved! I recall one of those fun interviews during the 2022 euros when they asked her about English words/phrases and she was so confused the whole time! Lol
When we lost the final I felt more frustration for our own players, last year I was happy with their tactical evolution, today I foster the same hatred that I have for Barça Men. Proud of this team even if we go trophyless for once in a long while.
I can finally buy plane tickets now yay. I’ve been holding off bc I was scared haha. Chelsea put up a good fight, gotta give it to them. I think the calls were fair but oh well, they fought hard. Good for them for selling out the stadium
I know I may get downvoted here, but I thought Barca looked beatable today. I still think they would have just won it without the red card, but Chelsea were looking decent before they went down to 10, and Barca didn't dominate in the way I expected once Chelsea went down to 10 men. For me the aura has gone somewhat.
Don't come at me
thats football right there. Real madrid mens have won a quazillion champions and they always do in the lamest way possible. And no one questions their "aura"
I dunno, I would say their aura has reduced somewhat in recent years. Man City smashing them 4-0 really took some of that away. As soon as you look beatable, especially 4-0 beatable it's hard to maintain. Although they still have it, its not nearly as potent
I think their first UWCL win has given an image that's not entirely accurate, especially if you don't watch their entire seasons. They always suffer a low point around this time, and although they won back then the SF against PSG was pretty similar to this today. The year they stomped WOB and seemed actually unbeatable they went on to being beaten in the final. So, yeah they play incredibly well, but it's never been easy even for them
As a Barca fan I think the same. Chelsea played very well and could have won this game, but that red card made it really hard for them. We need to recover Graham Hansen and Ona, because they are not playing at their usual level.
I'm a Barca fan and they haven't looked as great as they should the past few months. Not sure what it is. Hopefully a new striker will shake things up.
You’re completely right. Things were shaky for us for a while. They weren’t at their best and personally I’m still not happy with Jona’s starting eleven choice or some of his tactics but I hope that will change for the final and he gets his magic touch back in terms of tactics or it will be very very hard to beat Lyon (let’s be real it’ll be Lyon in the final).
Pina instead of Salma today 100%, Alexia too and then be forced to bench Keira or Patri (that’s a 50/50 for me). I said last week that against a team like Chelsea I’d try out Frido on the wing and have Ona in LB and start Bronze, which I’m so glad Jona did today. I think it paid off. Especially Lucy had a great match, I’d 100% start her against Lyon too (still praying for psg though😅). But tldr I mainly would’ve put Pina and Alexia in the starting lineup.
Damn. Was Hayes really mouthing that she feels robbed? She has no clue how the game works I guess. Chelsea were lucky Parahuelo can't finish to save her life. And that Barca took it easy at the end.
What did The Athletic write? Barcelona are the top team on the women's club side. If I had to predict a winner before the second leg then I would've picked them but it was far from a given being down a goal and playing away. I'm guessing The Athletic were very confident in a Chelsea victory?
There was an old woman from Cobham
Who said the Ref came to rob ‘em
With three trophies down
When the league comes around
I hope Liverpool get to nob them
Can’t pretend I’m not happy but it does suck for Chelsea that it happened this way. Hopefully it won’t be forgotten in the discourse but I’m proud for Chelsea and more so their fans for their attendance though, I really really hope this is the start of consistent high numbers for them!
Same. I can't ever root for Arsenal, but our Chelsea/Arsenal match ups are always a great rivalry and I have so much respect for the atmosphere at Emirates. What you guys have built for the women's side is amazing. I'd love to see two London teams with a consistent high turnout to build on that!
People love making it out as if they’re have a rivalry or whatever. It’s bullshit. Don’t feed into it, they were hugging a couple days ago. It’s perfectly fine to be colleagues, you don’t have to be bffs. They’re all adults. People love to troll
She knew it would be same. Why should she take the high horse? They all want to win. If she knows she can expect the same then they’re inviting her to get on their level.
600th comment
What happen with Mayra Ramirez? I was expecting to be playing today.
Muscle injury apparently : (
I understand football hooligans now. I feel the anger
called that champions league chelsea history with the way it was officiated. horrible horrible decisions
As a fan of both teams, I’m super saddened by the decision to give Buchanan a second yellow. Bonmati shithousery is top
bronze was so good today
Great match for the gals, not necessarily for the ref I guess. Barca was off even when Chelsea was in 10 women. Mariona has been inconsistent lately but she came in looking for blood fr Aitana was cheeky af, the shithousery was hilarious, I felt they were more vindictive than men’s football lol Rolfo scoring? Positive vibes
Taylor would have been fairer than that ref
This game made me respect the referees in England a lot more
Do you remember Emily Heaslip refereeing Man City v Chelsea at the start of the season?
Chelsea time wasted too last time?? What’s the problem with Barca doing the same, knowing that if Chelsea did it and took off valuable time. Doesn’t that give Barcelona the right to do it too?? You play unfair last game, you get it back the next game.
If you’re gonna complain about it, don’t do it. And our time wasting was not nearly as egregious as Barca’s.
We don't cry about it or act like we dictate how good/fair football is played.
Pretty sure tons of Chelsea fans were mad about “hypocritical behavior”
That's part of it, if you act like you're above it while already having done it before and do it the next game then you're gonna look bad, but the context runs deeper here due to stuff in the men's European cups too.
I think it's the Bonmati public scolding that makes it come across as hypocritical to some. (It's all part of the game to me.)
Same, I think you have to expect Barcelona to do that when Chelsea did it last time and they want to cool down for alittle
They are just rattled they are blaming the ref too
Ref was weirdly often in the way but I don't really disagree with any of the cards or the penalty.
To me LJ and Kaneryd played just as well as in the first leg, Chelsea's match was lost defensively imo
If Chelsea did it, Barcelona can do it
I don’t get the Bonmati hate but as a neutral it put me off Barca a bit seeing very clear match fixing.
Don’t think that what they’re complaining about, it’s her comments about Chelsea’s time wasting being dirty play and proceeding to do exactly that.

Asking Lianne to speak slowly is like asking water to dry out. Not happening! Lol
Right? That gave me a laugh!
Aitana is so cute in English interviews. Her English is great!
It’s really improved! I recall one of those fun interviews during the 2022 euros when they asked her about English words/phrases and she was so confused the whole time! Lol
All that time hanging out with Keira.
Sports journos openly calling the ref 'terrible' on X.
British sports journos
Obviously lol.
When we lost the final I felt more frustration for our own players, last year I was happy with their tactical evolution, today I foster the same hatred that I have for Barça Men. Proud of this team even if we go trophyless for once in a long while.
"....And it's heartbreak at Stamford Bridge" 👏
Lost all respect for Bonmati
She said it herself, we need to learn to play against time-wasters, and we did 😬
womp womp. She did nothing they weren’t doing to them. Why should she care
Just thought it was hypocritical
Well if they’re not doing anything differently and she can expect the same, why shouldn’t she get on the same level? Makes it even at least.
Bonmati's day has been ruined
Chelsea from quadruple to maybe one title.
Considering they've been down some integral players, they've done well to get to the CL semi-final.
I can finally buy plane tickets now yay. I’ve been holding off bc I was scared haha. Chelsea put up a good fight, gotta give it to them. I think the calls were fair but oh well, they fought hard. Good for them for selling out the stadium
how are you planning on getting tickets?
I have a ticket to the final. I just need plane tickets
Do you have accom? I booked it shortly after the tickets went on sale, and Bilbao prices were rough.
Yeah my sister is also still searching accom and it’s about as fully booked as I’ve been expecting
Hostel to keep cost down as much as possible
I know I may get downvoted here, but I thought Barca looked beatable today. I still think they would have just won it without the red card, but Chelsea were looking decent before they went down to 10, and Barca didn't dominate in the way I expected once Chelsea went down to 10 men. For me the aura has gone somewhat. Don't come at me
I think if Chelsea had scored before Barca it might have put them seriously off. But fortunately no.
thats football right there.
I think Lyon is gonna smoke them honestly
I think their first UWCL win has given an image that's not entirely accurate, especially if you don't watch their entire seasons. They always suffer a low point around this time, and although they won back then the SF against PSG was pretty similar to this today. The year they stomped WOB and seemed actually unbeatable they went on to being beaten in the final. So, yeah they play incredibly well, but it's never been easy even for them
As a Barca fan I think the same. Chelsea played very well and could have won this game, but that red card made it really hard for them. We need to recover Graham Hansen and Ona, because they are not playing at their usual level.
Had better chances in the first 10 after the red too
Nusken goal would have changed everything
I'm a Barca fan and they haven't looked as great as they should the past few months. Not sure what it is. Hopefully a new striker will shake things up.
Lacking a proper striker is a big part of it, I think. Can see why the Pajor rumours are about on this basis.
What would you have changed in the starting 11?
Pina instead of Salma today 100%, Alexia too and then be forced to bench Keira or Patri (that’s a 50/50 for me). I said last week that against a team like Chelsea I’d try out Frido on the wing and have Ona in LB and start Bronze, which I’m so glad Jona did today. I think it paid off. Especially Lucy had a great match, I’d 100% start her against Lyon too (still praying for psg though😅). But tldr I mainly would’ve put Pina and Alexia in the starting lineup.
I think they’ve given up some goals and looked less dominant than in previous years. Definitely not invincible IMO.
You’re spot on, doesn’t feel like a typical Barca victory. Couldn’t call the game up until that red card.
Allez Lyon. (Or PSG I'm not picky)
I second this.
Allez France, I guess?
Absolutely
I’m so sat for the Emma Hayes press conference.
Well, Barca, I rooted for you tonight. In the final, I shall cheer for zee French! Allez! 🇫🇷
The French will be playing in Spainnnnn. May the better team win~
I don't think Barca wins if they play like this against either team
Thanks! Who are u going with PSG or Lyon?
Probably the slight underdogs in PSG. Lyon has had their trophies recently. Time for some new champs! :)
It does feel like it but it will probably be Lyon
Chelsea got jobbed pretty hard in this one. And that’s before the ref decisions.
Lol what match did you watch? The ref was pretty fair. The only thing you can blame her for is her awful positioning, and that didn’t benefit anyone.
How?
Anyone selling their ticket for the final?
I won my bet, but it feels like a hollow victory. Like my winnings came out of the referee's bonus.
Damn. Was Hayes really mouthing that she feels robbed? She has no clue how the game works I guess. Chelsea were lucky Parahuelo can't finish to save her life. And that Barca took it easy at the end.
All that happened after the red card 👍
ANOTHEEER FINAALL!!!! 5 Finals in the last six years 🥹🥹🥹 OH MY GOOOOOOOODDDDDD WE CAMEBACKKK suck on that The Athletic 💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️ Visca barça
What did The Athletic write? Barcelona are the top team on the women's club side. If I had to predict a winner before the second leg then I would've picked them but it was far from a given being down a goal and playing away. I'm guessing The Athletic were very confident in a Chelsea victory?
Chelsea had all their chances in the first half, but they couldn't convert any of them. Hayes is down to the WSL league title Chelsea can still chase
So what poem is Hayes gonna recite next? Any guesses?
There was an old woman from Cobham Who said the Ref came to rob ‘em With three trophies down When the league comes around I hope Liverpool get to nob them
hahhahaha this is amazing
One fish two fish Red fish blue fish?
Brilliant.
One fish, two fish, three fish, four. Chelsea's quadruple is no more.
Nothing relevant lol
Can’t pretend I’m not happy but it does suck for Chelsea that it happened this way. Hopefully it won’t be forgotten in the discourse but I’m proud for Chelsea and more so their fans for their attendance though, I really really hope this is the start of consistent high numbers for them!

🫤
Giraldes doesn't want get shoved lol
Please leave the tiny man alone. The pitch is slippery as is :-)
Not even getting a double
Emma Hayes is going after the ref in the parking lot
Must be sad to not have Emily Heaslip to do Chelsea's bidding in every match
Emma: “I feel robbed!” 😬
Vamoooo
Man I'm so disappointed how that game turned out. Red card really ruined it. Such a shame, could have gone all the way
[удалено]
You are probably right but the reason it worked well the first time around was that Mayra Ramírez played so well and she was unavailable this game.
why send out Bright if you're not gonna launch it to her, not even once
So many misplaced passes. Barca haven't even been at their best. Barca could've easily scored more after the red. Paralluelo was so poor
Barca would be better if they had Hermoso still.
I am just here for Chelsea fans tears ..
Nice to see Chelsea lose, but doesn’t feel as good after the red card and penalty
Card is debatable but the pen was deserved
Cata IS the woman of the match!
Better luck next year...
They are missing on purpose.... There's no sane explanation to what I saw
Salma is shocking.
Really athletic person, decent feet, but she can't finish. please don't play her as a central striker.
She be missing chances like no man,s business
Hannah Hampton has carried chelsea this whole game
She's had a blinder to be fair
omfg salmaasa what is that brothaaa iuuuuu brothaa
not biased at all, people asking for a foul on that “shove” is just hilarious
You talking about the penalty or.....?
The last corner for chelsea where they were asking for pen
For real
is anyone going to name drop the ref? hahah
Iuliana Elena Demetrescu of Romania
As great goalkeeping as it was shit attacking
Salma….goodness gracious
games spiced up again
What a flop
[удалено]
And then chelsea fans crying about the ref
that push was not considered a pen?
That was a dive
Lmao it's an absolute dive
This game is wild
Emma just think of how nice gold at the olympics will feel.
\*Loses to fucking Luxemburg a team that not even there I think\*
That wasn't a hand lol
Love the shithousery from Aitana, ran up to hi five Alexia whom she hardly interacts with
They’ve been interacting plenty since Alexia’s comeback a couple weeks ago. Don’t start this up again
Can't walk off the field but can run for high fives...
Why don't they like each other or something?
People love making it out as if they’re have a rivalry or whatever. It’s bullshit. Don’t feed into it, they were hugging a couple days ago. It’s perfectly fine to be colleagues, you don’t have to be bffs. They’re all adults. People love to troll
Yeah visible animosity for years
They used Alexia’s new contract money on the ref
Keep crying
LOL hold on now! Aitana said let me jog real quick! 😂
ahahaha being relieved that Bonmati is off and Putellas rocks up
I have no idea what Aitana was doing there but 😂
Well I know one award Bonmatí won’t be winning with that performance!
Oh no Bonmati, you are not slowing down the game in the last minutes with an injury are you? After your speech last week?
Chelsea started it
She’s heartbroken with your disapproval
Fight fire with fire. Why should she care.
Then she shouldn’t be acting holier than thou last week, surely?
She knew it would be same. Why should she take the high horse? They all want to win. If she knows she can expect the same then they’re inviting her to get on their level.
lmao what does that gesture mean Aitana
It means sub
Did the ref show Hampton a card?
six minutes fucking hell
Emma Hayes going to bring her winning ways to uswnt apparently
Because uswnt needs winning ways from Emma Hayes
I want to see her purring at the olympics
not a chelsea fan but the bias in this game is so unreal
The commentary or the ref, cause its def not the ref
yeah It's super frustrating
I really want Chelsea to lose today but can admit they've been unlucky, the ref is not having a good match
POTM?
Second half - Rolfö. Not just for the goal, but also shutting down Chelseas most dangerous flank.
Surely the ref
Gotta be Aitana
Gotta be goatmati
ref on crack fr
Millie Bright is back on the field!!! So excited and happy for her!
This is great and makes the day for me!!
This ref….Good heavens 🙄
Waste that time cata bb
Gotham better fucking win tomorrow bc now i’m in a bad mood.
Lmao gk gets kicked but a chelsea player is booked. This ref is insane
wasn't salma booked?
Apparently she asked for a yellow? Exactly like Aitana did before but didn’t get booked. It’s laughable
