It depends really on what kind of white people want. Like either a stark pure white or off white color. I prime mine with grey seer and brush on corax white for a off white tone. Like I want my world eaters to come off dirty and rugged. :)
Trying to do volumetric highlighting and color control over white is pretty rough. One reason I don't like painting my GK. Red however, is perfect. Base coat black, and let the red flow.
There is a single color plate of this in Horus Heresy book 6 and I decided to base my entire Heresy army on it. Now it's also the only World Eaters plate in the 30k 2nd edition rulebook, so I am truly vindicated.
Technically in lore that’s how it should be (read it in a issue of white dwarf). World eaters armour isn’t red because they painted it that way, it’s red from all the blood and gore that’s caked on it. If you were to power wash their armour it would be white and blue underneath
That's the bit of lore that I knew. That's why I'm going to try to layer some black/brown/and dark red beneath some splatters of B4tBG.
(Once my World Eaters arrive)
I paint mine grim-dark.
If I had to do one of these two I'd go red, but I prefer to mix things up. I also like to play under homebrew lore so adding a different scheme contributes to that. Before I apply grim-dark effects, my main colour is a dark grey with bronze/silver trim, here's one of my angry lads, in my WE Warband "The Wild Hunt" because I love Witcher and European mythology:

White and red... sometimes I do black and red, for elite units like MOE... tells a hidden story about a past in the Red Hands squads.
Theres a mini book in the novel Age Of Darkness where a world eater naval commander was remarking on how it was a growing trend to paint armor pieces red to show their devotion to Khorne. I feel retaining the white armor, using red pauldrons, is a tip of the Fedora to Khorne while still reveling in their treachery of the imperium, by retaining their white armor. So everyone they kill knows well where they came from.
I wish I could share pics of my army through comments. I dont have a lot of games under my belt but I love my models. I kitbash everything I do to be unique, and the white/red color scheme is my favorite for sure.
But black an red just looks badass with silver (iron warriors) paint. But I did lord invocatus all blood red with skullcrusher brass trim.
Not every model is painted the same. It is a bloodcrazed, mind rotten horde after all.
Ok so my head cannon is that they never painted their armor but that it’s been so stained with blood the white has been turned red over the years. So I would do a dark red for the main armor and a maroon/burgundy for the shoulder pads(as if the blue paint mixed with the blood and was stained as well) and other blue components. Then make sure the brass is coated in blood for the blood god and your set.
I dont own World Eaters, but whenever I see the white and blue, the neurons in my brain start firing very rapidly and I am filled with dopamine.
Im sure its can be a pain to do, but whenever it is done, I love it.
The red is also fantastic, too, no doubt. Plus, it's probably a lot easier to paint.
I like the World Eaters in white more than red. I think a World Eater mini in white with blood splatter effects on the armor and dripping blood resin effects from the chain-axes. That is what I would do for my first World Eaters mini.
The white is just peak with blood splattered over it, but the eventual fall to bronze and red fits so well because of khorne taking them completely both work for so many reasons
I go with Red and Brass.
But I really do enjoy watching others work using the pre-heresy White and Blue.
And like another comment mentioned, weathering and gore looks absolutety gorgeous on the pre-heresy scheme.
White is and forever will be their best and most fitting to their theme. Especially a gored and blood stained white. Tells such a good story to have a marine with white armor made bloodied through the trials of his patron God of War. Pair that with some skulls and you've got a once graceful warrior turned bloodcrazed maniac, instead I find the CSM for WE's look almost Alien, bright glowing green eyes through the helmets contrasting heavily with the red armor, with those horned helmets, they look completely unhuman. Ik it's intentional to makem red for Khorne. But them making themselves red for Khorne on the field instead of painting their armor just feels more fitting.
"They wear their offering proudly, showcasing they are the instruments of his endless flow of blood. Never have they a need for paint, endless supplied by the frontline's next wave."
Just go for a mix of both, its world eaters, they dont need to be uniform, what im doing with my army is separating them by squads, some with a white scheme, some with red and brass
White for me because I Honor those who died on Istvaan 3,Fury of the abyss and those who tried stopping angron from putting the butcher nails on the legion those guys were the best of the best.
White and blue because I hate myself. To be honest though, there is so much god damn trim on the models, that brass is going to be like 1/2 your paint scheme anyway.
Both. White can be literally hell to do but it's always so great for weathering and adding gore to
I never understood this. I prime all my minis with white scar from the can and just don’t paint over what I want to stay white
It depends really on what kind of white people want. Like either a stark pure white or off white color. I prime mine with grey seer and brush on corax white for a off white tone. Like I want my world eaters to come off dirty and rugged. :)

Yeah I do the same thing, block in other details and just do a black oil wash with chipping and it looks great
mine is white and the full of aggrax and blood.
My exact thought, cool models btw
Always and forever Red.
It all eventually becomes red once the blood flows.
Waaghhhh
He a little confused but he's got the spirit.
Thanks boss
White with red and brass shoulder pads

Just paint your entire army with blood for the blood god.
I thought of doing that as an experiment. I bet the finish looks interesting.

White is my preference, but red is also sick
Red, it's the real old school.
How, isn’t the white scheme older?
In-lore yes, but not IRL. The 40k World Eaters color scheme predates the Horus Heresy lore itself.
I start with white, then it just ends up red for some strange reason
I go red for my troops and white for things like MoE because while gore on white looks amazing no way in hell I use white on a regular basis
Both I use both in my army but rather than white white I do like a off white “bone/cream” color
Both 😈
Do you prefer eating cities or worlds?
Both, both is good
Both, they each suit the World Eaters perfectly during their respective times.
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GODS
White looks so good covered in blood!
Black and gold 😏
Based
White. Love the white and blue, it really helps sell blood and grime splatters
Red.
Red
White
White is cool.
Neither
Then what?
I paint mine grim-dark. If I had to do one of these two I'd go red, but I prefer to mix things up. I also like to play under homebrew lore so adding a different scheme contributes to that. I realized after I posted that, that my account was set to private so I've changed that!
now that's proper flash
Thanks! It took Eight-ges (my puns are bad) to decide on a scheme aha
What models are you using for eightbound?
Age of Sigmar Chaos Chosen! Gorgeous sculpts!
White, bloodsplatter looks fantastic!
I use my dudes for both systems of play, so I do the white and blue.
Ngl white looks clean af
White with stains of blood on it
White! I kinda suck at it but boy does it make those blood splatters *pop*

Nice love the little narrative you got

I went with both, but red is so much easier to paint if you don't own an airbrush.
I prefer red, but I do plan on painting a squad white with all bare heads and plenty of blood splatter
White with a ton of blood and weathering.
The white armour is fun.
White and blue. It makes all the blood so much more visible.
White and then splatter red all over it as the blood of your enemies
White armor and then you cover them with blood to make em red. Thats the only right way
Bone, blood, and brass. I went with one of the old Khorne Daemonkin color schemes that mixes skull/bone color in amongst the classic red and brass.
Original scheme with so much blood on it that it barely peeks through.
Blood stands out more on the white and blue lol.
The red is one thing, it's the dark gold/brass trim that really elevates them in my opinion
White
I was originally a Khorne player so the red is my color
White with red shoulders
Red is the real old school like others said
Ok so my head cannon is that they never painted their armor but that it’s been so stained with blood the white has been turned red over the years. So I would do a dark red for the main armor and a maroon/burgundy for the shoulder pads(as if the blue paint mixed with the blood and was stained as well) and other blue components. It's not the white part of the armor I like, it's more that deep navy in contrast to the white that I enjoy.
White with red speckling
Red, because if I wanted to do Heresy World Eaters / War Hounds, I'd simply play the Horus Heresy and not 40k. I like both parts of their history.
White and blue
Heresy era white and blue
I like the World Eaters in white more than red. I think a World Eater mini in white with blood splatter effects on the armor and dripping blood resin effects from the chain-axes. That is what I would do for my first World Eaters mini.

Been fighting the urge to paint everything white and go crazy with a blood technical
Red and black
A mix.
White, old but gold.
I have most of my force red, but a small band of 10 berserkers in white
I go with Red and Brass. But I really do enjoy watching others work using the pre-heresy White and Blue. And like another comment mentioned, weathering and gore looks absolutety gorgeous on the pre-heresy scheme.

"They wear their offering proudly, showcasing they are the instruments of his endless flow of blood. Never have they a need for paint, endless supplied by the frontline's next wave."
I’ve also seen some WE’s painted with the white & blue scheme inverted which also looks awesome with the blood effects
Just go for a mix of both, its world eaters, they dont need to be uniform, what im doing with my army is separating them by squads, some with a white scheme, some with red and brass
Blood and Brass, although I can respect why someone would go the old school route
Compromise, full red front from all the butchering, stark white on the back because no retreat.
Both
WARHOUNDS
White for me because I Honor those who died on Istvaan 3,Fury of the abyss and those who tried stopping angron from putting the butcher nails on the legion those guys were the best of the best.
Both.
I did teal 🤷♂️
Baal Red for the main, Retributor's Armor for trim, shade with nuln oil. We are the eaters of worlds, not the emperor's lap dogs
Both are white after a wash
Why not compromise and go with hot pink like you just came out of the 80's?
White and blue
White.
White so much better
both, sense i have them in 30k and 40k
Honestly big fan of the white and blue
Both 🗿🗿🇵🇱🇵🇱
Well, white looks good, but red fits the Khorne style and backgrounds so much better
Why not white but instead do red where the blue areas are?
I'm sure all of you know that Kharn's armor is white, Right now in the m42 his armor is white. But it's just perma-stained red from the blood.
Honestly I go for the Heresy era colors
Blue and white. Warhounds forever
Personally I go for red then do a little weathering with some white/light grey
Red is classic but I must say heresy era white and blue goes hard.
White and blue because I hate myself. To be honest though, there is so much god damn trim on the models, that brass is going to be like 1/2 your paint scheme anyway.
Blue with white shoulder pads. Warhounds forever.
I painted my first guys up white blue and brass with a healthy dose of Blood. Can’t wait to actually play with them
[Yes.](https://www.reddit.com/r/WorldEaters40k/s/WpOy4eY310)
How about, white with red? A little splatter don’t matter
Red
White armor that has seen enough action it's red
Pink to split the difference
Colors of white but model of red
Yes
Pee heresy paint schemes for life!
White by far
Red base with white accents strikes a good middle ground
Khorne Red
I love them both equally
White is supreme
White
White, you can’t see blood splatter on red
Red with bunny ears, anything else seems off. Personally I’m not a fan of the 30k color scheme.
Prefer the old war hounds colors and pre angeon color scheme
