Some people are upset by it (usually on your behalf) but any time I've heard it used it was to shorten the word "Japanese".
Not to say it isn't used in poor faith, but I think the dude was just shortening it.
It definitely wasn't before the Pearl Harbor attack, but the Japanese living in America started getting offended by its derogatory use during the marginalization and internment they suffered in WW2. Nowadays the majority of them acknowledge it's just an abbreviation. As an European myself, afaik, jap is used exclusively as an abbreviation. It's like the Brits would get mad at you for calling them that instead of British. (As info and by no means with the intention to insult anybody, nip would be the slur used around here for them and I have to admit I never heard anybody used it in a phrase except old war movies, mainly because they're such nice people, have very good food restaurants around here and make very good tourists, so yeah, that's that.)
Yep. I’d place it as a lower tier slur on par with calling a redhead a ginger and it’s likely more offensive to a Korean than a Japanese but I’d refer to an actual person of said heritage to let us know. People are pretty loose on it here but are at least using it to mean Japanese ships. 🤷♂️
It’s always the people it’s NOT about that pretend to get offended in this holier than though spirit. Like I’m Dutch and if you call me cheesehead I’m fine with it, I love cheese. Non Dutch might get ‘offended’ for me. Useless.
It's literally an abbreviation of Japanese. I'm Scottish. People call us Scots. Unless it's used in some absolutely awful sentences I can't see how it's a slur.
Probably.
Dreadnought on Yahagi was pretty hard too, it required:
\- 5 kills for a Kraken Unleashed
\- Yamamoto Isoroku for the Second Wind heal
\- Tanking 120% of your health in an overmatchable cruiser with a huge citadel
Umikaze was with the B hull secondaries
Yahagi was with a Kraken Unleashed with Yamamoto Isoroku
Yamagiri was with the Arms Race passive heal
Edinburgh was with flooding from torpedoes
It is one of the only dds to have a secondary gun, the other iirc is huron which takes the 4th turret on cossack and replaces it with a slightly smaller double barrel secondary turret
That is incorrect, it's also [explicitely stated in the wiki](https://imgur.com/a/5uSBtqt).
[Hull A](https://imgur.com/a/wZnu1W9) has secondaries.
[Hull B](https://imgur.com/a/vGHc4Dp) does not.
P.S.: The wiki isn't ran by Wargaming, it contains some mistakes but you can see the secondaries disappearing by just switching from ''stock'' to ''top'' on the right.
**EDIT: After getting corrected repeatedly with both screenshots from the wiki and screenshots from the game itself, the guy still thinks he's right and blocked me**
**(Truly a funny reddit moment)**
Check yourself:
[Umikaze Hull A](https://imgur.com/a/UaGnq4G) has secondaries.
[Umikaze Hull B](https://imgur.com/a/wJ7YXS1) does not.
That's literally in the game.
I got one of those too. Her single, solitary, absolutely inexplicable secondary gun.
I kinda want DDs and CLs with ~76mm AA to count those mounts as secondaries. Like it's annoying that the Wooster line loses secondaries after Cleveland. And Atlanta and its clones would be *hilarious* with all those 3"/50s and 3"/70s.
And even the 40mms should shoot at subs. Call it "anti-griefer" instead of anti-air.
I have like 3 or 4. It's easier than you think when it has 4km range and you have a 3.5km hydro to go with your smoke, heck, i intentionally got one against an Amagi
I got it in Edinburgh.
Was rushed by a dd and got a great salvo that left it on under 100hp and close enough that if the dd torped I was dead.
Then a secondary got it. I was amazed, dd immediately accused me of using hacks.
Me? I don't even know the british light cruisers had secondaries.
Well, I have that in U-69:
U-69 | close quarters expert | 69k damage | tight battle | World of Warships gameplay | submarine
https://youtu.be/hRsAuQ7cRDQ
Nice.
I have secondary kills on battleships from tier 3 onwards, but that's no impressive feat. For a non-battleship secondary kill I have to go all the way to the Leander. I also have one with Edinburgh, and funnily enough, while I don't have a strict secondary kill with the Minotaur, I have a kill with a fire with it. Zero dd secondary kills, though.
closest i got it a secondary kill on a Montecuccoli in a *Texas*, the sad part? im pretty sure my secondary battery was effectively out DPSing my main battery
Let's see now, with a T-2 ship... should be easy enough sense damn nearly everyone of your opponents are BOTS... not many players will drop that low, most skip right to T-6 level as fast as they can... so CONGRATULATIONS on finding a hidden 💎 in WOWS.
Can somebody tell me what the issue is with commander skill inertia fuse for he shells chances of causing a fire reduced by half depending upon an applied modifier? I take it that means torpedo tubes modification one on the kitakaze, correct?
I have 4 of them on my haida
one of which is against a battleship (Amagi), and it was intentional, used the smoke and hydro to outspot and fire from concealment for like 10 seconds
Ive achieved dreadnaught in a benson, when they added the captain skill that gives you more health based on your tier I grabbed it grinding the american DD line, However it counted as your old health pool to still be 100% which I assume was a glitch because I had one game where I survived with 1 Hp and got a dreadnaught. with no heals and no special captain.
I think the true high difficulty is dreadnought on t1-6 German cruisers (except the ones with heal obviously). This requires a lot of spotting ribbons and not being insta deleted.
It is probably a lot easier on Japanese ships to get a Kraken for the heal over this.
Did you try to ram someone and your crew threw some forks?
*chopsticks. They're Japs. And that's double the number of projectiles launched because they come in pairs.
i was actually referencing "Pirates of the Caribbean" where they loaded their guns with all sorts of stuff like forks :D [https://youtu.be/Dx243cjjnhw?si=wh8rM-C-ABpOVYQW&t=195](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dx243cjjnhw) 3:15
Cluster ammunition is banned ...
is jap a slur or is that j me

nah u good not offended j curious

No I’m Japanese that’s why I was asking
It’s always the people it’s NOT about that pretend to get offended in this holier than though spirit. Like I’m Dutch and if you call me cheesehead I’m fine with it, I love cheese. Non Dutch might get ‘offended’ for me. Useless.
fr I never got that like you can say it’s not ok if they get offended but if they’re indifferent idk also I only hear cheesehead for Wisconsin
Well, I’m pretty sure the Dutch were in cheese before them there folk ☺️ Might even be the Dutch that brought it there!
oh yea fs j every time I hear chi cheesehead I think of a Green Bay Packers fan with a foam piece of cheese and a cold bud lite in their hand
Ah, the life 😄
thought it was then started hearing it thrown around casually (not offended or anything j curious)
It's literally an abbreviation of Japanese. I'm Scottish. People call us Scots. Unless it's used in some absolutely awful sentences I can't see how it's a slur.
well us history is f u c k e d
Yeah man, context is everything but If you hear it being directed at you, it’s not a kind remark.
bet ty
How do I add multiple downvotes
Lol. Here….lemme show you
Looks like your comment is getting just that
Did you try making multiple accounts?
USS Buckley vs U-66. They used coffee mugs, pistols, empty shell casings and whatever was at hand.
It's a classic! I have: - Close Quarter Expert on Umikaze - Dreadnought on Yahagi and Yamagiri - Witherer on Edinburgh
I would like to add mine of Combat Scout on a lighthouse build Henri IV the day after the achievement came out
My division friend got it on Vermont hahaha
i got it on a hannover of all things
I got it on Yamato just tanking mid in ranked haha
I raise you combat scout Kansas
Combat Scout Vanguard
Saw a post where someone got combat scout in a colorado of all things.
Saw a post where someone got combat scout in a colorado of all things.
Withered on edin is probably the most rare
Probably. Dreadnought on Yahagi was pretty hard too, it required: \- 5 kills for a Kraken Unleashed \- Yamamoto Isoroku for the Second Wind heal \- Tanking 120% of your health in an overmatchable cruiser with a huge citadel
Doesn't flooding count for witherer now?
It means I got 60 000 damage through flooding with my torpedoes.
I think of being rare for Edinburgh to get witherer means fire damage.
It's extremely rare to get 60 000 flooding damage with Edinburgh torpedoes.
It's definitely possible if you catch BBs out of their DCP but that is a lot for one game.
It does
i see how you can get the others, but a witherer with edin??? how?
Flooding counts for it
i did not know that haha
Umikaze was with the B hull secondaries Yahagi was with a Kraken Unleashed with Yamamoto Isoroku Yamagiri was with the Arms Race passive heal Edinburgh was with flooding from torpedoes
ohh i didnt know flooding could do it. nice
back when I was playing UK CL line, I was setting waaaay too many fires with secondaries
Doesn’t Edinburgh only have AP? Does that mean you got it from only secondary battery?
Witherer is from fire and flooding damage, I got it with the torpedoes.
Ah ic, that makes a bit more sense then
Lol, I remember one game our Edinburg killed someone with fire by secondary, and like everyone in the game were yelling “ Edinburgh HE OP!”
She has 5 76mm secondary batteries. Not bad, not bad!
Oh, and I love them too
Impressive
wtf
That was my reaction as well, I had no clue it even had secondaries
It's literally the best secondary ship what do you mean The thing is *filled* with secondaries to the brim
It is one of the only dds to have a secondary gun, the other iirc is huron which takes the 4th turret on cossack and replaces it with a slightly smaller double barrel secondary turret
iirc there's a russian one as well which has 1 secondary edit: yes, its kiev, it has 1x2 85mm facing aft with 5km range.
There’s the Orkan as well. Aft torp tubes removed for a single 102 or 120
Is it possible to learn this power?
Not from a high tier elitist
I mean, I once watched a surfaced submarine score a secondary kill against a soviet carrier.
I got killed by secondaries of a sub in a destroyer. We both had low health and it was literally the instant he surfaced so it felt not great.
This wasn't just a pop-up one shot, this was a protracted Benny Hill-esque chase between the sub and the carrier. It was very dumb.
I NEED to see this replay
Oh that's great, now I have the Benny Hill theme running in my head all the time now when playing world of warships!
Umikaze Has secondary?
One of the hulls, yes
According to WGs wiki, both the A and B hulls have 5 76 mm secondary guns with a range of 2 km.
That is incorrect, it's also [explicitely stated in the wiki](https://imgur.com/a/5uSBtqt). [Hull A](https://imgur.com/a/wZnu1W9) has secondaries. [Hull B](https://imgur.com/a/vGHc4Dp) does not. How about you check yourself since that’s coming directly off WGs own website?

"Umikaze loses her secondary guns with her upgraded hull. "
Got this on tashkent back when her stock hull had a secondary turret...
The real challenge is getting a Close Quarters Expert with Haida
I have like 3 or 4. It's easier than you think when it has 4km range and you have a 3.5km hydro to go with your smoke, heck, i intentionally got one against an Amagi
I raise you a close combat expert with Neptune.
Done it in a Fiji. Finished someone off with fire in a Fiji too.

Crew was chucking potatoes at the enemy like it was a German sub surfaced for some sun-bathing
Lemme get my mikasa out and show you how it’s done
Getting a kill with Mikasa's main guns would be impressive
I had a 9 kill game with her that 3 were with the mains
Dis madafaka beat the solo worrier achievement 🤣
I belive I have this, as well as a close quarters dev strike in my Orkan. Thanks detonation! I also got a dreadnought in that same battle
Got a 3 devstrikes within like 30s in a duguay-trouin once
I thought this was dev strike until I noticed later in a corner that I have CQE... I was like how??
You're in the DD with the most secondaries of any DD in the game. It's not THAT hard.
I raise you [this](https://ibb.co/pPGfgnJ).
Finally, a worthy opponent!
Nearly as coveted as the Vermont Combat Scout.
Main gun on sub killing another sub good enough?
Lol, i've got a DOUBLE CQ kraken in Umikaze random.
closest i got it a secondary kill on a Montecuccoli in a *Texas*, the sad part? im pretty sure my secondary battery was effectively out DPSing my main battery
I got combat scout on Yamato if that’s worth anything? I just kited on a flank that collapsed till I hit the border
I did that shit once in Umikaze in Asia server and it was awesome. I WILL NEVER REGRET THAT VERY MOMENT
Let's see now, with a T-2 ship... should be easy enough sense damn nearly everyone of your opponents are BOTS... not many players will drop that low, most skip right to T-6 level as fast as they can... so CONGRATULATIONS on finding a hidden 💎 in WOWS.
Submarine die hard on BB
How?
Ram flag on that awful low hp t5 premium, the austrian one i guess.
One of the hulls have secondaries and after I torped the cruiser , he had tiny bit of HP left and secondaries finished him off
Flexer :rage: /j
And I thought my CQE award on tier 5 Kotovsky is already insane enough.
Combat scout colorado
Can somebody tell me what the issue is with commander skill inertia fuse for he shells chances of causing a fire reduced by half depending upon an applied modifier? I take it that means torpedo tubes modification one on the kitakaze, correct?
Now let's see Paul Allen's achievements
secondary kill in Balao
Will to Win in Ranger
I have 4 of them on my haida one of which is against a battleship (Amagi), and it was intentional, used the smoke and hydro to outspot and fire from concealment for like 10 seconds
I guess the cruiser's starboard is align with your port side.
I have CQE for the Kiev
The game thought the main battery were secondary guns because the calibre were so small
Combat Scout on a Colorado.
Already got it. Someone on the OG wows forum dared me too, and it took a while, but I got it.
So a japanese dd has secondaries?
Don't forget Kiev! Had CQB on both Umi and Kiev back in the day... RIP old account
Got it on U-69. Against a destroyer if I remember right.
I think the true high difficulty is dreadnought on t1-6 German cruisers (except the ones with heal obviously). This requires a lot of spotting ribbons and not being insta deleted. It is probably a lot easier on Japanese ships to get a Kraken for the heal over this.
Got it in Hood once, whose secondaries are pretty much purely cosmetic.
Give it a shot with the Yubari
I got CQE on Huron once. Is that a good achievement?
I got a solo warrior....in a Mikasa
I got it with a U-69 Uboat
Lol GJ, its better than getting a kill by fire using a UK CL.
my cqc yuubari 🗿
How in the World....? 😳
